Would much rather have seen this model on the BB / AC mould. But, Gemini are the ones actually bothering to make it, so there it is. Looks really good despite the awful pylon-wing joints. That's an item Gemini could refine.

After almost 2 months of no new purchases, I have 3 new planes, bought over the course of 3 days. July 10 was my birthday, and as a result, I bought myself these three big and mighty airliners.

Here they come!

1st purchase (11 July 2019)
1. Gemini Jets United Boeing 787-8
2nd Purchase (13 July 2019)
2. BigBird Malaysia Airlines Boeing 747-400
A card comes with the plane. It says that it is “Limited Edition of 360”. Does it mean that I might have a rare model?
3. Gemini Jets Emirates Airbus A380-800 “Year of the Zayed”

Jim - if I read the tea leaves correctly, NGModels have hinted at a 1/400 scale 747 release somewhere down the line. If anything could motivate Gemini Jets to tweak their 747 mould and clean up that pylon/wing join, that might, and probably will. I still have no GJ 747s in my collection due to that one glaring fault. Doug

From the dreaded ebay - seller 'bundys-boutique' which is an outlet of Aviation Retail Direct. Cost me a fair bit after some aggressive bidding at the end. I believe Pan Am operated this one between 1979-1983; it was a visitor to LHR many times during that era so perfect for my diaroma. This was part of a set of 4 Pan Am 747's that AC released in 2008, 2 other cargo versions were made plus a passenger 'Clipper Ocean Spray' which I already found not that long ago; a run of 300 was produced for that one plus the run of 180 for this version = 480 pieces. Not an easy one to find by any means!

Good find - found that one myself a few months back. I see we’re having a bit of a Pan Am 747-fest here at the moment!

Even with no windows, they have clearly printed the fuselage cheatline too high, pushing the titles up! I don't know how they managed this on so many models?

...still, it’s a lovely model and I’m very happy to have this one in my collection. I suspect that the other 179 are happy with theirs too, as I found this one extremely difficult to find!

I'm glad your BB3 KLM 747's have arrived. Mine is still showing "Validated" on March 17, 2018, and still on "Pre-order" status!

EBay ripoff artists already have their hands on the models, I see, and are trying to ask a fortune for them. Too bad for them that the model can still be ordered for new-model price (for instance, at Waffle, $44.95 plus shipping).

Hope you get your copy soon Jim! Waffle is showing only 1 left in stock I got mine from demographer_x and he's already sold out as well. I think this one has proved popular.

No surprise about ebay - the usual story there. I hope most have been able to secure theirs via the retailers at normal prices.

That seems to be the pattern with BB3. The models show up on eBay a month or two before retailers get them. I suspect that once people saw that the things had actually been made, they pre-ordered.

Some funny goings-on with this 'BB3'. Lots of 'back door' stuff I suspect.

They are distributed in the same fashion as JC. Show up on the Chinese Taobao pages and HK eBay pages about a month before the western retailers get them.

Big Bird Mk. 3 KLM 747-200. Ordered March 17, 2018, delivered today, August 13, 2019.

Good model, but not quite the quality of original Big Bird or AC 747's. For some reason the aerials are fatter, more like Gemini's. Window line is a touch high, as was noted in discussion. Also, there apparently was a paint flaw at the base of the tail on the port side, which some employee sloppily put paint on. I can at least paint over the crack myself and reduce visibility somewhat. Still a nice model.

I think the aerials were only added once the mould started being used by the JC factory hence why they are similar to GJ aerials (as GJ is made in the same factory)

The real deal for BOAC in 1:400: BigBird 400 747-100, made in 2006. 747's of this quality have never been matched. Hoping NG models makes a mould to match, and surpass, it soon.

Bought for well under three figures. Patience pays off.

Nooooo!!! Sorry to burst your bubble Jim, but it was discussed when this model was released that the 'BOAC' font is completely inaccurate on this model. The Gemini BOAC 747-100 may not be the best mould but at least they got the BOAC font right. We still need an accurate BOAC 747-100.

Too-thin titles or not, I'll keep this one in the hope that NG does a 747-100/200 mould and makes a corrected one. If I had the equipment, I would paint-correct the titles on the BB1 model myself. I'll paint over chips in solid colors, but haven't tried doing something as fine as titles.

...if I had the means, I'd produce my own replacement 1/400 decal for it, printed as a dry-rub transfer, then remove the existing titles carefully with a cotton swab of acetone (a dilute solution with a little water to prevent taking the gloss varnish off as well), and then replace. Lovely model nonetheless.

No surprise about ebay - the usual story there. I hope most have been able to secure theirs via the retailers at normal prices.

Demographer has more in stock as he has relisted this on E. Bay and I have one on the way from him.

Excellent news Adrian - very happy that you've managed to secure a copy from him, at a reasonable price. Despite the nit-picks it's still a very handsome model which also has additional printed details on the fuselage (the flag emblems), these were missing on the original BB release.

My first NG model. Just arrived this afternoon.

I forgot I had the Blue Box Air Canada Tristar 500 as well as the Delta DC-8-71. Put them in the shot for comparison and eye candy.

I know it's not the point of your post, but I've always loved those GJ DC-8-71 models. Not definitive, but pretty much the only options for the type. I've got the United.... maybe I'll pick up the Delta, at some point!

Yes I agree. I should get the United -71 myself as it's the only one I got to fly on.

Just checked, looks like I actually got to fly on it twice, both times in Delta paint. MKE-ATL and then again on a DFW-ATL. On the DFW we went all the way up to FL410 for cruise, got a couple cool photos. Had the whole row to myself on that flight, too. A rarity for a commuter-hell route like DFW-ATL.

Yeah, what was left of the 5500 fleet was finally parked at the end of 2015. I got to fly on 5525 in 2014 and again in 2015. I'm envious you got to fly on it while it was at the red tail.

Gemini British Airways Negus-livery heritage 747-400. Saw it at LHR this summer. Decent model, but the usual sore-thumb awful Gemini pylon wing-joints.
