Default AeroClassics you must be joking with April announcements

Qantas A330-200 VH-EBB Cityflyer livery
Qantas A330-200 VH-EBC old livery
Qantas A330-200 VH-EBV One World livery
Qantas A330-300 VH-QPA 80th Anniversary livery
Qantas A330-300 VH-QPG Interim 2000 livery
Qantas A330-300 VH-QPH new livery
Qantas A330-300 VH-QPI Interim 90’s livery
Qantas A330-300 VH-QPJ Mardi Gras livery

If AeroClassics had announced the Qantas A330 models on April 1st I would have thought it was a joke.

What a disappointing month for Australian collectors with the release of the AeroClassics Qantas April announcements.

Over the past year or so AeroClassics have in most part ignored the Australian collector and in the early stages twelve months or so ago used the high Australian dollar as the excuse for not releasing Australian themed models.

Well today, Australian collectors are told they now the opportunity to purchase all the A330 Qantas have had in their fleet. Eight models in total.

Only one problem most Australian collectors already have these models in 1/400 from other manufacturers.

I have always thought that AeroClassics had the edge on its competitors and in the past have been very innovative but all that has changed with this new round of announcements.

Each of the NEW AeroClassic Qantas A330s has been produced before by other manufacturers and in some cases we already have two examples of the same model in 1/400. If you are a fleet builder, you may want to get a couple of the newly announced models.

It is such a pity that AeroClassics have not taken the opportunity to look at the Australian and New Zealand thread on this site to get some great ideas for models that have not been made by any 1/400 manufacturer.

Andrew, thanks for the opportunity to purchase a complete collection of Qantas A330s but I will pass on this offer as I already have examples of ALL these aircraft in 1/400 and duplicates do not interest me.

Should AeroClassics produce an AEROCLASSICS for the Australian market in the future I will defiantly consider it.

I don't often post here but I completely agree with your sentiments.

What's worse is that from the initial pictures, the typeface used for the four 2007 livery aircraft (A332s VH-EBC, VH-EBV (oneworld) and A333s VH-QPA (80th) and VH-QPG) is completely incorrect.

They've just made the 1990s typeface and made it slightly larger (the typeface in the actual aircraft is more italicised and 'rounded' compared to the model). I could tell even from the preview pictures in my emails - that's how far off it is!

And AK - who bangs on about how his competitors are inferior - wants us to pay $40 for this junk?

As far as I can tell the other four - the two 1990s aircraft (VH-EBB and VH-QPI) and the 2016 livery (VH-QPH and VH-QPJ (Mardi Gras)) are correct although I cannot tell if the 2016 aircraft have the '3D' shading on the tail logo.

Happy to be corrected if mistaken but like Phoenix and their colour / QC issues, I just can't buy Aeroclassics sight unseen anymore.

Who has the cash to buy all 8 models at once in any case?

And if you want to buy all 8 you must also be a Panic Buyer(tm) because some releases are made in very limited numbers.

Tough decision. Glad I don't have to make it.

Can't understand the logic of this release.
Surely buying 8 models in one month is pretty silly.
But then again we saw the Pan Am A300's years ago - they were available for ages afterwards.
And then again - sounds like these models are not accurate anyway so no big issue there - I am happy with my PHX and GJ versions.
Pass.

I wouldn't be so sure about these being available forever. The Qantas' are extremely low production runs of each, 100 pieces of each worldwide. Not to mention Qantas like Cathay models don't sell as well as they use to. This is the market reality nowadays.

This is 'AK logic'! An easy and cheap way to try and sell 8 different models by slightly changing the print set-up to try and make more profit, screwing up the font, and an Air Canada A330 fantasy model, as the real thing hasn't yet appeared in the new scheme!! Then there is the the rushed-in-to-production new livery Air Canada A321 with incorrect font titles last month. Also an Iran Air A330 released at the same time as Gemini Jet!

Give the Airbus moulds a rest please! Where are all the 'classic' moulds hiding that are unique to Aeroclassics that we have to be deluged by Airbuses that others have already made?

Adrian, unless you or one of the other armchair specialists are willing to put up the capital which is going to be lost if your suggestions are taken seriously, I suggest giving it a rest once and for all.

I guess the market will decide that outcome.
I have most of these in some shape or form so I'll be fine.

Much like KLM,I can't think of a Qantas color scheme I have not liked. I use to work on the B747-200's in the late 80's here in Vancouver. Thursday and Saturday nights I think it was? HNL stop back then.

The price of buying the new AirbusClassics is out of the ball park.

The models will sell in Australia for AUS$60 each from a local supplier so that is AUS$480 for the set plus postage around AUS$25.

At least as collectors we have to option not to buy but the poor retailer just keeps adding AirbusClassics to their inventory.

Exactly what I thought when I saw this month listing : "wow, glad I'm not Australian !".

As much as I can understand the economic logic behind the modern releases (well, for the retailer at least, as AFAIK Aeroclassics risk is almost nil, as retailers have to buy the whole lot each month), a bit of classics each month certainly wouldn't hurt. As much as I like the Fokker 28 return, where are the Boeing 377, Herald, Vanguard, and so on ? Even the DC-6 hasn't been much used lately, while at least two of them could easily be released each month.

Yeah I remember years ago asking AK for the Ansett F-27's in the red delta colours to be released but that never happened. That was years ago.
I gave up on the requesting process.
Did my own custom which looks great....taught me a few skills so now I don't have to ask.

So I can look at these models and say 'nope!'. Don't need them.

I'd recommend the original Aeroclassics QF A330-300's. These were really well done. Alongside the CX release also. If you have one of those then you've got the best release.

Let the Aussie and Airbus collectors enjoy this month. Good to see the corrected NEO mould out. Waffle says both the Qantas and Hawaiian are nearing sell-out already! May get the Iran, and the AC once an A330 is painted and we can verify it, . Otherwise, I'll be looking forward to seeing what we get next month.

You must check out some of the Qantas logos on the A330 range of models this month.

Just can't believe AeroClassics got it so wrong.

With a warehouse full of Qantas A330's Andrew is not likely to be making any more models for the Australian market.

Bet we see many rego changes on Qanats A330's over the coming months.
