OH! The Frontier boomerang livery -- CHansen, you hit the nail on the head!! That would be most welcomed...I really dig that look now; although in the 1970's before the moved to the rainbow scheme I recall thinking how dated and trite it looked. Now I think it's classy, understated yet very professional. Huh.

Gee, based on all these selections, do you think there's a reason SMAC choose the 737 as their first model? They could do 2-3 a month for 20 years and never run out of ideas..!

RE: Royal Brunei,

Is it possible to print that kind of detail on a 1:400 -200 engine? That'd be a sight to behold.

AirTran Airways was a charter/budget airline based in Orlando, FL. It was set up and owned by the parent company of Mesaba Airlines (NW Airlink).

Northwest was unhappy with one of their regional airlines owning an airline that could possibly compete with Northwest ... so they spun AirTran into its own company.

AirTran was then purchased by ValuJet after their crash in the everglades ... and the company assumed the airTran name and came up with their current colorscheme

Exclamation Hybrids: Pro or Con?

This is an interesting issue... Hybrids are a tough one. Unless one of the SMA boys have a jones for a certain plane, I don't see it making much sense to bother with hybrid liveries. With the 500-600 unit release schedule they practise, almost any mainline livery will sell out before they hit the shelves. That being the case, there's no reason to spend MORE investment money on making a hybrid version. I could see a hybrid scheme selling maybe 150 units max, depending on the scheme itself... unless SMA wants to do it as a 100 unit tag-on to a particular 500 unit release and if the cost is worth it, there probably won't be many hybrids considered.

Don't get me wrong, there are hybrids I'd like to see too, and others I'd HATE to see... AirCal birds with American titles for instance. THAT is one hybrid that would probably sell out FAST, but to me it's a painful reminder of a past airline that I LOVED to fly being eaten by a bigger fish. On the other hand, leased aircraft do have SOME fascination... (ie: SMA doesn't have the mold, but I'd LOVE to have a PSA pink sunset 727-200 with the CO blackball tail.)

In the case of the odd-bird Singapore/AirFlorida, personally, I'd MUCH rather have a Singapore version OR an Air Florida version over the hybrid any day... Maybe 50 units would sell? Suggest it to Gordon and see if he ignores you or gets excited.

This is a good subject of discussion though...

folks ... as Dar stated ... hybrid models while cool to see are a tough sell.

My partners and I want to avoid making micro releases ... releases in very limited numbers ...

While I have nothing against wierd hybrid models ... you have to realize that the only way thay cna be profitable is if the color scheme is more or less the same as another airline and y'all would have to be willing to pay for a two-pack release ... a normal model and a wierd one.

I am not against trying this kind of mix out ... but the collecting community would have to stand beind their requests 100% ...

How about this scenario:
- have a hybrid list, the more the merrier
- vote/take pre-orders to find out demand/favorites
- have a minimum number produced based on pre-orders (+50)

This is just a thought. I'm sure that there is more to it (I not knowing the ins and outs) than just the few things I mentioned. Just throwing something out to discuss. Otherwise, one could start slapping decals on and creating their own, ala "customs".

I can see that (twin pack releases), but look at the PSA/Hawaiian MD-80 release..............gone in 60 seconds. Doesn't that speak volumes?

Thumbs up Re: Hybrids: Pro or Con? DAR this one!!!!

Thanks Craig! YES! THAT IS the one... Hmmm, that is actually a -100! If SMA has access to the upcoming Aeroclassics 727-100 mold, then this IS a possible release... But then, Gordon said nix.. so.

Too bad the guys over at Jet-X didn;t run this when they did the PSA's... on the other hand, they DID do a PSA Hawaiian Hybrid as Mikeytex points out. AND If anyone is likely to do a CO Blackball 727...

Oh BRIIIIIAAAAAN.....
