Default Is there a 1/400 Lufthansa 747-8 avail?

Please excuse my ignorance if this has been previously discussed, I am relatively new to the hobby...

I periodically see a Lufthansa 747-8 on eBay, made by Phoenix Models.. However, I cannot seem to find this at any retailers.. Was it a special/limited release?

Does GJ or anyone else plan to release this model?

It was released about six to seven months ago. It quickly sold out. Waffle has a Hogan Atlas Air B747-8f if you act quickly.

Thank you both for your response(s).

I'm finding it's very hard to collect certain airlines in the current livery, especially widebodies. Other airlines seem to get a new release every other month, with a different reg #. Is this a licensing issue?

Manufacturers are really dumb when it comes to re-releases. They hardly ever re-release models that collectors really want or models that are really rare (Southwest 737-700w/, AA 767-300w/ for example). If you want a rare model your best bet is ebay or someone who wants to sell one on DAC. I've gotten all my rare models from one of those two sources.

keep looking ... I would suggest you create a search on ebay for Lufthansa 747-8 and have it email you whenever one is put up for sale.

they do occasionally pop-up for sale but they go pretty quickly

I don't think PH cares about what you said. They re-released even re-re-released those rare and market wanted models again and again.

Personally, I'm hoping Phoenix does another one of these, but this time with the correct window configuration as well as the name of the aircraft. The first release was a little disappointing.

There's nothing wrong with "re-releases". As long as it has a different registration, it's a different aircraft as far as I'm concerned, whether it carries the same livery or not.

@CXB77L: Hey, you´re looking for the two old CX BigBirds? I got both of them, but both got that Zinc Plague, one on both elevators, one only on one elevator. Beautiful models indeed, and beside that elevator problem they are absolutley fine. PM me if you got interest, and send me an offer, if you want to.

Very good examples. Southwest 737-700s are as common as daylight in the U.S.

For guys like me who just started collecting, if you missed a release you're just plain out of luck... unless you are willing to pay double or triple the retail price on eBay.

The 1/400 diecasts are released in limited editions of 500, 1000 or 2000. Sometimes even fewer.
That's why they are called "Limited Edition Collectors Diecasts". If you start collecting a long time
or even months after one is released, if you look hard enough, and often, you will be able to find
one. Never say "out of luck" because you will talk yourself in to being "out of luck".

The PHX LH 747-8I was the biggest disappointment for me last year. I had this model in my hands a couple of months ago in the ACB-shop in Berlin but I didn't buy it. Phoenix did the same as Herpa in 1:500 that means both released this model to early because it hasn't full printings on the fuselage (" Boeing 747-8 Brandenburg") so this model is more or less a "ph"antasy-release (although it has flown without these marks during testings). No "must-have-feeling" here.

I still believe that PHX maybe does release a full printed LH 747-8I within the next two years. So (for me) this pre-delivery model is never worth 100USD or even more.

best regards from Brandenburg

Well if that's the case..HERPA NEEDS TO BACK THE **** OFF or make better 1/400 models! Stop cockblocking me from a better looking model, just because you (Herpa) can't make a superior product. End of story.

sometimes it simply takes patients to find the right model at the right price, not to mention plenty of research/sourcing to find that special aircraft.
I have the PH Lufthansa 747-8I (ground config.), a fine production; all the best hunting one down, Lufthansa models sell quick....

Got the PHX too, and as it´s been flying for a while without name, it´s not a fantasy model to me. Very nice model, would buy again for sure.

Does Herpa have an exclusive licensing agreement with Lufthansa?

I have the same version as you, and even if "Brandenburg" is'nt on the model, Reg# D-ABYA is correct. I am very pleased to have this in my collection.

This model is a beauty indeed. And I share your joy about this but was PH forced to come out with this so quick? In my opinion this is a lack of detail I cannot accept (local patriotism you know? ). Phoenix makes good models but unaccaptable flaws from time to time (new Air Canada A340-500 as well as 3 LH A333 I had on hand with the same quality issue). Nevertheless...enjoy your models!

Why ask if Herpa has the exclusive LH license? Phoenix released their B747-8i in 2012.
