Default 747 Tribute Tails...for your enjoyment.

...I continue with my project to show what some of my favorite BA "World Tails" would have looked like on 747s had the Utopia project lasted longer. Following on from the recent L'esprit Liberté project, here is a completed Flowers of Mazowsze Tail representing Poland. In real life, this tail only flew on a single 737-300 (G-OGBC) but I think it would have looked great on the 747. Donor model was yet another Inflight200 Rendezvous model.

Also shown, but not completed is Grand Union, representing England with designs from the Canal of the same name. This tail flew on a couple of 737s, a 757 and an E-145. The basic design is the same, but the decals shrank more than I expected, and I need to redo them. Donor model was a (BlueBox?) Nalanji Dreaming model.

[EDIT - this probably should be in the custom section... please feel free to move]

Very nice work John, I especially like the ‘Flowers of Mazowsze‘ but ‘Grand Union’ looks good too.

I agree. I don't know why BA did not use it more. It first appeared in 1999 as far as I can tell, which was relatively late. AFAIK the last of the "newly applied" tails was in the spring of 2020. Perhaps if it had been used earlier, it would have made it to more of the fleet.

I made a copy of the 737 back in 2016, but now that I have Photoshop and better skills, I think that this needs redoing.

Wow! The title of this thread has been changed just because one member complained about it without knowing the historical facts.

Keep up the good work, ukjohna. I hope you get an apology from this bloke.

OK Ill cut through the chase, I was asked by the thread starter and a few others to clean up the thread .

For those that don't know history, I believe Margaret Thatcher at the time she was P.M. of England made some negative remarks that the world tails did not represent the U.K. properly.

If anyone wants to comment further, please do so without any comments that some will find that are offensive. Save that for me as I am the most offensive one on this forum.

Real tomato ketchup Eddie?
Nothing but the best! "I don't know why they call this stuff hamburger helper. It does just fine by itself, huh? I like it better than tuna helper myself, don't you, Clark?"

Thanks for the clarification, crownvic.

At the time in 1997 ex PM Margaret Thatcher covered the tail of a model with a piece of tissue and said "We fly the British flag not these awful things."

As you probably know, I adore airplanes with default livery and just a special tail (I refer to the PIA Province tails).
I htink you did a wonderful job on these ones.
I hope to see more of this magnificent creativity from you in the future.

Cheers, Deephalo

Why didn't I see this thread yet!
Very nice pair of BA B747-436's there ukjohna, love their tail arts!
But damn, wouldn't it be awesome to see a full body art with those patterns?

Still an amazing sight though, they add a very majestic touch

Another one joined the collection this week. Here is "Market Day" - representing Saudi Arabia. Donor model was the usual IF Rendezvous.

Superb decals in this case provided by fellow member mattyflyer who created them for his own use but was kind enough to share.

Market Day was only used in real life on the EMB and 737 so here is the full set:

I still need to decide on a registration for this one, but that can wait till I get more decal paper.
