Default Herpa El Al 707

Total disaster. Titles are so wrong in color. This model will have many returns to retailers and gather lots of dust. Such a shame as it's my holy grail.

This must be a different registration then?

https://www.airliners.net/photo/El-A...0BbWQulw%3D%3D

This shows the right registration. Herpa's website shows the model correctly.

You have a 707-358 and a 707-458. 2 different aircraft. Herpa messed it up badly. They even photoshopped their pic horribly.

If the registration is 4X-TAT than this model is correct..there is no error with colors of titles...

I still think the latin titles “EL AL” and the logo should be black (or dark blue just like the rear portion of the cabin stripe) instead of blue, plus the blue and dark blue two-tone cabin stripe is hardly visible the above photos; original Herpa product photos have a better lighting and do reflect a correct two tone scheme, though.

First of all, it's 4X-ATA not TAT, but I'll let you off on the typo.

But the colors are totally wrong. LY titles were only black and gold in 1978. The model is blue and gold. Their box art is photoshopped from the pic I posted above which the original doesn't even have the 30th anniversay logo. Herpa added the logo and reversed the black and gold letters. This model is a total failure and will be gathering alot of dust on retailer's shelves.

yes it was a typo, but I am still confused. If you do a google search of 4X ATA the photos in most cases appear blue, but I am no expert and based on light it may be black. Now I know I am not the sharpest blade in the razor section but I think its how you percieve the color and Im with Herpa based on photos it looks blue. However your knowledge dictates otherwise!

LY always had black and gold titles during the 707 era. Inflight and Aeroclassics did it spot on. I can't believe Herpa dropped the ball on this so badly. Even the box art is hideous.

Well, based on the facts given, I personally have no doubt he is correct. I already smelled there was a difference between the blue/black and golden titles and later versions for the 30th or 40th anniversary, but I’m not that much into EL AL that I would have known them.

Thanks for the info, ELY707.

They are black.
Black on white can be tricky to see in (digital) reference. There's plenty of examples for color letters on models where the real thing is just black on white. Blue IATA logos on SAA or the recent Aeroclassics BA 721 comes to mind while this EL AL example is more obvious IMO.

I blame it on camera's chromatic abberation and purple fringing. Digital image post-processing (re-sizing, de-noising and jpg compressing) do their best to turn clean black/white objects into color.
Always prefer a good Kodachrome or similar over a compressed jpeg via Airliners.net etc.

Thanks for your reply. I'm attaching a pic of the box art. Compare it to the original pic in post #3 above.

Maybe the Herpa design team had this playing in the background while doing the graphics: https://www.google.com/search?client...OwQri56BAgYEAQ
