SQ are always the first to do things like this - fleet age is very important to them.
I flew SQ 744'd many times and will miss seeing them in the skies

I would like to go down to Melbourne to photograph one of these before they're gone.
Anyone here in Australia know how old you have to be to buy an airline ticket eg. jetstar at the airport (on the spot) by yourself? thanks.

SQ's B744 were built in 95/96... They served for 17 years in SQ's fleet which is rather normal..

Didn't SQ get quite a few of the early -400s circa 1990?

Yes, they did, but they're all gone. The three remaining ones in service with SQ are 9V-SPJ, 9V-SPP and 9V-SPQ.

Little sad to see the B744 finally leaving the fleeet.

I can see that 9V-SPQ will have the honour of being the last B744 flight for SQ on 06th Apr to HK. I am really glad that I had that exact Phoenix release. What was even better was that in Nov 2008, after I got that exact model from Robert @ Toymax in HK, I carried that same model on the exact plane (SPQ) that carried me back to SIN.....& that has now turned out to be my last & final flight on a SQ 744. Wow!
