Default 1/400 raw vehicles GSE cast

So always looking for more GSE led me to try these raw metal cast vehicles. I bought 2 of most vehicles they had but now I see they just released better cars.
1:400 car set

So my pics are their older hand cast? vehicles. They had a waxy coating so after I cleaned them up with 600 grit sandpaper I bathed them in bathroom cleaner for a light acid etch. My airbrushed Tamiya paints stuck with no primer. FYI, matte paints are bad, the pens I used bled into the paint. I suggest gloss paints which are easy to wipe off pen inks. These castings are not very good, but the new cars above might be worth a try.

After painting I used multiliner pens and Sharpies to color the windows and wheels.
I have 2 magnifying headsets, the cheap black ones on the right are best since they are low magnification, but the built in leds are crap. Mine also had broken inner lens mounts but I didn't need the second lens anyway. The headband is uncomfortable so I added white baby corner protector foam with double sided tape. Avoid the white glasses on the left, the magnifying lenses are way too powerful and worthless. The USB led lamp and powerbank give much needed light for the detail work with the pens. All these tools are on ebay for cheap.

The vehicles look to scale, better than the oversized Gemini set.
I got the people too but they are more like humanoid blobs not worth photographing.

Great photos of the 1/400 scale models that you have painted. There are several options available for modellers now-a-days with many options including shapeways

Also for white metal cars, trucks and Airport GSE in white metal there is Ornamental Castings and they sell in bulk and also have water slide transfers available in 1/400:

Ornamental Castings - Home

Another option is to dabble with T-guage which is a model railway scale of 1:450 and they make houses, people, cars, bikes etc in Ready To Run form and look brilliant on a model Airport. I have used a train and created a railway station on my Model Airport.

T Gauge.

Other options include cars, people, street scapes by

Finally for people there is a fine selection in 1/400 and 1/350 by Eduard. they have Pre-painted Photo-Etched figures. Average height of adult figures is 4mm approx. (Scales out at 160cm average height). Available on ebay and also through their website

If other members have any info, please feel free to share it, I'm always interested to see what is available for 1/400 to compliment my Airport.

Cheers Lou

Thanks for the info. I never tried the Ornamental Castings because they make you commit to ~$10 with multi packs and the GSE tractors look too soft/comical. If they priced things individually like 4D Models does I would be more willing to try them, but I don't need 8 Land Rovers at one time.

I haven't bothered with the flat Eduards because cutting out and sanding the edges of photoetched parts is annoying and I would prefer a 3D human; but maybe later. I'm liking the T gauge painted figures much more. Do you have any pics of those in a 1/400 airplane diorama? I've only seen the now extinct Herpas online.

The plastic T-gauge cars look better than the cast metal 4Ds I posted above. The casting process leaves a lot of tiny air pockets which I didn't like with the 4Ds.

I will try Shapeways more later; the shipping overseas and customs tax keeps me from using them.
