I don't actually have Alzheimer's, that was a joke about my forgetfulness, sorry to give the wrong impression!

And now this thread is on page 16, so I suppose I should post more photos. Here's a recent find, Aeroclassics KLM DC-8-63 PH-DEK. I'd wanted it for some time, and it came up at a suitable price.

There's not been a lot of activity here lately.. so I will mention a couple of my recent additions..
AC Derby Airways Argonaut,
GJ ATA B757-300, its longer than my other ATA 757; which must be a 200
and an Air NZ 747-400.. with the all-blacks logo on the side.. not sure of the make; the box gives no clues. The main wing is a cradle and metal, the undercarriage is more like the Herpa, but there are no main gear doors and there is no name on the underneath..
Any clues..?

I don't buy a lot of old models right now due to limited budget, but I still get some good finds. Until Aeroclassics makes L-1011's, I get the best representative I can find of the carriers I want. This TWA 80's solid-titles double-stripe had been on my list for a while.

Among the Aeroclassics beauties I've been watching for is this Continental 737-291 N7371F in hybrid Frontier colors. It finally came up at a price I would accept and it joined my collection this week.

So glad that I found this for sale from my retailer at only $42 USD! Most of these sell for over $100 USD on eBay, so I'm happy with this deal.

AeroClassics

Olympic Airways 747-200 SX-OAA "Olympic Zeus"

Love the Aeroclassics Olympic 747's! I wound up with 2 of SX-OAA because after I bought it, someone sold a set of all three for a reasonable price. No worries, I put one in the 70's section and one in the 80's!

I haven't posted to this thread for a bit. As many know, Waffle just had their second big collection sale in a short time. I was a bit tapped out from the first sale, and had to be away from the Internet at key times, but still got some good finds.

I generally buy only Aeroclassics or BigBird400 747's for the liveries they have done. But there are a lot of terrific liveries AC and BB400 didn't do, and others did. Few new 747's are done in 1:400 these days, so I get those, too. So I got this neat Dragon Wings Aerolineas Argentinas 747 in 1998 World Cup 3 players promotional scheme. DiMA shows this and the Dragon 2-players version as the only 1:400 747's of this Iberia-like AR livery.

I also generally only buy AC and BB 747s and have never even considered Dragon Wings. The only other 747 manufacturer that I've purchased is Witty/Apollo and I think that they are top notch! It's a shame that they're no longer around because they created some quality models. In fact I just purchased one Apollo 747 and a 777 from my retailer in Denmark and am looking forward to receiving them.

In the meantime here are two recent Apollo 747-400 purchases.

Apollo British Airways 747-400 G-BNLD

Apollo Air France 747-400 F-GEXB

For some time I've wanted a representative of Mandarin Airlines in my collection, as a major carrier of a significant country. Of the available options, the Gemini old-mould 747SP and the Dragon 747-400 were the ones I preferred.

Recently, I found the Gemini 747SP on eBay for a reasonable price. The old mould has the 'static' landing gear and cradle stabs. But, it's a decent mould for its time, and it'll do when there isn't a better option.

Recently received one of my holy grails - ACPAA780PA Pan American Boeing 720-030B Jet Clipper Carib N780PA. 'Won' it on eBay from Drew Conville who you will remember as the past owner of Collectablejets.com. I got it for $44. which is a reasonable price for this model. His eBay address is constructiondiecaststore and he lists some interesting 1/400 stuff now and again. Keep 'em flying, Doug

Nice Aeroclassics acquisition for a workable price. Qantas 747-200 in the late 80's-90's scheme.

I am sad to report that this beautiful, nicely-detailed little JetX Continental Express BAe-146 is a zinc-rot zombie. The model was made in 2007, and the rot is very early-stage, so this appears to be late-onset rot. It's hard to see in the photos, but the wings are rough, and their tips are starting to bend up.

Whatever happened to the zinc-rot thread? We need a collective one that everyone can edit and add to.

Jim

Big shame about that 146 Jim, very cute model too. I take it the Jet-X was the only incarnation of this particular subject?

Picked up some gems at two recent model fairs, including a few 'Holy Grails':

BigBird400 Air New Zealand B.747-219B ZK-NZZ 'London Titles', completes the set

BigBird400 South African Airways B.747-244B ZS-SAN - like a recent post from a user above, this was an 'impossible' holy grail which I finally got hold of for a fair price, and it's stunning.

Gemini Jets Iraqi B.747-SP YI-ALM, very nice model

Aeroclassics Eastern L-188 Electra in Hockey Stick livery. I buy almost no propliners, because my interest starts about 1970. But I've lived in Washington, DC for a long time, and Eastern ran Electras on the DCA shuttle until 1977. So when this model came up for a reasonable price at a Waffle collection sale, it made a nice add.

Thumbs up Re: Show your latest 1/400 purchase

Some recent BB400 acquisitions. A few more gaps filled, at a cost. 11 years collecting these so far, still quite a few to go. Hope to get there eventually.

BB400 American Airlines N9670 B.747-123:

BB400 All Nippon Airways JA8147 B.747SR-81, 1970s 'Mohican' Colours:

BB400 Philippine Airlines N742PR B.747-2F6B, 1970s colours, with corrected 'pp' titles - I have a recent thread on this subject:

BB400 Philippine Airlines N741PR B.747-2F6B, 1970s colours, 'Mahubay Chicago', again with corrected 'pp' titles:

Jet X/Blue Box, Lockheed sales tour Tristar N305EA in basic Eastern livery with additional Court and BEA logos for it's early 1970 promotional visits to these airlines and European Air shows, circa 1972/73.

From a recent Waffle collection sale. I was never a fan of the British Airways "World Tails" general scheme. But some individual tails were beautiful, like the South Africa tails done by sisters Martha and Emmly Masanabo.

Aeroclassics and BigBird 747's remain my highest priority in 1:400 airliner collecting. At the same time, both parts and printing detail have advanced considerably since these moulds were largely retired after 2006. For example, NG Models 757's, with 'bar-raising' landing gear and detail of printing, and antennas. The -300 and -400 747 moulds, which remain outstanding moulds after all these years, have been touched up with antennae in the new BigBird releases (those, ahem, that actually have been released). Imagine touching-up these moulds more with new high-detail gear, and reissue lots of classic 747's. I think there would be a solid market.

But, all the same, these remain beautiful, prized models. Enjoy!

Jim
