So Vintage Classic = Mexican Indigestion???

I'm going to guess it's an Aviasca 727.

How about a more specific hint on the classic release GARUDAROD? Saying its a "vintage classic" could be anything from a ford Tri- Motor to a DC-8.

If it's a 727, the possibilities are endless. Since GJ has made so many aircraft in AA, Delta, US Air, and UAL, they are all good possibilities. Imagine a Saul Bass UAL 727 or a Delta Widget. Those would be my top choices if it's a U.S. carrier. There's already been a UA battleship gray done by Herpa Premium, so my guess would be the two I mentioned. No one has done either of them.

A "Battleship Grey" 727 that is affordable, how many collectors want to pay $300 for a model theat is about the same in detail for $50?

I did not realize the UA 727 Herpa Premium was going for that much now. I was very lucky to have picked up one for $175 about 18 months ago. Herpa Premiums have sure gone through the roof on every aircraft - now that I've found this out. You're right - $250 and up on EBay... but no one is buying...

There are two UA 727 Premiums on eBay right now: one for $279.95 and one for $250.00. Both are "Buy-It-Now" only listings from retailers. The retailer price for a Herpa Premium is and always has been pretty high, and even though some retailers still haven't sold there stock of Premiums some 8-10 years after the models were released, most of them won't seem to budge on the price. The UA 727 is still easily found at several different retailers and directly from Herpa. Herpa's price is 180.75 Euros, or roughly 266 USD. But I imagine shipping cost would be fairly high and it might take a while to arrive, so might as well get it from a retailer stateside. That's what I plan on doing soon unless a mint one pops up on eBay.

The thing is, most Premiums sell for a lot less on eBay than Herpa's retail price. The exception to that is any of the 747s and the AA A300, all which are sold out at Herpa and command top dollar on eBay. Here is a perfect illustration of my point: RARE HERPA WINGS PREMIUM EMIRATES A300 1:200 - eBay (item 190344683191 end time Nov-01-09 19:32:12 PST).

That is a mint condition Emirates A300 for a Buy-It-Now price of only $155, from a reputable eBayer. I am very tempted to get it, but think I will pass, as the only Premium A300 that I really want is the American.

All that said, on the whole, Premiums aren't really that great of a value dollar for dollar. But at the time of their initial release 10 years ago, these models were top notch. Gemini200, Jet-X, etc. weren't around to offer a model 90% as nice for 20% of the cost...

My pipe dream for the 1:200 hobby world is for Herpa to relaunch the Premium line in full-force, with new moulds and a steady stream of new releases (2 a month sounds about right), for about half the cost of the initial line in order to compete with Inflight, Gemini, and all the rest. Who's with me on that?

Ah right, they only operate the A318/319/320.

The "Vintage Classic" is not a B727. It will be an aircraft featuring a delivery scheme
from the 60's.

assuming its not a new mould, that leaves the JS-11 or the DC-9 as the only moulds that dates back to the 60s

Given the molds that GJ is using, a Northwest DC-9 makes sense... I still hope they do some vintage 727s soon... There are so many liveries available that would be big sellers - U.S. market, South American, Asian, and European.

If a YS-11 then perhaps Piedmont delivery or Hawaiian. If a DC-9 then maybe Continental Golden Jet, Allegheny, Ozark, Southern, Aeromexico, Bonanza and the list seems to have no end. My crystal ball is cloudy, but I'll guess Ozark based on it became Northwest which became Delta... But then again GJ shares the 727 with Jet X and Jet X has the 737-200.

He stated that the airplane features delivery colors from the 60s. But does that also mean that the plane itself is also from the 60s? Both Austrian and finnair operate an Airbus in retro colors. So still hoping :-)

O.K. It's a DC-9-10... There are certainly a nice number of carriers that used this aircraft in the 1960s... Unless GJ has come up with a DC-8-10/20/50 etc... THAT would be very nice indeed. The Herpa version is fair at best - tail is wrong, wings have little detail, etc...

A good quality DC-8 from the 60s would be a great addition to the diecast world.

With all the mold sharing going on, nothing would surprise me. There's still that comment made by Russell long ago about a 4-holer coming... Could it be a DC-8? A DC-10 would be great though... How about BOTH!?

How about a DC-9-15 in that retro-riffic Golden Jet livery?

Actually that would be cool. I dont know what it is but that is one of my all time favorite colors the polished fuselage with the brownish stripe. Most would say its ugly but it brings back so many memories of growin up. That long with AA, UA, and TW.
