Default SMAC Frontier and USAir 737s, Wow!!!

I just got the 2 new SMAC 737s and they look great! The most noticable thing is the nose section. It looks much more correct than Gemini. Great job, Andrew and Gordon! Keep up the good work. I hope to see a DC-9-30 and/or -50 with the same great detail!

I said this before...but will say it again...

If the 737Club had these 3 as the first models instead of 3 essentially unknown airlines, it would still exist today, and I wouldn't be out $40.

(Yes, I know we will be getting a "free" model soon, but $40 for a 737 is steep even at todays prices).

Just my opinion.

Do you think the silver paiting on SMA's 737 is quite different from GJ's real-metal? I prefer the finish on GJ's 737-200, e.g. CP Air. SMA uses "silver powder" to do the silver part of the aircraft. Or it's the real way US Air and Ryanair do their paiting?

thanks folks ... yes ... if we had had control over what was being released we wouldn't have had as much trouble with the original collector's club thing ...

as for the metal paint ... future stuff will be done using our real-metal-type-of-process or will be chrome ...

glad you like them though ... we gots more on the way for November and December ...

=)

More 737s, Gordon? If so, I hope to see Midway (red billboard) and AirTran (current colors).

Gordon, in the manufacturing business? What's the story behind SMAC? Can anyone shed some light on this?

I thought Gordo was just a Computer mannie working for Amazon who happened to collect model planes and set up a forum on the subject. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Confused some!

actually ... the only problem is sourcing artwork ... especially from "defunct" colorschemes and airlines ... be forwarned though ... we ain't gonna be releasing 5, 6, 7, or 8 models a month ... most likely 1 or 2, and sometimes 3 but that is it.

Gordon, would it be hard to get the artwork for an AirTran 737 since it isnt a defunct airline? The current AirTran colors looks great on the 737.

I'd rather see 1-3 good quality releases per month than a flood of releases, most of which would be of dubious appeal. My opinion (and remember, opinions are like an as*holes, everyone's got one), pick liveries that are familiar to everyone and might even add to what we have already in our collections- for example, a PSA 737-200 in the shocking pink livery would go well with the Jet-X PSA 727s, or a Delta Widget 737-200 would go well with the other Delta releases that are out there.

I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing these babies! EVERY picture I've seen looks better than the last and that's RARELY true of most models! I agree with the Doc and David... Do a few obscure ones like some S. American and African carriers and expand on the stuff released by the other companies as well... A pink PSA would be genius and delivery CS even better! A United Mainliner would be AWESOME! A Delta widget would sell out faster than a So. Cal new house lottery!

At any rate, two diverse and interesting liveries a month beats the ¢rap outta month after month of 5 EuroWhites and "yet another variant" of the same airline all year! Of course this is aimed more at DW and the old Tucano releases than GJ, but the perception is the same... break the perception and you've REALLY GOT SOMETHING! Andrew seems to have the formula worked out pretty well... "Follow his leader!"

I'm looking forward to the Frontier, USAir and Ryan Air as well. Mine should be on the way. Glad to hear they all look sharp.

I agree on keeping the next releases in the "well known" arena. Based upon what I've read in this forum, many collectors have voiced a desire to see a USAir triple red. I'd definitely go for this one. The Braniff "Reebok" scheme would be a nice addition to any collectors fleet.

Enjoy the hobby!

Now we will all have to live with obscure and meaningless Chinese and Canadian airlines on these moulds.

Thank you very much for making this hobby enjoyable, Mr. Klein.

What makes you feel so free to say something like this?

True, under the original contract between AK and SMA, Aeroclassics can only make Chinese and Canadian 737's with this mould. HOWEVER, that doesn't prevent someone else from making other 732's with that mould.

Since SMA failed to pay their last bill to the factory, all their moulds were impounded. While Andrew will honour his word, it doesn't mean the factory cannot bring someone else into the picture.. Say, Sovereign.
