Default My Holy Grail of 1/400 SMA Frontier 737

What a crazy month. I found my "Holy Grail" of 1/200, the IF200 UAL battleship gray 747-400 and then two days later found my "Holy Grail" of 1/400, the SMA Frontier 737. I did not think that I would ever find one of these. It is sentimental to me because Frontier had direct service from Redding to Denver in the 1980's with this type. This certainly brings back a lot of great memories. I know there are plenty of pictures, but wanted to share. Brian

Yes, SMA's Frontier 737 in the Saul Bass livery is definitely hard to come by. As is the Aeroclassics version. Congrats!

Probably one of the few models I have that anyone would consider a holy grail. I remember wihen I found one several years ago. It is a real beauty. Congrats on finding it. May I ask what you had to pay. I saw one once go for $214 on Ebay in July 2004. Wings 900 database shows one selling for $217 later that same year.

Lovely model. Yet it is still possible to find them for reasonable amounts. I bought my AC version less than 3 years ago for only USD35 from an English eBay seller.

It was my "Holy Grail" because it was hard to find, but mostly for the emotional aspect.... I got it on ebay for $58 which I thought was a steal.

Congratulations!!!

It was my 1:400 holy frail as well (Aeroclassics version) - I saw it pop up on one of Waffle's collection sales for $50 -hands were shaking as I snagged it into my cart!

It sure is a beauty - in about 1985 or so I saw one of their " MD 80s" in this scheme board and take off from runway 18 at KMSN (Madison, WI)

I would buy both 737 and M80 in this scheme in both 1:400 and 1:200

Did Saul Bass design this scheme too?

These used to go for well over $300 back in the day. It is an exquisite model.

Yes they did. at Denver in the 1980s you'd have seen Saul Bass designed schemes for United, Continental and Frontier.

I'd also like a Frontier MD-80 but the poor old Mad Dog seems to be continuously ignored by the major manufacturers.

It doesn't mean a thing. Similar announcements have been made for years and this horizon has been constantly moved forward.

Sadly the Jet-X mould nose is a snoopy-esque mess.

Agreed - DW would make a ton of money if they'd trot out some more of theirs...

Really nice. Are those 1:400 MD-80s custom models?

Whoops, forgot to add that...yes they are! The 1:400's were the Hawaiian twin pack, and the 1:200 is a beautiful custom done by Billy Wilt.

It's actually quite nice right where it is! I have a great shot of my Frontier 737 collection on a "racy" diorama: my ex's stomach. It's safe for the forum....but just barely!
