Due to hourly emails asking when the next Geminis are arriving, please note that the new Geminis are not at the Las Vegas supplier location yet as they are still stuck on a boat in the Pacific ocean due to the west coast port 'work slowdown'. If you don't know what that is then look it up.

Re: New Geminis....FYI
Excuses, excuses. Chinese New Year need not affect a manufacturer's output and release schedule if proper planning is in place!

Who gonna work for you during chinese new year? For many this is their only chance to be home with family during entire year. Even hotels and mail companies stop running.
Only if you are some boss that dont even let your workers to have a rest.

Joe, you need to re-read what aklein707 wrote.
Meaning, there should be no delays from the factory approaching Chinese New Year if management properly plans their production schedule. Could include taking into account when their employees are starting to leave.
aklein707 never hinted at stopping his workers from going home.

How about preplanning the releases and making the models in the months before CNY itself? Come on man, just because it is Feb/Mar releases doesn't mean that it has to be manufactured in Jan/Feb.

Maybe they can release less during other months so they can have capacity for Chinese New Year, but I doubt they can spare capacity during normal working days. If adding more workload, I don't think that's fair for those workers.

In China, the management plan is always working in full capacity. Workers are paid cheap. They normally work 8 hours a day but most of the time work overtime, usually 12 hours a day. They are asked to work as fast as they can non-stop. There is no such properly plan. Manufacturers always wanna earn as much as they can. Workers don't have much rights like those in the US. So if you are really talking about plans, that basically means putting more workload on those already overloaded workers.
I don't think producing models earlier would help. Once you've finished your product, you'd want to get it out as quickly as possible. Having stock that is ready for consumers but sitting around in storage for months will only cost you money. They may just want to release fewer models during Feb/Mar or not release anything at all and give our wallets a break!

SPEAK NOT OF, WHAT THY KNOW NOT OF!!!
China is a big country, and just because the HK owners of factories in Guangdong trample all over their worker's rights in a province which has no law & order, doesn't mean the same goes on in the rest of the country!!

Well said my friend!! As a matter of fact, our workers left for vacation on Feb.4th, and won't return to work until early March.
Aside from a few lazy ingrates from Guangxi, who we asked not to return, the others will all be back to face another year of quality production, well rested, and happy!!
Where will you be going for CNY? TPE or NYC?

Port operations along the U.S. West coast have all but shut down due to an ongoing labor dispute between employers and union port workers. There are literally hundreds of loaded cargo ships sitting idle in the Pacific Ocean and they're going nowhere fast. This "work slowdown" at the ports is costing the U.S. economy millions and it's going to continue to worsen until an agreement is reached or until the federal government steps in.
The January Gemini releases, as Nick mentioned above, are sitting aboard one of the many cargo ships. I was at the Gemini offices yesterday and I can assure you the staff at ADI is extremely concerned about the situation and are doing everything possible to stay on top of it. Yes, there are some great releases stuck on some ship. But whining about when ADI/Gemini or your retailer, such as Nick, is going to get them in house is not going to make them show up any faster. Try calling your local congressman/woman and stating your displeasure.

Off to sunny Miami, and then spend a few days in St Thomas.
Our workers started leaving last week, about 60% left with mostly locals.

Affecting us in China too, because the customers are not getting their goods so they delay payment. With no incoming payments, it's tough to pay workers and suppliers before they leave for CNY. Add in the annual bonus at this time and it's been a huge headache.
Need someone to pull a Reagan and fire them all. Doubt we can count on Obama.
Amen brother. Hanjin has pulled out of Portland in part because of the strike. That's a major blow to the local economy.
The longshoremen are tantamount to an organized crime syndicate. They are involved in all kinds of illegal activities. Dope, weapons, counterfeits, you name it. And if a stubborn person gets in their way, they will break their legs in three places.
I know someone who had close dealings with these guys several years ago and saw it all firsthand.

I have no doubt about ADI's concern about situation. They have customers like United, Delta, Emirates, Fedex, American, Hawaiian and all the other airline-customers who we watch release-after-release get concerned about their deliveries.
God help those people who won't be able to get their 20th Hawaiian A330-200 for their collection or their 50th Delta 767-300 within the next few days. I may exaggerate with regard to the quantities, but not by much.
