Default Odd gold models

I was going through some of my older models and came across these two but can't remember the details. Does anyone know if these were released with the regular colored versions? Were these more limited? They are fantasy of course but since they are L1011s I love em!

G'day,

Typically Blue Box would make a special run of between 10-20 golden models on every run they made in prototypical colors. Several brand names ( Blue Box, Magic, Sky400, Sky500, Jet-X, Netmodels (possibly more) - All are made at the Witty Factory)

Here is the link to the prototypical colors of the Air Canada model as in the database:

Blue Box 1:400 Air Canada L-1011-500 - Wings900 ID# 14909

Here is the link to the prototypical colors of the ATA model as in the database:

Blue Box 1:400 ATA American Trans Air L-1011-50 - Wings900 ID# 17086

Would you be okay if I add your two models to the database?

Cheers Lou

I always thought they were just sample models made in very limited (5-10) numbers to look for printing errors.

They are separate runs done and different from sample models as I also have several sample models by Jet-X, Blue Box, Magic and Sky400. All these models have printed on their underbellies the word 'Sample' with standard prototype colors.

Unfortunately often on e-bay, various sellers will state that Golden or Gold plated models are samples. They're not though! They're a separate run of 10-20 models, usually completed after the original prototype run of models.

folks ... these are simply printing-proof sample models. The gold-tinted chrome shows mistakes in printing better than paint when they are setting up the tampo-printing machines.
