Default The Qantas story from 1920-2021 in models

Since Covid-19, there was no need to have a spare bedroom in the house which lead to a real estate grab for my collection. To be honest, the spare bed room was rarely used before that anyway. It is now my model room, and the big move was completed last weekend. I painted it sky blue, which I choose, it was very risky, but was chosen to make the models stand out. I was unsure, but now I think it works.

There are three photographs, however, my photos really don't do the collection justice, so I have made my first YouTube video for you to enjoy.

My Qantas collection starts at the beginning with a surplus World war one Avro 504K Biplane which was Qantas first aircraft right up to the 2020-2021 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner's. All models are diecast with the exception of the 3 x Herpa A300-B4 aircraft you will see of VH-TAA with the three liveries she wore, Herpa Yananyi Dreaming 737-838 and the other plastic is a 747-238SCD (orange cheatline) not on stand all of which we hope to have in diecast one day. There are no duplicated models here, everyone of them is different rego. This video also includes TAA & Australian Airlines which Qantas acquired. Also the few Jetstar models that have been released which is Qantas low cost budget carrier airline.

Special thanks to Gemini200, JC Wings, Hogan, Herpa and Inflight200 and Western models/Aero classics for making my collection what is today.

My very first YouTube video ---> 1:200 Qantas collection

Thumbs up Re: The Qantas story from 1920-2021 in models

Beautiful Steve... just beautiful

PS: Nice video (but I didn't found the recent JCWINGS Dash8-Q400 QantasLink "Recognise.org.au Livery" VH-LQM and also the A321 freigther… Maybe these models haven't been released yet in Down-under)

Looks great! I chose a sky blue for my previous model room as well and it worked really well.

Very nice mate!!! The only one I can see missing is a Qantas A330-300 in the delivery scheme? Do you have one of these or did I miss it?
Not even sure if one of these has been made in 1/200.

Great collection and very dust free shelves! You need a hybrid BA/QF VH-NLH

Thanks Marten,

The A321P2F is on the second shelf from the bottom right cabinet, however, it in the back corner. Thanks for pointing out you cant see it too well I should have grouped it with the other two QF freighters so I will fix. Thank you. I am still waiting on JCW Dash 8Q-400 Recognise to arrive along with Inflight200 IF742QF0721P VH-EBM America's cup 1983 challenge of Perth WA, IF707QFAEAIP VH-EAI a707-338 and of course the yet to be released IF701QF120P VH-707-138 in the experimental livery which was ditched after arrival in favour of V-jet.

Regarding the Inflight200 IF742QF0721P VH-EBM America's cup 1983 challenge of Perth, this plane is also on my list as I brought from my two-days-trip to Perth from the local Maritime Museum store a little “Boxing Kangaroo” as a present for my son back home 👍

Awesome "Skippy" collection. Good to see them displayed together.
From the overall view, its a large investment.
Do you or have you thought about insuring your collection?

That is a great question Randy. I love them all I have even flown on some of them like Wunala I which kind of was impressive. However, to answer your question The Short S.23C Flying Boat really is special. This aircraft appeals to me as a majestic way to travel. In between wars unfortunately. But there you go. Seaplanes have always inspired me.

Back to the forum with a new MacBook, I have really enjoyed seeing your pictures and your video.

Fantastic collection starting with the little Avro and very interesting Propliners.
I like the three Hogan A 300s.

Many thanks Steve.

Thank you very much everyone. My first Video too. I got a Google nest mini and placed it in between the two display cabinets. (I used to have these cabinets side by side in the study) however there is a power point in the new room between the two cabinets, if I choose to get the fitted pelmets with fitted lighting. Anyhow back to the video, I asked Google "hey google play classical music". Google picked the free station streaming classical music while I recorded the models. I had no idea how long the song was going to be and the other problem was how big can the file be to up load onto YouTube.

The panning from left to right started a bit quick but then I slowed it down. The purpose being oldest in the fleet from left to right. Then there are two dash 8's pre 2007 on the wrong shelf and the poorly positioned A321P2F shoved in the corner behind a Dreamliner and you can barely see it. Maybe, I can update the video at the end of 2022 with any new models that come. I am looking forward to the new tooling De Havilland Twin Otter in Qantas Sunstate colours, Australian and before that TAA. Hopefully GJ or JCW will do some classics 747-238 with RR RB211's with the orange VH-EBQ, through to VH-EBS or even some 747-338 stand fleet colours 75th anniversary logos welcome too. manufacturers know the dates!

Glad people enjoyed the Qantas story in 1:200 models. On a 1:1 note Qantas commenced yesterday, scheduled international flights for the first time in two years, since the Federal government open the international boarders. Come down for a hot summer holiday guys.
