Default American 787-8 US Flag

I have the American 787-8 GJAAL1460, just noticed on my copy that the US Flag ahead of the registration is not there, on the right side of the plane you can barely see it. I emailed Gemini and they said there is nothing wrong with the plane, I even included two photos.

This kind of thing happens sometimes. Years ago, the first time I ordered the 1:400 GJ USAir 767-200, the copy I got was completely missing USAir titles on one side of the fuselage.

It's an occasional factory printing error, I've had several over the years. An Alitalia DC-8 missing 'Alitalia' on one side, a Court Line Tristar missing the reg on one side...for example. It doesn't normally affect the whole batch and apparently gives your lane duck more collectable appeal.

Luckily there is a big flag on the vertical stabilizer on both sides:>)

If you can't manage to change the order I would suggest buying a decal or air bursh the missing flag with little skill.

When I received the plane the US Flags are present. All my planes are kept in the boxes away from sunlight, so when I was checking my plane, just took it out of the box a couple of days ago, I've noticed the flags were fading out. I have the same problems from all 3 United 787-8's that I have the US Flags are varies stages of fading, except for the 787-9 the US Flags are present.

Another QC problem with GJ. Is this model manufatured by JC Wings factory?

That's pretty crappy of Gemini to tell you there's nothing wrong with your model after sending them pics that clearly show the printing flaw. It's not a major issue, and I could probably live with it, but jeez, they should at least acknowledge the defect.

I am thinking maybe you should have included photos of the model with the flags, along with your model pics. That way their customer service response would not have been 'there's no problem with it' to you. More like, yes we are in agreement that your model is missing the flags and here are some instructions on how to replace the 'defective' model.

Have you gone back to them with another email with your photos along with other photos depicting the flags? Or can you go back to your retailer for an exchange? Like Mike777 mentioned it is not a major issue to him and probably others, but for other collectors like yourself it might be? T7

Thanks for replies, the issue is that the flag is fading and other graphics are not fading away, what is causing that.

Sorry to hear that the flag has faded away on your model. In that case, I don't know what Gemini could possibly do in that scenario to help you out. Your guess is as good as mine on why certain graphics are behaving that way on the model. Interesting that other DAC members who own the same model, have not yet experienced the fading? Maybe over time the flag will eventually disappear from their models as well. T7

This would be the fault of the JC Wings factory people. The models are printed step by step with pads basically that when fully done make up all the graphics on the livery. One side appears to have missed the flag pad completely and the other side was only done partially. To get a solid print they need to press it several times and I'm guessing that one was only padded once or twice.

Visit the store and you will understand this especially if you go on Saturday.

For me the odd missing reg or flag is a "one of a kind" collectible for me. I remember when I used to collect Herpa 1.500's I had the entire fleet of B.A. Landor colors, the B757 had upside down RR logo's on the engines and the B763 was missing the reg's.
