Lightbulb Changes to Air New Zealand

1:No longer has the pacific wave
2:Good bye to the teal colour which will be replaced with black
3:The koru will be silver

Looks like the 1:400 manufacturers will have to redo the fleet

I think its a striking livery, and welcome. Very welcome, considering the proliferation of "fleet white" which is currently en vogue with most other carriers, which I find mind numbingly boring. I'd like to see a return of interesting, imaginative liveries, particularly using any other fuselage color besides white.

In my opinion I think the airline is going for a corporate look. Which is nice and clean and modern but very boring.
Flying with them alot compared with other airlines they are very tidy and modern.
The airline will only consist of 3 types of a/c: a320 w/sharklets, 787-9 and 777-300ER
All 733, 772, 763 and 744 types of a/c will be dropped by 2015.

It's no surprise to see the 733, 763ER and 744s go as they are ageing. However, I'd be very sad to see the 777-200ERs go, The 772ERs, however, are still relatively young aircraft that have many more years of service life ahead of it. Their oldest - ZK-OKA, was delivered in October 2005, so in 2015 it'd be merely half way through its service life. As such, I'm hoping it's not true ...

It's been widely reported. Most of the fleet hasn't had the Pacific wave for years now and the airline has much delayed putting out a new livery (it scrapped a previous proposal a few years ago). This new scheme sounds pretty awful - just one of far too many decisions the airline has made in recent years that though sounding good as marketing hype degrade the passenger experience (neutering airpoints, teaming up with DJ, 10 across on 777s, those space savings seats, changing the way they sell trans-tasman). All of those things make me less likely to fly NZ but then again I guess leisure travel and occassional economy class business travellers aren't what they care about? I already always fly non-NZ when going long-haul and I may well start trying to avoid them trans-tasman and domestic.

Personally I find it tedious and slightly offensive that they think black is the national colour of this country. Not everyone in NZ thinks Rugby is the best sport in the world or even a major factor in what the country is about today. Why can't they make their own brand rather than stealing one from the All Blacks!

Hell I'm not even a kiwi and it bothers me.

Wikipedia has more up to date info but also chat with air new zealand engineers in Christchurch.
Pretty much it's all about only having a fleet which reduces fuel consumption which is a good thing for both company and the environment.
This info was released also about a year ago when air nz won an award for environment/emissions.

737 replaced by a320with sharklets
767 replaced by 787-9
772 and 744 replaced by 773

Agreed about the black thing.
It's time air nz change from rugby to something true to itself!

How much of a link to ANZ is black going to be in 2016 or whenever, when the All Blacks get sponsored by Emirates or Qatar or Etihad with their cash pots???
Maybe teal aint so hot to them ow as a colour, but at least it was a small but significant homage to TEAL.

Fully agree. Maybe the current CEO should just rebrand the airline "Air Fyfe" before he leaves at the end of the year. Hes definatley leaving his mark on the airline. A dirty skid mark in my books.

How f...... Boring!! So many airlines going down this route. Gone are the good old days of colourful and interesting schemes! If anything Air NZ could've incorporated a bit of black into the existing scheme and possibly stretched the tail logo to extend over the back body!

Perhaps the new CEO will quash the changes, given there seems to be so much negative feedback?
