Default INFLIGHT LE British Caledonian DC 10 G-BHDJ

Won this rare model off ebay under £100 posted. these were made by Martin Beacom, before he changed name to SMALLWORLD. not many of these were made and were decalled. still in great nick after some nearly 20 years. some minor decal loss around stabs. but still a beaut model! UKJOHNA also has one of these.

snowghost, KLM4me and CdnAir like this.

Beautiful model! That 4th shot with the tires pitched looks like a tractor! Anyway to adjust those or are they fixed?

Sir Adam Thomson’s legacy lives on… plenty of tractors at Prestwick in the mid-80s!!

Appreciate that. but back then as is the case NOW, if you wanted a custom model then it will always be decals. .

Inflight LE has never been my cup of tea. They came when nobody really expected that rather 'rare' airline-aircraft-combos would ever be done. Now, 15 to 20 years on - see what's been coming off the various 1/200 brands. Great hobby!

The LE models were very expensive. They almost looked blurry, almost squashy to me, and I did not really like them. The fact that the decals come off is another point (probably as a result of detaching the horizontal stabs? (it should not happen otherwise since the surface was clear coated, I assume)).

Nice piece of 1/200 history, though. As of today, I would always prefer the regular production release, of course.

blurry and squashed Madrista???????? not seen any like that in my time. as for decals, ones above are still very good after nearly 20 years! yes they were expensive. but ALL CUSTOMS are! and Martin at smallworld guarantees his decals for 10 years against peeling etc.

Actually, Robert, you just need to look at the pictures above in order to see what I mean with ‚blurry‘. It’s probably caused by the decals and the the clear coat (if clear-coated, which is what I suspect). The corners and edges aren’t as sharp as the printed ones, it’s a visual effect. To my mind, they are clearly different to the regular production models in this respect.

And, yes, they were limited and custom-made/handcrafted (in a certain way). Great idea back then - I just decided to judge myself if I like them so much that I‘d pay a royal fee to get them. And the judgement was ‚no‘. That’s all I said.
