Default This is how I received my Herpa PAN AM 1:200 Boeing 747

I recently purchased a model from here on DAC as per this thread

The pics of the PAN AM on the thread are linked to these pics, in the arrival thread of the seller

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2535/...1a936422_b.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2423/...a8eb8616_b.jpg

Unfortunately the model was sent to me in just the Herpa box. When I opened it the engines had detatched themselves, so I decided let me ty and fix them and they stuck back. But the rest of the model was in no condition to be received this way, scratches, paint missing of certain places, and quite a few areas. Needless to say I was not very happy to receive it this way, and here are the pics of the model received. I have no choice but to return the model and demand a complete refund

It almost looks like how it would look if it was stored in Mohave...

I think I would've popped a blood vessel if I had received a model in this condition. Obviously an outer box was not used to ship it in. Get your money refunded pronto. This could be restored, but it would be expensive.

Forty dollars plus shipping for the Mohave Clipper. Hmm... Add $30.00 for desert scenery, costs for leasing space, monthly maintenance and Preiser spotters behind the fence. Not bad, not bad at all.

The matter has been submitted to Paypal

I did look at the pics as per the seller's request to check the previous threads.

I'm off to college at the end of the week, so I'm getting rid of several of my models so I can get a little more scratch to live on . Unfortunately I cant post any pics of my models, but if you do a search in the 1/200 forum you should be able to see pictures of most of them in my new arrivals posts.

Herpa 1/200
Pan Am 747-100 (Wings replaced with wings off of HG Swissair 747-100,
Also the nose landing gear doors with the original registration on them have been replaced with plain ones that come with rubber gears. I believe the actual gear doors should have remained and only the rubber wheels could have been replaced.

Here is the Pièce de résistance. There was no mention anywhere about the atrocious condition the main box was in. I mean seriously.

Well look on the bright side, you should write on the side "mojave storage edition" but honestly contact whoever you got it from or Herpa themselves. Make sure to send pics to so they know it ain't BS.

You'd think you wouldn't have to say "Oh please pack it carefully". Seriously I doubt even Herpa would send it this way. (And to think I nearly bought the HE United 777-200, as well)

Pics have been submitted wherever required, and especially here on DAC as this has got to be the most classic case of a model being received this way

This situation has taken a positive turn. I have just been notified by Paypal the seller has agreed to refund the entire amount. I appreciate the seller understanding the gravity of the situation and doing the needful.

I would like to come out and admit to being the one who sold this model. It was my mistake for not making a box for it like I should have, and I know that. I would like to apologize to 1:200Freak for also forgetting to inform him about the replaced landing gear, I had completely forgotten that I had to replace it and odviously the pictures from my arrival thread did not show that. In my rush to get all my extra models sold before I left for college I forgot t include all the models defects in the item listing (such as the box). All of the major scratches and broken parts happened during shipping, which only goes to reinforce the fact that it should have been packaged better. All of the criticism in this thread is completely justified IMOP and I would be mad as hell if I received a model I purchased in good faith off DAC in this condition. Needless to say 1:200Freak's money has been refunded as he requested.

It's a shame I had to receive it this way, as I was really looking forward to adding this model to my collection, as no 744 collection can ever be complete without a PAN AM in it. I appreciate your understanding in this matter and resolving the issue so quickly. I will be returning this model to you no sooner I get the refund. Please note this is also a long weekend in Canada.

Glad to hear that everything was resolved. Such a shame, that really is a beautiful looking plane....
1:200Freak i know how you feel though, i recently received 3 models that i had purchased from from a shop in Australia, only to find that Australia post managed to COMPLETELY destroy them in shipping (the only thing that i could imagine to do this kind of damage is that the planes were run over)

A video on my Youtube channel showing the remains....

No need to pay to ship back to me, I'm not going to do anything with it

In that case Freak, do one thing. Send the model to Billy, he'll restore it for you in the same Pan Am livery with several improvements.

Crying shame. At least the guy has been big enough to take responsibility and to apologise. I once received a 1/100 Syrianair 747SP from an eBay seller, packed in nothing more than a flimsy cardboard box containing a handful of polystyrene beads, and a few sheets of screwed up newspaper. The model was originally billed as a 'one piece model', needless to say, it wasn't by the time it reached me

Moin, you've no idea how I would love to show you a picture of it. This is quite some time ago now, and believe me, it was in a hell of a mess, and was missing one engine. I returned the pieces to the seller, and after a long wrangle I got my money back, I was gutted, how I had looked forward to finally getting an 1/100 SP. I'm pretty sure that it was Westway, it certainly looked and felt like one, and the wings had the metal prongs for mounting on the model, a Westway trade mark I think. No way was it Chinese or Philippine made, as it was too old to have been. Although I could not see a makers label, I could see where one once was, and judging by the residue left where a label should have been, it looked as though it would have been a Westway product. Thankfully nowadays, I at last own a 1/100 SP, in the striking colours of Alliance. That Syrian still haunts me though, and I think it always will.

Err.... how did the 1/100 Syrianair 747SP issue come in here. Perhaps that Syrianair 747SP deserves a thread of it's own!!

There is no need for me to keep this model, and neither does he need to find me another one. He has refunded my money. Once I receive it I will get back to airplanenut5588.

You paid attention to everything else and ignored this.

I think its a real stand up thing that you are refunding the money with no problems and coming out saying it was you. However I have to ask, have you never shipped something before??? Its pretty hard to believe someone would ship out a model without proper packaging. Oh well, I guess now ya know.
Glad everything got settled though!

Not everybody has the same opinion, unfortunately. What might work wonders for some, might not be the same for others. C'est la vie!

This is a fine example of how issues/problems should be solved. Yes they should never have happened to begin with but Thank you for sharing this and credit to you airplanenut5588 for coming out in the open getting this cleared up. If only all sellers/traders were so fourth coming to resolving issues/problems.

That's a shame Freakie! The bright side is it actually looks pretty cool with all the scratches, adds "dirt" effect to it.

Wow!!! That is a completely mess, the nose is totally paint scratched. What I do not like recently from Herpa is this plastic envelop, why they changed the foam protection? That packaging really sucks, and with innapropiate handle look what it results.

I hope you get a refund.
