Default Re: AeroClassics New Releases for September 2016

Allow me to wear Adrian's hat for this discussion. I LOVE Aeroclassics and have hundreds of their models. Ordinarily, their colors can't be beat. But there have been some color issues recently. I feel compelled to point out a couple in this batch.

I'm a 40-something American and am interested especially in 70's-90's classics. Of this month's AC releases, the 90's A330-A340's are of interest. For me, the BMI A330, Sabena A340, Canada 3000 A330. Even though the 1950's are before my time, I was happy to see a North Central CV-340. I want a 580 in final blue-stripe Herman colors, but AC does 340/440. I'm just so happy to see someone do *any* North Central Convair in 1:400 that I want it.

I examined photos of the actual aircraft at Airliners.net, looking at several photos each to allow for varied light conditions. For the NC Convair, A.net had only one, washed-out and grainy, photo. So I turned to Google images and the NC history site Hermantheduck.org for more photos.

I'll tolerate color being slightly off, especially if it's on the side of being a little light, that generally looks fine. I also forgive minor notational errors or a stripe that stops a little soon. Some people were upset about the ATA 727 tail, which view seemed picayune to me. I understand that our makers may miss a detail here and there. I'm not one of the most critical people at our site.

The BMI A330 fuselage blue, unfortuantely, is *way* too dark. The BMI title color on the fuselage is completely incorrect--the actual blue is a metallic blue with a very different look, not a lighter powdery-blue. Sadly, I won't be getting this model. Gemini's BMI A330 got the colors right.

Sabena--the blue is much too dark and 'straight.' The actual color is somewhat lighter and richer. Usually AC is really good at getting richness in colors. I won't be getting this one, either.

Canada 3000--The colors look good. But the titles and maple leaf do not have the very visible block-shadowing of the actual aircraft. Dragon Wings has done this aircraft. Their A330 /A340 moulds were awful. But they got this very visible feature right. AC got the sweep of the cheatline up to the tail right, DW's is atrocious. So the AC Canada 3000 A330 is still acceptable, in my book, but that error is annoying.

North Central CV-340--looks good except for there is no number inside the red-lined white box ahead the titles, above the windows. Every photo I found of a Convair in this livery had numbers printed there. Hermantheduck.org indicates that the Convairs with this livery had the ship number in that space. That's a minor enough flaw, on a tiny model to begin with, that the model is still acceptable. But it only took a little research to find something that current model-printing technology easily can do.

I haven't checked the other September models. But I've seen enough color issues recently that I thought it would be good to check. I then checked the WOW Air A330, which I own, and found that its reddish purple is way too dark. I was not happy to find out after purchasing the BEA Trident that the bogeys had the wrong number of tires. That's a major error.

This is not a fun posting to write. Again, I LOVE Aeroclassics and own hundreds of their models. Nothing else even comes close for the vast majority of what they make. I remain a largely very happy customer. But the recent color issues require me to point them out. (I didn't look up any of the other models in the September releases and can't address them, they may well be fine.)

The BMI colour issues were pointed out when AC did the A319/20/21 releases. Yes the BMI logo should be a metallic finish, as per the Gemini A330. I suspect it was cheaper to reproduce it the way it was in a solid blue tone. This was discussed at length on here at the time and AK insisted nothing was wrong. I'll still get it for no other reason than the complete set will match. If only Gemini had done the narrow-bodies too...

Oh and still no sign of corrected wheel bogies Tridents at ARD as was hinted at in another thread.

PM and AC release the same Cathay Dragon and JuneYao with the same mould. Interesting.

Don't think it will ever be corrected. I gave up on my order already.

The Canada 3000's for sure, I worked on the A332 when they first came to YVR. I believe it was the first A332 with GE engines in North America.

AC seems to have several issues with undercarriage wheels at present, the wrong number on the Tridents and now the shoddy painting on those HS748's wheels. It all stems from when they changed to 'rolling gear'. If they had stuck to fixed undercarriage wheel moulds that don't roll, these issues would never have happened as the undercarriage wheels/legs were moulded as one unit.

Why interesting??? Those sleazy scumbags at PH copied the AC mould; not really interesting since they're capable of little to no independent thought or creativity.

I've got no respect for such dirtbags, or those who support them.

Due to reasons beyond the comprehension of AC or ARD, the shipment in question was returned to China. It will probably be sent out again shortly, with some heads to roll in the shipping company!!

Patience is a virtue in this case, cause getting angry solves nothing.

Happy with my 4 from the September releases. I assume the Juneyao, Spring and Cathay Dragon are delayed hence why no photos are up anywhere?

So did the September releases fail to ship to ARD as well ? Still nothing on the pre-order page of their site nearly two weeks after announcement...

Seems the shipment with the Tridents (July) is still floating back 'n forth between China and the UK due to gross incompetence of the shipping company.
August/September's shipment is due to arrive at ARD imminently!!
