Default Eastern Airlines B747-121 N735PA; My 43rd B747!

Hello people of DA.C.

It has been a long while that something new came from me, that is something I'd gladly admit and how to put this well it's been a long 2 months before I decided to get back to it after a less great of an experience and I know it can happen to everyone that does this hobby but still worth noting and showing what my experience was and how I did manage to get about it and get things repaired thanks to 30 years of f aircraft modeling myself.

And yea where to start you might think, well lets go 2 months back and start from there on.
So 2 months back I went looking for my 43rd diecast scale 1:200 Boeing 747 model and since I wanted to do something in dedication to all the classic livery lovers of DA.C, of my Aircraft Model Collecting Community and as well as my Boeing 747 Community, I thought to go to a time that was before the Oil Crisis from 1973, tot he years 1970 a 1972.

Since there were a few DA.C members posting their lovely looking Eastern Airlines B727's I thought well I am very sure they had a Boeing 747 at some time right and they did

They hired it from Pan American World Airways from 1971 to 1972 it was a short 1 year run the pilots were in love with it but for the routs they flew with it it was never a full aircraft, when the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar came out just after 1972 they ended the lease with pan Am for their B747-121's and went onward with their TriStars as I understood it though, feel free to correct me all good with that.

So I googled it up and Gemini Jets released one in 2018 and well I started looking for this model and found out that Aviation Mega Store had two, so I bought one, but when it arrived it wasn't the image or result I hoped for, here the photo's:

The box seemed fine:

But the insides revealed the shocking damaged model:

As you can see it was in parts wing tips were bent, tail fin was disassembled an easy fix for sure but seeing the chipped off paint and the tail also caused some deep tiny craters to where pain layers were chipped off from transportation I made contact with Aviation Mega Store and they happily refunded me as the other Eastern B741 they had was also damaged.

After sending it back I was neatly refunded so as service goes they did a good job all by the book

So yea after that I took a long break from it all the will to go on had left me fro sometime, 2 months later I found the same model at Scale Model Store in Harlem, The Netherlands, which is close to Amsterdam, they also had two in stock and I thought I try my chances again, as I really wanted an Eastern B747-121, I just never gave up looking for one and this one yea this was a similar experience that ended with a far better outcome, so hereby I'll show you how I managed to repair it in to new state <3

The Box gave me a familiar memory hoping this will be a better one.

And it did give me better hopes even I was shocked for a moment, but I took my time with it and observed it carefully, the tail wasn't dismantled so that's good, I then carefully put it together without glue and this gave me hopes to fix this epic beauty and make her whole again.

And here it took it's shape alright, deep down I knew I could fix this one and make it new again , ans so I just jumped in with both feet and took on the task.

After that I decided to start gluing it together with Pattex 100% Repair Gel which is good for gluing metal on metal and it doesn't give me issues like I have with super glue like buring eyes or odd skin burns, just can't stand the fumes so I took something else it takes 10 mins to harden but the rules was more than promising.

The model being reviewed is this beauty:

Boeing 747-121 (Leased from Pan Am 1971-1972)
Eastern Airlines "Hockey Stick Livery"
N735PA (Clipper Young America)
Scale 1:200
Gemini Jets 200

Here the photo's of the model:

Just love this livery the simple yet memorable look, the teal blue and dark navy blue cheatlines forming the Hockey Stick effect as it runs right up the tail fin
It's just nice and a damn shame we won't see such epic liveries again.

Here a nice closeup of the head, it seems my repairs surely worked out well.
Yet so i was very nervous to be honest, but so satisfied it turned out this well.

Here some top shots of this beauty, also note the two blinded windows on the right:

Here a closeup from the other side showing that two of the 3 upper deck windows are blinded, the epic EASTERN logo on it as well

Here some left side shots, even today this livery would really be a nice thing to see

Here from the left rear side all clean here too, just love this model and I think in time I'll grow very attached to it.

And here the rear views:

And top view with belly views, always love adding these:

Here the stand shots I made, just to bring this model in a different perspective if inflight with gear down.
Just love this livery from every angle, classic liveries are surely amazing tbh.

This was the most damaged side and now look, it's almost spotless!
So happy with this model, despite all the work and troubles I had to go through, it was worth it!

The epic EASTERN logo here up close and the upper deck blinded window details, Gemini Jets did get that right, always a nice thing to see!

Here two nice rear angled shots from the rear left side:

Here the Final Display:

And there you have it, quite the ride but a very worthy one I too learned from, every model can end up like this Gemini jets, JC Wings, Inflight 200 or many others, but even being a review I am glad I did point out what I went through, not one model is perfect and this topic proves that but with some nice repair & modeling skills you can get very far and bring the model back to it's normal new state.
And it's just a pleasant model to have despite the troubles I had to go through, it was all worth it to the very end

As songs go these two surely fit that timeline:

ERIC BURDON & WAR: Mother Earth (1970)

Eric Burdon & War - Sun & Moon (1970)

It took some effort to get this beautiful plane in your collection, but worth the effort. It sure is a nice plane and indeed the perfect classic to own. Nice pics btw.

Oh yea and thanks man

This was really worth it indeed, despite the stress it gave me at start two months back.
So I just looked back and I was like; well with 30 years of aircraft modeling experience time to put that in to good use, having arthritis in my hands and shaky as hell, but yea I was surprised it worked out this well, it could of gone bad as well, but then again I did take my time and yea really satisfied with the result making this model awesome once again like it should be

Nice planes deserve some good hangar space. Good luck with your shelves. Give us a tour when they are done.

Hmm I'll do this after I get my 44th B747 in November which will be the final part for Chapter 04 of this Boeing 747 collection.

Slowly but surely I will find a way to manage this set.
