Default 1/200 Project Gulf Airways 767 "50th Anniversary" scheme- My holy Grail

Hi Guys

Well another custom project is underway and so far its caused blood to be split...haha read on further. I have waited for the model companies to produce one of my favourite models but to no avail so im going to tackle this one myself!

So its a Gulf Air 767 "50th Anniversary" scheme.

Ok so im using a GJ 200 Hawaiian 767-300 which is a awesome model to use as a donor.... i know i know some will cringe but the end product will be worth it!

Ok so tonight ive pulled apart the model and well it drew blood... yes the injuries you get model making... stupid me just being careless really a wing sliced into my palm of my hand.....

Anyway i will be doing a full custom job on her from full designing of decals, new paintjob, and finishing this is going to be one hard project! Its going to take alot of measuring and testing to get her right on!

SO ONE QUESTION FOR YOU ALL:

Should the engine cowls be painted blue and gold like in one picture OR should the 50th Anniversary logo be on the engines like in the other photo? Refer below:

OR

Anyway heres the beginning of this project!

Looking forward to finishing her BUT i might not get it done before i head off overseas for 5 weeks on Weds.

Enjoy and if you have any questions please email me!

I also forgot to mention that i had started on the decals. Im using a ALPs printer that is able to print Gold silver and white as well as CMYK colours.

I use Adobe Illustrator to create most of my decals and allows me to sive them down to perfect sizing as well as charpening images and allowing me to trace certain logo etc.

Anyway heres a quick screen shot of the work doen so far i still have to size up each design and so on!

enjoy

Go for the blue with gold trim engine. Looks classier.

I like the white engines. They look "classier" and more in keeping with the rest of the color scheme, mainly blue on each end of the aircraft and white in the middle. The blue engines make the color scheme look too disjointed to me.

I agree. I would say do the white ones. I think the white makes the livery flow better.

Absolutely unbelievable that you're taking on this project. I'd go for the white engines as that was the later updated scheme. This will be a true masterpiece.

I would go for the white ones, because it explains the livery.

Al.. I like the white engines also as it blends into the white fuselage in the middle.
Looks like another fantastic piece coming out. I feel my wallet itching again

Well folks further updates.
Today has been a busy day: Ive:

  • Picked the right paint
  • tidying up and finalizing the decals,
  • masking the model,
  • test fitting the decals.
  • Finally painting the blue.I used Tamiyas TS-51 Racing blue
  • Final fitting of decals

I have a little (not so little) reference to help me with this project which i bought from CV a while back a Space models 1/100 scale Gulf air 50th Anniversary model, and i owe him big time....might be a little version coming his back his way

The ALPS printer im using prints gold and i must say the GOLD it prints is AMAZING! The Blue i have used is pretty much spot on! A deep blue which you will see in the photos. You may see areas which are black when they should be gold like near the front of the aircraft BUT dont worry im still working on it itll be gold soon!

Anyway enjoy the photos:

Great work! That has to be perhaps the hardest livery to reproduce at scale.

Hmmm. A 777 from Australian/Oceanic. I'd guess V Australia or Air New Zealand! Since I'm guessing it would be metal then I'd say a Air New Zealand 777-200 since the 777-300 metal mould has not come out yet.
