Default My FIRST plane collection is Singapore Airlines A380 1:200

Hey all !! I'm new here and this is my first post ! I'm also new to the plane collection So do guide me along Thanks !!

Ok I bought Singapore Airlines A380 from Krisshop for S$79 and yet they still charge another S$25 for local delivery charge. That's kind of expensive. How come most retailers do not provide self-collections ? Mmm anyway, the Airbus I bought is Hogan from Krisshop. It's beautiful to me because it's my FIRST plane BUT there is a little orange line just beside the nose-wheel. Was thinking of changing it but I still need to wait and wait for the new set. Alright let me post all the pictures I took for you all to see. Hope you are enjoy it ! Sorry for the poor image as I use my 7390 -.- Thanks and appreciate any comments

It's a very nice model. Welcome to the money-sucking cesspit of doom that is airplane collecting! And welcome to the forums!

Does Hogan now include rubber gears with its models? My last A340 came with the plastic ones.

welcome!

and that is an awesome model to start your collection off with. i have it too! hogan took their already awesome a380 mold and made it even better through the added details like purple exhaust cones =). you might want to shrink down your pics...not everyone has a widescreen monitor hehe.

nice model, I have the Qantas one, I still think the a380 is ugly but the hogan models are nice.

All the new hogan stuff comes with rubber wheels.

I prefer the hogan rubber wheels.
Let's hope that the rubber wheels of the A 380 also sold separately.
Then you can even equipped the older models with new wheels.
This also applies to the wheels of the MD11.
The first Lufthansa MD11 has also the old wheels.
In the latest version of the MD11 the rubber wheels are already included.

Finding the spare HG A380 gears is not easy. I too prefer the old metal wheels. I like the detailed printing of the wheel hubs and there was something about it that made it better than the current offering. Even still, they're better than the ones SM/RS are currently using. I removed those ones from my RS EK A380 and added the HG rubber tires and the model is so much better.

Most HG models seem to come with gears included. Don't think I have seen a model with out them. I'm not into playing with my models so how they roll dosn't bother me. All I know is rubber looks better to me.

I just begun collecting too, I $ee what you mean.

Saturday I received my second model and second A380, my first one was the A380 in house colors and now the Qantas A380 both HG. I am kind of disappointed with the Qantas, the paint looks very scratched everywhere and in some parts it looks inconsistent with red overlapping, there was a big black mark in the white fuselage on top, forward of the fin, very visible. I decided to try to take that off and the liquid I used ate the paint, so it was worse, I then tried to paint over with glossy spray paint for plastic models and did not work either so I had to sand this section. Now she has a 1 1/2 inch by 3/4 inch section sanded of, neatly but not good for my eyes. The paint also seems to have yellowed out since it doesn't look pure white. Is there anything I can do to fix this, any paint or something like a sticker? My other A380 is so perfect and this one is not, has this happened to any of you guys?

Here's two pictures:

OMG, that red paint job is nasty! Did it actually come looking like that?? Thats bad. Had my model looked like that, I would have returned it asap.

Actually that white area on top of the model adds a touch of realism to the model. It could pass off as part of the roof panel!

But he can't get a refund now, after he's sanded and painted it. But gosh, that red looks horrible. It almost looks as though it was painted properly then someone at the factory took a paintbrush to it.

I have actually been considering buying a model of the A380 (even though I dislike them) but have yet to see a livery I like.

I cannot believe this....Moin never wanted an A380 but got one, and now you are planning on getting one too.

Yes, the red came that way, and I agree it might have been touched up at the factory since there are also little speckles of white paint over the glossy white as well. The second picture shows the section I had to sand off, I'll probably put a white, thin sticker over it and later I'll just have to get a new one since I really love the Qantas A380 and I am a very picky with these things.

My A380 in house colors is beautiful, I would recommend that one and has no visible defects whatsoever.

and what liquid did you use to do that? acetone? acetone will eat anything away!
rubbing alcohol should be the best alternative. i use that to take off any scuff marks when i make my models and it works like a charm without damaging anything

if you dont want your qantas ill buy it off of you for cheap as i need an a380 mold for my projects.

I used rubbing alcohol since that is what I use to take marks off plastics, but I ended up using paint thinner for the paint I had added and didn't do anything bad to it. I cleaned it up a bid and will try to paint the section again with a paint called Tamiya so I might keep the model after all, unless I can find a cheap one.

I can very well imagine that this is a big disappointment for you.
Unfortunately, I have the same experience.
This is the reason why I always look first in the box before I buy the model.
I have the feeling that this becomes nowadays more common.

Welcome to the hobby! The Singapore A380 was also one of my first ones, and I also bought it from the Krishop except I was in flight when I purchased it. That and mine wasn't made by Herpa. After seeing your pictures, I may pick up one or two the next time I fly SQ.

Enjoy this hobby. It can be fun (and expensive)!!

Great start for a collection, congrats.
Does your A380 have a registration on the fuselage, I didn't see it ?

A380 was also my first forte into the 1/200 world, but mine is a skymarks SQ concept version. May not be entirely accurate, but great model.

I don't even bother to look for those shops. Just saw a 1:400 A380 at Changi T2 going for like $140 and I say to myself, ok I'm not going to bother to look here again. Just started collecting about 2 yrs ago, get my stuff at SQ KrisShop or overseas.
