I collect classics by choice. It is just that in the last year or two supply has been a bit sparse.

I voted 50/50 as I collect anything old and new related to African carriers.

Unfortunately the older releases are pretty hard to find and new releases of older planes seems to have stalled a bit.

Anything from the 80s to present day, with emphasis on airlines and aircraft types seen at Indianapolis International.

1960s to early 1990s US and Canadian airlines only (with a few "couldn't resist" European Aeroclassics as well)

We need more 1970s and 1980s subjects - how about a Frontier MD 80?

I guess it all depends on what people think is a classic doesn't it. Even in my mind the definition is unclear. I'd have thought there has to be a date cut off but when would it be - 1990, 2000? I guess some people might even think that the plane type makes it a classic i.e. a Delta DC-9 is a classic. Interesting question.

After a few years of collecting 1/200 diecasts, I've recently rediscovered 1/400s again, as I'm running out of room for the 1/200s, especially the widebodies.

One thing I like about 1/400s besides the fact they're easier to store, is the far bigger variety of models available. I collect both present-day and retro.

When Phoenix/Aeroclassics/Gemini announce their upcoming releases, I look right through any '50s - '60s mostly prop offerings as if they weren't even there. Most of them are eyesores. Same goes for Boeing 707s, DC-8s, and the first-gen 737s that have those hideous looking P&W JT8Ds hanging from the wings. DC-10s or 727s are the closest thing to "classic" that I've ever been interested in.

The same scenario is rapidly playing out at this very moment for DC-10/MD-11/747 and so on- you can still find them in the skies if you look, but their end is drawing near in order to make way for 777/787/A350 and beyond.

Exactly! Aeroclassics used to make types that earnt their 'classic' status, but lately seem to regard Airbuses as 'classics', which in my mind have not earnt that 'classic' status. Great shame, as they are trying to compete with the other manufacturers producing current types. Aeroclassics has some unique moulds of real classic types that are greatly under-used.

Mostly modern jets. I like planes that are built after the stone age.

I do however, have 1 CX 707, 1 CX CV-880 and 1 CX DC-3.

I also have 3 x 742 (CX, JL, BA) and 1 x 741 (BA). I also have 1 x CX L-1011, and 4 x Concordes.

I'm Not Sure Of How The Poll Applies To Me, Other Than I Do Not Collect "Aircraft/Aircrafts ( I Can't Afford Them) , But I Do Own Several Models Of Aircraft.
My Choices Also Do Not Apply To The Poll. There Are Liveries In Each Decade I Like And There Are Liveries In Each Decade I Absolutely Abhor. So I Can't Even Choose "50/50"
I Have Propliners From The 50s, 60s And Jetliners From Dawn Of The Jet Age. While These Are Not Necessarily My Favorites, Nevertheless I Feel They Are Important Enough To Fill Many Voids.
I Would Have To Say Predominantly I Prefer The " Modern Age" Of The 70s, 80s And 90s Rather Than The Current "Hi Tech Age". Too Many White Things And Ethnic Flyerland Liveries For My Taste.

You of all people are editing/spell checking people's posts? You capitalize EVERY first letter of EVERY word when you write/post. I'd scale it back a notch there, Heavy.

Which is extremely hard to read since capital letters are usually used to denote the beginning of a sentence (i.e. a separate thought) or proper names (i.e. a specialized instance of something), enabling the reader to establish a proper flow to the communication. With every word capitalized, it just looks like a jumble of random thoughts.

Anyway...on topic...I agree with L-1011-Heavy in that I tend to go for interesting liveries more than I do types, and since the poll doesn't really define 'classic' it is debatable what my ratio would be...

DC-9 in a modern 2010 livery - not classic.
A320 in the 80s livery - classic.

I think this sums it up nicely. Although there aren't many DC-9's flying around with a 2010 livery, so those are destined to be classics as well...

I have to admit that I don't really do 1:400 now, but I collected what I liked, so that was 50:50 Classic-Modern.

As I say, I don't do 400 now, so the last model I bought was this Egyptian '707 beauty!!:

Ha, that's rich from one that cannot type in English correctly without starting every word with a capital letter! Come on, try and kick this irritating habit Rick?

Probably 70% pre-1990 for me. The remaining 30% is my Continental globe fleet.
