The subject isn't my cup o' tea, but the detail looks great for a Hogan! The bare metal (silver paint) looks above average, too, especially for plastic.

wow so it is the newest nose mold!!!!! oh gosh, fantastic!!

speaking of australian airlines...you guys have to make this one also. we need more ultra detailed 767s in 1:200 plastic!!! and force them to make antenna haha!!

but i know you guys are focusing on more classic, old school liveries (which is great!!). love them cheatlines!!

Now we're talking!! That is one gorgeous looking model, new mold or not. This opens the doors to so many retro 747's i.e. PIA, Saudia, CX etc. Can't wait to get this one.

Now lets see who's going to call this a duck nose!!

Yes I too hope there will be a 747-300. Hogan is retooling all their 747 molds. The above model is just a sample and the production will be exclusively for the Australian market.

Hi mate,
I'd love there to be- it all depends on how quickly this Model sells in order to break even on this release financially. The sooner that happens, the sooner you'll all see the other releases.

Let me assure you, as sure as I sit here that this 747 will be as much of a hit if not more so than the A300's, so you better start deciding which 747-300's to do. Allow me to assist and prompt.

It's a pity this model had to be commissioned instead of it being a regular release, but I'm buying it anyway. lol

Out of curiosity, when commissioning a model, should I assume you still need permission by the airline?

Wink Re: Now who says Hogan Models have been boring lately????

Even though my collections are mainly diecast, I have a few Hogan plastic ones that even if there was a diecast version available, I doubt I'd replace it, simply because Hogan has nailed it so nicely.

That said, they could add a bit more 'surface detail' (stencils) to the general releases to pep them up a bit. As far as aerials are concerned, that would be nice to but I can live without them.

Pity this stuff has to come with 'special releases' only.

That new nose looks great, congratulations Hogan!!

(However why is there no white seperating line for the window just above the windshield wiper, and the one next to it. Notice the end two windows show the white dividing line. Hope what I am trying to point out makes sense)

I'm unclear why you guys are celebrating a new Hogan 747 nose. To me it looks just like the old one (pushed in) only having printed cockpit windows instead of clear. But as you know, it's never been a deal killer for me.

i wonder if its just the angle of the photo (that freak reposted). its not a direct side to side shot. first few photos seemed ok. unless this was just the old mold + filled in cockpit window. then id be duped.

I dunno, but even the first photo at the top of the thread shows the nose being pushed in. But again, that is not a deal killer for me. I've become accustomed to that.

Woo hoo, Hogan got it right .....but shouldn't there be some kind of seperation between the windows. This one looks like a dark grey band aid was plastered on the front of the cockpit windows Also the height at the top of the windows should be uniform and the same length. This one shows the main two front as being higher.

You can see it in this pic too

(See the pic in the original link )

Allow me to clear this up. Some 747's only have the main front windshield framed while the side windows are blended in with the fuselage color.

Yes true Moin, as Ghostk also pointed out.....but my question is the top alignment of all the windows.....the ones on the Hogan are not straight (see the top of the cockpit windows) and then compare it to this pic

That's because they are not framed. If they were framed they would all appear the same size. Also the addition of the frame makes it look like they are not of the same size and aligned right but they are.

Hi Randy,
To answer your question- yes, these commissioned Models do require Licensing approval. I'm fortunate enough to hold a License by Qantas to reproduce any Qantas Group Airline/ subject- going all the way back to TAA.
The advantage of my Models is that I will tend to go over and above the Airline requirements for detail because I'm a collector and enthusiast just like you guys.
Hogan regular releases are ordered by either an Airline or the large worldwide Distributors. They are generally not Airline or Aircraft enthusiasts- their main focus is producing x amount of units at the lowest possible cost; this will mean sacrificing a level of detail.
This QF B747-200 will cost me a premium of about 20% over the "normal" detail levels (there are about 190 individual prints)- but the collector in me says that it's worth it despite the bigger financial outlay (I could buy a nice brand new Car with the amount).
Just so that you all know- it's not Hogan who decide what level of detail will or won't be on any given Model. That is decided by the Airline or Distributor who places the order- and also by the Airline's Licensing representatives.
In the projects that I've worked with Hogan on to date, I've found them to be incredibly helpful and willing to make "my" Model releases a step above to meet my- and ultimately- your level of satisfaction.

Hopefully this clarifies how the industry works on a commercial level.

Anyway, glad that you guys like the Model!

Cheers,
Nalanji.

So what is the explanation now, as you can clearly see that there is a white speration between the windows. Also the cockpit windows above seem to have an angry look to them

Thanks so much for the explanation! I suspect I speak for many when I tell you how appreciative I am for all of your hard work (and expense) in bringing this model (and hopefully others) to the collectorate. I wish I could afford to commission a few models for us that the manufacturers won't (or can't do) but if the process costs as much as a new car, it ain't-a-gonna happen. lol

Thanks again!!

I think we're splitting hairs here. The cockpit windows on the model appears correct with partially framed windows with the exception that the center windows would need to be framed a 'bright silver' to highlight the separation as from the angle of the photos they appear to be blending in with the smaller side windows.

Now if only Hogan would do as detailed an ANZ 747-200 as shown in the background, among other models also mentioned.

Hi guys,

Just so that you know, the Samples will be available for viewing at the Sydney Aviation Model Show at Bankstown Airport (Sydney) in May. Feel free to walk up to my Stand (#2) and say g'day.

Also- this Model will be available in 2 distinct versions.
There is the one that you see with the Commonwealth Games logo/ titles.
The other version will just be the plain white top.
Rego and all other details will remain the same.

Cheers,
Nalanji.

Great, I'll go for the non-logo version.

Has any one received an update on the release of this model? I emailed the seller on June 7 but I haven't received a reply. (Perhaps he's on holiday.) Is it still being shipped this month?

I'm not really much of a Qantas fan, but the model looks fantastic! So much detail, Hogan did a fantastic job. I really would like to see many more 747s from them with this new mould, because they did so many great ones but the nose was what ruined them. Now that they have perfected the mould, its time to put it to use. With this mould I'd like to see them do a Saudia Release. With the redone -400 mould I'd like to see: KLM (once they get the go ahead), BA (once they fix the nose on the RR Mould), UA Battleship, Lufthansa, Thai Retro (HS-TGP), Cathay Cargo, Korean Air Cargo and China Airlines Cargo. Any chance of seeing these released or any existing 747s redone with the new mould?

Nalamji, is there any intentions to release the old 747-400 F1?
