Arrow New Release: Latin Classics Mexicana B727-100

Aeroclassics has just announced their new releases, including two Mexicana Airlines B727-100 XA-SEA and XA-SEL

One of them with the same livery as Mexicana B727-200 XA-MXA released by AC in 2006 and the other with the aztec calendar on its tail...

There was a pre-sale at adamjets...but after 1 hour and a half...both are SOLD OUT! AMAZING!!!!

Cheers,

Marco.

Hi Marco, nice to see you. Greetings from the cold and dry southern Brazil.

Maybe a Mexicana fan (or expert) can tell me...

Which Mexicana tail design came first: the round gold emblem or the little three-legged Aztec figure? (Please forgive/correct me as what these two designs are truly known as.)

What years were each of the two tail designs used?

Thanks!

PS: It's 8:51 PST and EZToys still has both for sale (not sold out).

Hello Todd,

The round gold emblem is the "Aztec calendar" and came first (60s) and then the Mexicana emblem which is an "M" with an "eagle磗 head" (70s and the most representative of the airline). The eagle is our representative animal (you can see it at the mexican flag). Thats why Aeromexico also has it on his logo, called "El caballero aguila" or "The eagle knight".

P.S. Yes, Eztoy has just re-listed some more models!! 2 hours ago they were out of stock!

Cheers,

Marco.

You磖e welcome Todd.

Yes!!! Something rare happened...before 7:56 PST they were sold out...then you saw the website at 8:51 and they were available again, then 5 minutes later "out of stock", 10 minutes later "available" and finally 2 minutes later "out of stock"...And looks like that was de definitive one. Did you get yours? Those are 2 beautiful birds!

Cheers,

Marco.

Ironically, I happened to be on the phone with a retailer on Wednesday regarding something else...when he mentioned that he'd be posting the new Aeroclassics models on his site in 20 minutes. Needless to say, I put the computer on pause for 20 minutes, grabbed a snack, took a sh-- uh, I mean shower, and came back...credit card in hand. So, yes, I got a pair!

Good call on Aeroclassics' part to release another Mexicana 727 in the '70s livery...as well as release one in the original delivery livery.

I've been lucky enough to secure the XA-SEL at my usual retailer, can't wait for it and the Cruzeiro to arrive !

The XA-SEL was unfortunately to be the second worst air crash in Mexico when it hit terrain near Monterrey in 1969, killing the 79 people on board.

You cannot trust their website. It is rarely updated and they have let several collectors down in other circumstances. There was a whole thread on this specific subject some time ago.

Totally missed out on both Mexicana aircraft and the Cruzeiro.
Third time this has happened - totally missing an AC release that I really wanted.

Oh well. You win some, you lose some.
800 models later, missing out on one isn't quite as painful.

Try making enquiries with AC dealers not in the target market. (The Americas in this instance.)
If I can't get my fix from Airplane Replicas, three I successfully have dealt with in the past come to mind. ARD in the UK is a possibility, also the AC dealers in Hong Kong (Toymax) and Australia (CAM) might be able to help too. It is surprising what one can turn up with a little virtual globetrotting. Good luck.

I reserved 2 Mexicanan 727-100s (one of each) on ARD. Hopefully I "actually" reserved them, because it seems like they don't update quantities that well.

I can not say the same. Their web site isn磘 updated and I would be concerned to order an almost sold out model and after a couple of days I got a message informing that the model is sold out and at that time only ebay was the place were you could find the model, for outrageous prices, obviously.

This happened with me in the past.

Better is to call them and check if the model is really available.

there is no such thing as a "rare" model. they always appear later. you may have to wait, but they will come around again. and again.

I wouldn't worry too much about those 'sold out' notices dealers are posting. I believe dealers get a statutory six models of each Aeroclassics release, which usually do sell out immediately releases are announced. However dealers can always re-order until warehouse stock in China is exhausted and that will be the time when they are really 'sold out'.
Of course some models will be more popular than others in some countries, so in this case, find a dealer furthest away from Mexico and they will probably have these models in stock!
