I recently got a Jet-X KLM A310 , PH AGE part no J541A. Instead of the top of the fuselage being blue, its Metallic Gold. I tried hunting for it on the net but with no success. Is it a one off aberration or what ! I am clueless
It's kind of cool though, where did you get it?
According to Airliners.net it looks like it isn't even in service anymore in real life, and it was never gold, always blue. Interesting....
I know for sure there was never an A310 in gold, but this must be a gold painted modell by the manufacturer.. It must be also a rare one, because never heard of this gold modell..
think you will find this is a netmodels item. when i used to collect 1/400 i had a gold b.a tristar and 747. both netmodels. although they are rare, they never used to fetch much. there are some on ebay now by johanchan, some are 1/400 an some 1/500! found this asiana all gld 747! there are others!! the reaon its not in database, is nobody has submitted pics for it i would imagine!
I dont know why some models are gold like this but thee has been several airlines made, mostly by netmodels, perhaps its a reason for sample or the owner likes these models, They dont fetch much and most collectors find them ugly but i have been tempted to buy the Asiana 747 many times as i like everything about the model, Asiana, 744, rare, etc, i would pass on most of the others made.
These gold-colored plated models were mostly made by Netmodels and Magic Models for no good reason. They aren't in the database because they hold no monetary or collectible value at all. Enjoy your bling.

This one is in the proper JetX box with the correct item number. I get mine from a retailer in Mumbai. He, generally delivers the correct thing so I dont bother to check the contents pre delivery
That's VERY interesting! I can see how the printing would stand out against the highly reflective finish...I'd imagine they would be something that would only hold value years down the line, not necessarily to collectors of airliner models, but possibly to collectors of 'toy' related curiosities...

Re: Golden KLM A310
I had a few; gave 'em to my young kids to play with. They didn't quite fancy them either.

Just say NO to Apollo400/Black Box/NG(No Good)/Panda Models/Junk-X/First Choice/C&C/IF400/Witty400/Magic/AV200/AK200/Flightline/Flightline200/Flightline400/Pegasus/Blue Angle/5stars & any BigBirds (real or fake)
pretty much every model made in 1:400 scale (depends on the factory) has had a chrome or gold-tint chrome analog produced ... usually never produced in larger quantities than 2 or 3 ... but sometimes up to 12-24 are produced/sold
