Gemini - why no more 1/400 Convair 580s?
 

Gemini has a lovely 1/400 turbo-prop Convair 580 mould, so why has it only been used twice, when there are so many requests for them? The Allegheny Airlines model is lovely, but then someone made a disasterous decision not to make another in an airline scheme, but do an FAA machine - why??

Where are the Convair 580s of North Central, Republic, American Eagle, Frontier, Aspen, DHL, RCAF etc? So many to do that would sell!!

The FAA one was actually first! Gemini only care if they can make 2,000 units and they are partially paid for by an airline.

It is a nice mould except for the nosegear leg which is horrible.

Since Aeroclassics has not made a CV-540/ 580 mould, we must rely upon Gemini. Maybe they could correct the nosegear leg.

I agree, Gemini needs to use this mould, sooner rather than later! North Central, Frontier, Republic, Air Ontario, Great Lakes.

Well that's not entirely true, as they also have a 1/200 scale Convair 580 and have done that in more liveries including Frontier Airlines. If they didn't care as you say, then why make new moulds of the Convair 580 in both 1/200 and 1/400 scales, but hardly use them, yet both would sell well surely?:confused:

Gemini appear to make more collector focused models in 1:200 scale presumably because corporates don't order such large scale models and older collectors and ex-employees of the airlines (who are more classics friendly) often collect the larger scale. I'm just guessing.

As to why they made the moulds in 1:400 - who knows? Look at Herpa

I have the 1/200 Convair 580 in North Central and Frontier liveries so these HAVE been made.

Considering this was a post for the 1/400 scale part of the forum, they indeed HAVE NOT been made.

I agree with the OP, there are so many that would sell. American Eagle, would be my personal #1 ‘most wanted’

Indeed, they have NOT been made in 1:400. Some of us have neither the money nor the room, nor the inclination for big 1:200! 1:400 is needed, please.
