Default Hogan 787 NWA

I want to buy this Boeing 787 Northwest, but I doubt if I'm going to like the color. I saw a pic of this model taken by a member of this forum and the color seemed quite 'glittery'.

The color seems normal on this photo..

.. so my question is: is the color glittery or not?

I have it and it's not glittery. The color looks accurate - more so than GJ any way. However, the wing flex is obscene. I do not like the model. The Phoenix 787's are WAY better and of course have more details. The Qantas is awesome.

The Phoenix models display the aircraft as it would look on the ground. Hogans 787 have the wings flexed as they would be in flight. I think Hogan makes one 787 model with gear and the wings are much flatter, like it would look on the ground

This is the pic I was talking about. The color looks weird and has a glitter effect. It's totally inaccurate.

So your 787 NWA does not have this color Delta_757?

I think a lot of models appear "glittery" because of the flash of their camera. If you take a picture of the same model without a flash then it usually looks a lot better.

What jumps out at me is not the silver paint, but the solid white engines on the 787. Wonder why they didn't get painted silver as the rest of the fleet.

Silver engines would look a lot better. Maybe NWA wanted white engines on the 787, but on official Boeing photos the engines are silver.

No, I did not ask you if I could use your pic.

I don't see the problem of using other people's pics for a thread like this. That pic isn't exclusive or something.

I'll remove it if it's necessary..

What do you think of your 787 NWA, 1:200Freak? Nothing weird about it?

The only weird thing is that I won't be seeing it in those colours...It's a gorgeous model and the only 787 I have. Hogan has never got the NW colours right..however if it is what you must have, then get it.

GJ didn't get it right either - they are more off in my opinion. I would not buy this model though, the wing flex is far too extreme.

No, none of my NWA's are glittery. If you look at pics of any of them (Hogan, IF or GJ) they can all look glittery due to light, flash, etc. However, in person, none of them look glittery at all.

Oh..wait. Are the engines supposed to white? Because all the others have their engines painted the color of the fuselage.

But I guess its alright since it doesn't even exist in reality.

Why no InFlight DC-9? The color on this model is more accurate than GJ or Hogan!

The 787 wings ARE quite flexed in flight. The tips are well above the top of fuselage, perhaps 4-6 feet. On the ground in static (unfueled?) position, they are about 4 ft. below the top of fuselage. I tried to flatten the wings of the Hogan I have by heating and
clamping to a form, but it didn't work out...yet. Still experimenting. Nacelles are in the way.

Hi Guy's, I do not have the Hogan NWA 787, but I do have the Herpa version in 1/200, thought you might be able to compare the two. To me the wing's on the herpa do not look so high as the Hogan, only thing I do not like about either of the model's are the engine's and wing's being white, I think my GJ 1/400 is more realistic with the engine's matching the rest of the frame Stevec...

Steve, nice photos. Herpa has made a beautiful looking mould. The wings look much better "un-rotated" with their flatter attitude. I think Boeing has done a great job designing this new airliner, hopefully it will fly soon.
As for the white color placment.. agree, a bit odd. Almost as if the engines, wings and elevators were taken from a common parts bin.

I agree that the Herpa 1:200 appears correct, or very close to it, for a static, on-ground 787. The Hogan 1:200 which I have appears to have wings molded in the quite flexed, in-flight position. I just couldn't afford the Herpa...

I agree that straight wings are nice and more accurate. But I have 5 Hogan 787s now, all with flexed wings and those 10 flexed wings on my shelf are way more impressive than my models with normal wings.

Yeah, but the flex isn't even as close to being accurate in an in flight postion. There's no way the wings will flex like that. It's obscene the way those Hogan wings flex, and I disagree - ugly, toyish and unimpressive. I didn't even take the time to box up my Hogan NWA 787 - I just tossed in a junk chest....without any concern as to what happens to it. Hogan (aside from the MD-11) are not worth it IMO - no antenna, no details, toyish - the 787 is by far the worst Hogan model IMO. The Phoenix is a million times better, even though it's wings are in an in flight position (the correct in flight position).
