Default Any news on the 747SP SAA?

Seriously, does anybody know, when (if?) the 747 SP in SAA livery is set for release?
Is there a chance, some manufacturer will release a regular 747 in that livery (again)? I so want one!

Cheers!

I heard 2020, but they also said it could be pushed back again. No official word yet.

This notice currently appears on the IF200 website: THE WAIT IS OVER. We are very pleased to be able to inform you that the 747SP program is now back on track. The TWA 747SP will be ready to ship out next week commencing Monday November 7th to our worldwide distributors. We are then planning, by the end of November to have the South African 747SP shipped out to our distributors.

Please accept our apologies for the delay in the manufacture of these models and we hope that you will be pleased with them once they arrive to the retailers around the world.

Did anyone receive theirs?

I called my supplier last week and he told me he had to send them all back. Broken gears, antennas, etc.

I fear that I'm not going to get mine at all...

I had begun to wonder myself when I saw pictures of it in stock at ARD. I received mine from eztoy.com a week ago (I ordered it a bit late too). The little plastic pointy gizmo at the end of one wing tip (what is that anyway?) had fallen off and needed to be glued back on but other than that it was in perfect condition. Nice looking model.

It's one of the two HF antennae.

There were a few here that had antennas that had become dislodged, but it wasn't something that an itty bitty amount of superglue wouldn't fix as good as new.

As nice as this model looks, I really don't like Inflight's business practices. They like to announce a myriad of models years before they are actually made (or at least MONTHS in advance) but once they've got your pre-orders, they don't feel that they have to take any responsibility for producing these models. Simply go on any model retailer's website and you'll see a long list of Inflight models that are available for pre-order: some of these planes, like the American 747SP, have been there for more than a year and a half. Why don't they simply announce a model of EVERY airline and of EVERY kind of airplane in advance so that they can dominate the market with pre-orders and then not produce them until years later (I'm exaggerating, of course)?! I have been waiting for the American 747SP for AGES and it looks like we won't see it soon. Yes, they said that "the production will be back on track in November." What a load of B.S.! I was stupid enough to pre-order the new Air Force One VC-25 as well...the money's been paid and I guess I might have to wait years for it!

Herpa, Hobbymaster and Dragon do the same thing (announce months ahead of availability), except their products don't cost $100+ a pop.

There is a story about why the 747SP was delayed so long. Some of it (or most of it) was covered here on DAC over the past year.

I don't have a problem with IF's approach... I've had the IF200 AA 747SP on order since the day it was announced - and I won't pay a penny for it until its on it's way to me so I'll carry on waiting patiently without getting irritated. Find retailer that doesn't charge for pre-orders until the model is actually dispatched to the customer - there are plenty around who don't engage in the dodgy practice of pre-payment.

Hey Andy,

Which retailer does not charge for pre-orders until they are shipped? Thanks!

The two that I've dealt with most regularly (thousands of pounds/dollars to both over the years) that don't charge before they have the models that immediately come to mind are:

UK - AviationRetailDirect
USA - Jetcollector

I'm sure there's more

Yeah, and not only did I get the Caravelle but (and remember here, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery) I also picked up another set of wings which should be quite familiar to you!

Ah, yes! Magnificent! Did you get yours from the Louvre or another source?

I see you have another of my faves . . . the Herpa AF Viscount.

I bought her from a sidewalk vendor outside the Metropolitan Museum a couple weekends ago. Probably not as nice as the officially licensed merchandise from the Louvre but the details are nice. Her wings might have a bit too much flex but her cockpit sure looks comfortable.
