Default Gemini January/February Releases!

From Gemini's FB page!

Quote:
Hello Collectors!

Tomorrow we are announcing the new January/February releases. We have a really nice range of models, from the twin strips to the widgets for our US collectors to European narrow-bodies. If you're a fan of cargo models, you will be happy to hear we have five models for you in this batch.

As a little teaser please see one of the new releases below. If you have visited us here in Las Vegas I'm sure you have seen this one in person. Have a great evening!

Regards,
James

Really afraid of those 5 freighters, already bought 4 Aeroclassics this month, looks like it will be a very expensive one.

Had to utilize the Google to find out what it was.

Photo of Boeing 747SP with 787 Dreamliners Looking On - AirlineReporter.com

Quote:
This 747SP first flew on May 1, 1979 and was delivered to Pan Am ten days later with the name “Clipper White Falcon” and registion N540PA. From 1979 until PanAm sold the aircraft to United Airlines in 1986, she held three other names: Clipper Flying Arrow, Clipper Star of the Union and China Clipper.

United flew this 747SP until it was leased in 1993 to Tajik Air. United regained control of the aircraft from February 1994 to August 1995 when it was sold to the Brunei government. They operated the aircraft in VIP configuration until 1997 when it was then sold to the Bahrain government. Then finally in August 2008, the Las Vegas Sands Corporation bought the 747SP...
That's quite a history.

Just checked A.net for pics of the Sands 747SP and see that it was at KBOS on 2/24/12. Looks like another 747SP (along with the Yemeni) to add to my KBOS collection. Cool plane!

Looking forward to the rest of the list . . .

I guess Emirates put in a big corporate order again then ? I might take the 772 and 744F to go with last month's A330. And seeing as I just scooped up three Delta widget bargains on e-bay over the holidays, I may as well bring my collection up another notch with the MD-90 !

I also note that the TWA 767 EI-CAL has been previously released by Big Bird in TWA livery and by Aeroclassics Aer Lingus livery.

The Lufthansa A333 has already been released by AeroClassics (awesomely) and JCWings (questionably) as I said elsewhere ... WTF. TWA had more than 1 763 and Lufthansa has more than 1 A333.

There is no reason why different reg#s could have been picked

Volotea!
I can't believe it!!
I was ready to bet an arm and a leg that this 717 would never have made it to the 1/400!!! Spanish, French and Italian collectors should feel happy for this, let's see whether it turns into a commercial success...

This, Lufty's -500 and the widget MadDog will make it the most expensive Gemini month in years. It's good luck that both AC and PH gave a hiatus to my wallet this time.

Really? EI-CAL again? It's already been done very nicely in 1/400 a couple years ago. Why not one of the zillion of MD-80's they had in this scheme, instead of re-doing the rare and short-lived twin-stripe 763?

http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...iew-12220.html

Of all the planes in TWA's fleet, this was needed least of all. Rare, short-lived, and already done on a better mold.

Would have loved the TWA to be the last twin globe livery before the airline shut down. But alas, not the case.

Or in the last scheme - I've been waiting for that one for years since it's the only TWA flight I managed to get before they went away.

Happy to see the Delta Widget MD-90 though.

They've already made the last livery. The real question is why isn't this a 767-200 rather than a 300

Gemini do it again - though at least the Tigers 747 and Delta MD90 are vaguely interesting.

Why, OH, Why, would the TWA not be a Reg. different from the ubiquitous EI-CAL ???
How many more choices were available under the "N" ? -- many !!! so why the oddity which, as stated has already been made under its "home" airline?

I do not have the twin "jetstreams" in my collection, I want it, but what possessed GJ for the EI-Registration ??? ----eerie music tones here...........

Also, the trend to depict the capital letter "A" as a capital Greek or Cyrillic "Λ" ισ ρεαλλυ βεψομμινγ --I'm sorry, is really becoming tired and lame, ie: KIΛ motors of Korea, and now VOLOTE"Λ" (VOLOTE"L") of Spain. More of a cellular network provider in my estimation,
or, is it that they are saving money on paint and refuse to paint the "saddle" on the "A" -- a very real possibility given the new Iberia livery.........................

They did operate a few of them in the twin-stripe livery, so I wouldn't say that this was a complete bust. However, it would have been nice to have a different registration - perhaps EI-CAM or even N691LF which was one of the last if not the last -300 operated by TWA/AA before it was removed from service.

Phoenox models in responce to someone asking for this model to be produced in 1:400 answered: yes, please wait

So looks like it will be a phoenix release sometime soon

And back to the Gemini Kets releases, nothing for me this month, thankfully a rest for the wallet

Apparently - I was wrong: TWA never had a 767-200ER in the fleet. For a longer period of time. And in greater quantities. Sigh.

Wow what the heck happened to the star-layout in the universe last month that the corporate company decided to waste its time releasing models for collectors for the first time in the past 10 years!!????
Did Nostradamus write about it in his book? I wonder...
WOW!, WOW!, and WOW! ))))))))

The Flying Tiger with the 'shark' mouth is a great release.
Never knew the Tiger 747 flew like this, with the mouth.

Neither did I and looking around its hard to find a shot of it for real. All I could find was this partial:

THE 1970

Seems this was FT's first 747.

Nobody has mentioned the QF 738 - nice release and a surefire addition to my ever expanding QF 738 fleet.
FX Md11 also will be a welcomed addition - can finally retire my old DW version.

Actually one of the best months for releases by GJ in a long time.

I read an article that stated that it was short lived, because they did not want to offend the Japanese who associated it with the original Flying Tigers that attacked them. Can't seem to find that article at the moment...

Pre-ordered both the Lufthansa A333 and B753 and I pray that the Airbus won't have the same quality issues as I have with my Phoenix release.

Delta, TWA, and Flying Tigers for me.
Lufty 735 is tempting too.

Yeah, speaking from experience, there was more than one 763 at TWA in that scheme.

Heck, change the -L to an -M and you have one, without much work. (EI-CAM). At least for the short time it was in the fleet.

But to really do twin stripes on a 767, we need the 767-200. Almost all of those wore that scheme at some point.

Does anyone here know if the Emirates birds all come with the standard red boxes? Honestly, they make the buying decision easy!!

Emirates dictates the box design/art work. Look for the boxes to be consistent across the board with the releases from them.

There weren't any -300 in the twin-stripe livery with the 'TW' in the registration.

I am not sure what you mean by this. All of TWA's -200s' were ER though they originally delivered as a standard -200 and later upgraded to an ER version.

I expected GJ would use their updated 777 mould as earlier mentioned with new landing gear and antennas, maybe next time...

I meant to type N 6 xxTW, having N632 and 634 thru 640TW in mind.

But, I believe MD-11 is right. The "keepers" wore the last (and best for me) colors.
As it is, I stand corrected, and will settle for the EI-CAL/or, future 'M, which also show good pedigree, until an N6xxTW finds its way to my collection.
