Fairchild FH-227 Whistle-Pigs
 

Though apparently not as popular as the CX A330s I was very pleased by the announcement of the two new US FH-227s over the weekend in the colours of the US Trunk carrier Northeast Airlines and the Local Service carrier Mohawk Airlines. They look like great releases and now that AC have moved back to the whistle-pig it's hopefully just a matter of time until the remaining US classic FH-227s get a look in.

This'll be most welcome as the prop fleets of the local service airlines have been largely neglected for far too long. So just to highlight what's left to do here are the other FH-227 operators and the liveries they used:

Ozark Air Lines
Operated 21 FH-227s between August 1966 and March 1981. They flew in two versions of the two green / one white swallow colours. Initially they had small colours and a light grey painted belly up to the cheatline:

Later they got larger titles and the white fuselage continued lower whilst the cargo door was outlined:

Piedmont Airlines
Operated 10 FH-227s between Nov 1966 and August 1979.

Delta Air Lines
Operated 6 ex NE FH-227s between August 1972 and Feb 1975.

Allegheny Airlines
Operated 16 ex Mohawk FH-227s, inherited from Mohawk after the takeover, between April 1972 and Dec 1974. Doesn't look like any were repainted but they all gained an Allegheny sticker:

Wien Air Alaska
Operated at least four ex-Mohawk/Allegheny FH-227s during the 70s:

I'm sure there are other deserving operators that can be done - the commuters Air New England and Britt Airways spring to mind however my focus is on the 1960/70s pre-de-regulation.

Of course for several airlines there are also still Fairchild F-27s to be done too - namely:

Ozark Air Lines
Operated 7 F-27s between July 1959 and November 1967




Aloha Airlines
Operated 4 F-27s between April 1959 and Dec 1967


Allegheny Airlines
Operated 10 F-27Js between Oct 1965 and May 1973


Pacific Air Lines
The short-lived gry and red triangles scheme is yet to be done:

Great post Richard, as always. I am trying to resist all these US internal airlines and restrict myself to those US aircraft that we saw in the UK - just don't have room for every release!

The only FH-227s we saw in UK were operated by Skyways Cargo Airline, but doubt if AC will release that.

I agree whole heartedly with your wish list. P.S.: Aloha eventually flew 6 F-27s at one time.

Great news that Northeast and Mohawk 227s are coming! My cousin who is retired from Delta and originally with Northeast "affectionately" referred to the FH-227 as a flying beer can. I never flew in one but they were lovely to watch and sounded great.

Good to see some more FH-227s are still trickling out. I just picked up the recent Northeast release with the Delta merger widget on the nose. Its barely visible on the 727s but on the FH-227 its quite big. Hopefully Delta and Ozark examples will follow:

KSYR was a big stop for Mohawks FH-227's (and BAC 1-11's) circa mid seventies. My family and i flew aboard only once. I do remember the huge windows though~!
