Default Human hair and debris under decals-discuss

Well after giving up my perfectly great JCW 747-8 to a friend that wanted my copy, I was lead to believe with the JCW Children's drawing would be just as good. Is this a case of decals applied very badly? Even a human hair on window three upperdeck

Oh. That is certainly not appealing to any collector.

That is very ugly indeed. I was interested in this model, ... not any more.

And also I was really in the opinion that everything was tampo printed nowadays, it least for the most important brands...

Not good at all. A ‘returner’ if there ever was one.

Bummer. Sorry to see that. I hope JC will stick to tampo printing. While not as noticeable
as this 748, I noticed this sort of finish on 1/400 777's from Phoenix many years ago.

I wish there was a way in this hobby to legitimately return a model directly to manufacturer, for an exchange.

I also wish that model descriptions came with info on whether the finish is tampo, decal, etc. Right now, the only way to truly be sure about finish is to go to a classic brick and mortar shop, which are woefully and sadly very rare, and view the actual model yourself.

Did they use decals because they're less expensive than tampo printing?

That's a shame Steve. You must be disappointed, can you get it changed?

That's shocking on so many levels. First, the yuck factor with the hair - that alone is reason enough to return the model.

As to the decals, I am very surprised. I thought as one the better reputed manufacturers JC Wings would be using tampo printing only. I know that Gemini have claimed that they only use "computer printing" on their models which I take to mean tampo printing, and since JCW are often the factory Gemini uses I was until now sure that JCW's own branded releases were tampo only.

I completely agree with flight8841 in wishing that model information on the box itself (and all sales material) included basic facts about whether decals are used, or whether all-tampo. I really dislike decals and hearing about crap like this 747-8 makes me want to avoid JC Wings in the future unless they clearly state the decal count on all their releases. Such transparency would at least help to ensure that any JC Wings model I buy would be decal-free even if some of their other releases have decals. Its all about the manufacturer being honest and open about such important details, which sadly they often hide.

Thumbs down Re: Human hair and debris under decals-discuss

Sadly JCWINGS has done many models in this way

To name a few:

Both B747-400s AIR NEW ZEALAND "LOTR" + B767 and A320 "LOTR"
B747-400 QANTAS "Olympic"
B747-300 CORSAIR
B747-300 PIA
B747-300 ORIENT THAI
A350 ETHOPIAN
A350 AIR CHINA "Expo 2019"

Interesting is the B747-8F CARGOLUX "Cut away" which was first released
with decals (the one with wooden stand) and later released perfectly printed (now with metal stand)

Thanks guys for your contribution. Yes to be honest not a problem to help out a very great buddy of mine at all. What does disappoint me, is just how bad this model is to me. I haven't even shown you the rest of the model because I want to draw your attention to the decals. Can any of you see trapped air pockets under the clear coat finish ?

Randy I expect JCW has invested in a decal company in China, they may even own it I expect. not every thing can be tampo printed and I understand that. This livery may be too complicated to reproduce on computer. I don't know.

What I do know is I can't return it and resell landfill.

appaling to see such a thing from a big company like jc wings. if it was a custom models using mostly decals and not tampo prints, would be relatively more acceptable

Is the whole side of the model with doors, windows, Korean Air just one big decal?

As I mentioned before, this is nothing new from JCWINGS and was done on several models before over a long period.

This is very interesting to see because the equivalent model by JC Wings in 1:400 is tampo printed. I wonder what led to JC to use decals for the larger 1:200 model while tampo printing the smaller 1:400...

Happy collecting!

I don't see the hair!? I see paint bubbles!

...anyway if it has hair this is the Chia Plane edition and the more you display it, the more hair grows! A grow light helps as well!

JC is known for replicating aircraft that are decaled in real life to the model. The 1:400 Virgin Atlantic Star Wars was an example of this. It just looks like your model suffered horrible quality control, but other than that JC's use of decals for decals that exist in real life are a nice touch.

Well on these models normally EVERYTHING is done with a single decal… the doors, the windows and so on…

Exceptional was the CARGOLUX “Cut away”, where you could identify several decals…

BTW it would be interesting to know how JCWINGS is doing this in their factory as I could imagine that it must be a difficult process to get such a “100% decal” perfectly on a model… may be someone here has seen this ???
