Default Just Plane Fun - any opinions appreciated

Hello!

Have anyone of you recently bought something from The Just Plane Fun? Can you share your experiences?

I am thinking about ordering some planes with shipping to Europe and I want to be sure that they treat their business seriously.

No problems here, I have ordered from them about 20 times. Orders shipped domestically in the US.

Very good seller but or overseas buyers, I suggest you buy more that one model to make the shipping costs work in your favour.

I would order locally from ebay, England/Germany, unless it is something rare or soldout I don't see justifications buying overseas.

As a vendor they are legitimate. I have ordered from them before and will continue in the future

I'm not a fan as follows:
1. Twice I have ordered from their "in stock" inventory and later received an email stating they don't have stock and blame their supplier.
2. Email comms are poor.
3. Getting a refund on the failed orders took over a week each.
4. The one time I successfully received a jet it was poorly packaged (placed at very bottom of box with packing material just on top. The jet was broken. They did refund me the price I paid and gave me a gift certificate for the return shipping cost. When I tried to use the gift certificate on another in stock order I got the same BS as point one above. I am done diddly done with them.
5. Their inventory management is obviously really bad.
6. their website is awful.
7. Their shipping prices to Canada are steep.

I vented about them in a thread titled Inept e-commerce. Now I only buy from eztoys and airplanereplicas.

Shipping prices to UK are horrendous, in many cases more than the price of the model. Unless you are a US customer, I would not recommend them as they are not competitive.

Would highly recommend Jet Collector for anyone in the world :

Aeroclassics, GeminiJets, Inflight, Western.Your die cast airliner source | JetCollector.com

and Aviation Retail Direct if you are in Europe. I only buy from these two dealers.

Blaming a dealer on shipping prices is not what we should even be discussing!!

If anyone has a problem with shipping prices, they should blame the postal service and/or the location in which they live.

The discussion, which keeps going OFF TOPIC, is about Just Plane Fun!!!
My 2 cents, they are excellent!!

Most of the other comments are irrelevant.

You're Wrong,
Discussing shipping costs is part of dealing with this retailer.
It is up to the seller to do something about shipping not just have a website that automatically adds a default value.
Using your logic, I'm going to be expected to buy, ask the seller to not make shipping arrangements and I'm left to do it my end.
Yeah like I've really got the time and interest to do that - simple solution, go to another retailer. All the models I want can be sourced elsewhere.
Oh and I completely agree that it's my fault for living in Australia and using their "worldwide offered service" instead of relocating and renting an apartment 30 feet from their door.
I'll take your $0.02c and raise you $0.02c = My $0.04c worth!

I bought from them several times. I'm agree with earlier posts - never trust stock availability information on their website, now to confirm it I contact them every time before buying anything and asking them about actual availability of the items I am interested in. As for the shipping, their main problem is that they don't offer economy shipping option as some other retailers do, the difference between economy and priority/express shipping rates is especially sensible when it comes to international shipping, often it's just not logical to pay more for shipping than for the shipment content

Opinions are what was asked for, and can cover many aspects including shipping costs. On many occasions the overall shipping cost can well exceed the value of the stamp on the package. So it's a matter of how much above the actual "stamp" value is considered to be a reasonable add on.

As far as I can see, all posts are discussing JPF and in particular their shipping prices, which are unecessarily high compared with other US dealers. If all dealers had the same shipping rates, this would not be an issue. If they are going to be competitive, they need to fall in line with other dealer's lowest rates.

I agree Adrian,
I can get quite a few models shipped from Nick in one shipment for very little extra compared to the JPF default shipping value for one model.
I think they should review their shipping prices (downwards of course!).

It's called covering their a** in case of fraud. They ship only priority with a tracking number because buyers cannot be trusted. That is exactly the message they are sending out. Sending a model by First Class Air is unthinkable. They have absolutely no idea how much business they are missing out on.

Thank you so much for all the valuable information!

Actually I want to buy about 7 model airplanes and all of these seems to be available at The Just Plane Fun. I guess it still might be cheaper getting them at one retailer in US, than buying separately from 2-3 retailers in Europe.

Please don't say that too loud. I am making a killing with using First Class International to customers in over 20 countries and I would like to keep it that way.

What you don't get about 1st Class International shipping is that every country is different when it comes to scanning the LC number, some do, most don't which leads to fraudulent claims to Paypal due to their loophole in claims. USPS 1st Class International Shipping is crapshoot period, Sellers/Retailers need to protect themselves against possible fraudulent claims.

I haven't had a fraudulent claim in over 10 years and I ship all over the world every week via First Class (slow) Airmail.

I would mainly attribute that success on the fact that I dont sell on ebay, where fraudsters, cheats and morons abound in droves. Proper model inspection and box packaging also plays a big role on whether our fragile models arrive intact, or in pieces. Using brand new boxes that have the flaps matched up and fully taped with the best tape that money can buy does wonders for safe arrival.

It's wrong to think like that. From what you say and JPF does, USPS should get rid of First Class Int'l. service because it is easy to commit fraud.
I've received hundreds of models via this service without any damage or claims on my part. I just don't see the logic or common-sense to pay $32 for a $30 model.
Good on Nick for doing this.

I've ordered from JPF a few times a few years back. Really had no problem from them, and had models shipped to me very quickly (within 3 days of order.)

A great retailer, but with really high shipping would be AdamJets. Again, I can't speak internationally, but when I ordered a few models from them, I remember the shipping bill being considerably higher than anyone else I have used (Airline Museum, JPF, Diecast airplane, Past Time Hobby (who has the cheapest shipping for US orders), eztoyz, just to name the ones I remember using in the past), and this was just your standard everyday USPS option that most retailers use. Of course, it wasn't a problem in there as I still got the models for a really good price.

Good point Nick, I have only speculation why JPF doesn't ship USPS 1st Class International to protect itself against possible fraud.

The whole USPS 1st Class International tracking system for countries needs to include a universal tracking system to ensure proper mail delivery. Currently there is a loophole in the system that makes 1st Class subject to possible fraud.

Interesting. It appears that I could increase my shipping and handling and yet at the same time remain competitive.

Always good. Check out their sale bin every now and then. I just picked up a 1/100 Air Wisconsin A328 jet for $9.00. It's not a Herpa, but it's quite accurate in shape and proportion. Got a similar deal on LH Dornier 728 jet - (An airplane way ahead of it's time).
