Default My farewell models

So in the immediate future I have to stop buying models, this does not mean I am quiting the hobby, but I won't be able to buy any models for the forseeable future. I had my 4th heart procedure since birth, but it was non invasive, however it was not successfull and as such I now need a 4th full open heart procedure. This means I will need 6wks to 3 months off of work and we can't survive on just my partners income, so I have to save every penny I can until my procedure and I am back at work. My procedure will be later this year, so for now these are my farewell models as I won't be able to collect anymore until at least August, maybe longer. I might even have to sell a few, but I hope not. I should have already been saving, but I pinned my hopes on this last procedure being successfull as the doctors did not indicate otherwise, unfortunitely once they had stuck a catherta in my artery they realised they could not complete the procedure. Anyway enough of my issues, on to my last 2 arrivals (Excuse the dust).

I have been waiting for these since christmas.

JC V-Aus (aus flag version) I know there are a few defects, but I am not that picky and love it none the less, I will admit however my PHX 1:400 version looks a little better . Second is JC 1:200 Ansett 737-200 in shooting star livery

Finally a shot of just how crowded my desk has become. Maybe it is a good thing I don't buy anymore lol.

I forgot to add if the surgery does not kill me my partner will. Thanks to me discovering this website I have purchased at least 55 models in the past year lol.

Thumbs up Re: My farewell models

Best of luck with your procedure, Spud. Going through this sort of thing can be very unnerving, but with perseverance, often the odds can be beat. I'm convinced you'll be back to collecting sooner than you think.

By the way, lovely new acquisitions and nice collection!

Well, the good thing about being laid up is that you get to enjoy your models even more. I've found that with time on my hands, I study my models more than just taking them from the package and plopping them on the shelf. Plus, even if money is tight, you can look to trade your less favorites, do some wheeling and dealing. Good luck with your medicals, hope you get back on your feet soon.

Thanks for the comments. Just to clarify, I am currently capable of doing very light duties, meaning I can work, but I have to save every spare cent as I know in 3,4,5 hopefully 6 months (I say hopefully 6 months because I need time to save, if I knew we could survive without my wage I would want the surgery ASAP, docs do not think my arteries will get any narrower than they are now, and just to clarify that, I have had complications since birth, a med file 3 inches thick and my arteries are naturally narrowing, not caused by diet etc) I will be out of work for a minimum of 6 weeks.

I'm saddened to read about your upcoming surgery and wish you the best of luck with it. You're fortunate to have a loving and supportive partner.

As to the V Australia - gotta agree, despite the few flaws, it's still a fabulous model!!

Wishing you all the very best Spud for the opp and a speedy recovery. Nice collection there too. I have a question Spud on the data base here on this forum re the Ansett 737-277 Adv JC wings part# JC2AAA005 has the rego listed as VH-CZP. On your model it appears to be VH-CZO in your pic. Is this correct or my eyes playing tricks?
Cheers

Hi Spud...sorry to hear about your misfortune mate!

I know its no consolation right now, but I have been in a similar position in the past...my father passed away suddenly two years ago and I had to pay for all the related expenses, look after the household and my ill mother for a few months...on one (not very big) junior-position airline salary, that was extremely difficult. I too had to stop my collecting (to be honest I didn't have the spare money for it, but also had so many worries that I just didn't have the time or inclination to look at models for the first few months)...but, you'll find that things come right, and you'll get back into it, as I did, in good time.

I wish you all of the very best mate. And enjoy your excellent collection in the meanwhile!

Your eyes are not playing tricks on you. It is VH-CZO. My gripe with JC wings is they do not put any info including their own name, on the box. Might have to get some decent pics and do a database update.

To everyone else, thanks for the comments, they are nice to read.

rather than start a new thread

My day today is one of mixed feelings, but it is good because I have some answers regarding my health. Now most are aware of my cardiac condition so will not go into detail. 4 weeks ago I had a pulmonary stenting procedure, turns out when they went in they realised there was no point to the procedure as things were better in parts but worse in others that the MRI never showed, so I posted on here how I felt like it had been a waste of my time. I was told a 4th open heart surgery was needed, but it was risky.

Today a surgeon rings me, now he had good news and bad news. Bad news is he and his colleagues feel opening me up again with all the work I have already had done is an extreme risk to my life and as such they found another avenue to at least try first, it is a non invasive cathederisation procedure. Should I agree they want to try and insert a valve called a Melody valve wich was designed for people with congenital heart defects to prolong the amount of time before surgery is eventually needed. It seems this is used mainly in children, and I will be the first recipient of the Valve in W.A, it has been done a few times in the eastern states and as such should we wish to procede a surgeon from over east will come and perform the procedure. Now all my research thus far indicates it is not a permanent fix, but may prolong it enough for them to come up with a plan of attack. Really if it may just have a smidge of possibility I will take it as the other option is to risk my life, doctors said I wouldn't live past 11 and I beat them then, but this time the reality is I could die and the thought of that is scary, I am only 27 I have a 5yr old daughter and 2yr old son, the thought of not being there for them scares the **** out of me, although as my mother put it "you have to admit you have had a good life considering", but that was because we were talking worst case scenario. I have to have a conference with the 2 lead surgeons and my cardiologist in March.

Now you might be saying how is this a good day, but god damn I have been so stressed for the last 4 weeks not knowing what is going on, now I know and also know it will be done in the next 6months, the other great thing is I might not need 3 months off work anymore, which means I can breathe a bit easier financially. So at the moment things soound good. We will see how the meeting goes.

Recently one of our local TV stations did a piece on a gentleman twice your age who got the Melody Valve. He's having great results and considers the device to be a God-send. Apparently thousands of people worldwide have gotten the valve with generally good results. You're going to have good results as well

Well not going to start a new thread. I have decided on the non invasive valve option as after a conference with my surgeons, it was realised the valve has the same life span as a having another reconstruction. Both have a life span of 10-15yrs, the valve option however is non invasive. So I will only require 1 week off of work with a few trips back to do check ups, rather than months. It is all happening in the next 6wks the docs just have to sort their end out. they need to fly in a guy, have a heart surgeon just incase it all turns to ****. So it all seems good at the moment. Thanks for the well wishes.

I wish you all the very best! It sounds like a far better option having the non-invasive procedure.

I wish you the very best of luck recovering, Spud. Enjoy your time off, as Moin said, doing something you enjoy will help you relax.

Wow, quite a story there spud! Very inspiring! Best of luck to you, your family and your ticker in the coming weeks and hopefully a speedy recovery indeed!

Nice models too! JC's 737-200 looks pretty cool!

Thanks guys. I am looking at my PHX V-Aus next to my JC version and I certainly prefer the PHX colour. If only they could do a complete copy in 1:200 scale.
