Exclamation

This is a very special release for me, as I take care of its 1:1 version

This former SWISSAIR plane is now part of our BERLIN AIRLIFT monument at our airport, for which I am responsible.

Therefore I also take care of the two aircrafts there including this former SWISSAIR “Unterwalden”.

I have a lot of stories to tell about the monument and its planes, but regarding the DC-4 it was always a great honor for me to welcome the Candy Bomber pilot Gail Halverson (now 100 years old)

Nevertheless in 2018, after the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Berlin Airlift, it was also a great honor for me to show Cap. O’Brien, member of the Board of Ryanair, his old aircraft, when he was flying it during its last active days as a freighter based in Malta.

PS: A nice articel about "The Long life of the "Unterwalden" could be found here (starting at page 32):

Martin, very nice that you take care of the Airlift monument at FRA. I was there one time when I stayed in the Intercity Hotel nearby. I walked to the spotters location and passed the monument and made some pictures of the DC-4 and DC-3 (C-47).
Keep up the good and honourable work you do.
After the corona restrictions subside, I want to visit FRA again. Maybe I can meet you then.

Is this Herpa Swissair DC-4 still available or has it been sold out?

I ordered mine from Aviation Retail Direct (ARD) in England, and their ancient website which they can’t be bothered to update, says available for “pre-order”. This usually means “sold out and we don’t give a damn about your pre-order” as far as ARD are concerned.

I am also waiting impatiently for it.
In all the webshops where I usually buy my metal goodies (Netherlands and Germany) this model is still listed as pre-order.
I also placed a notification request with my regular model aircraft supplier about its availability (I rarely or never do pre-orders) and I have not yet received a message from him.
It is certainly not sold out. I think they are a bit behind in their planning at Herpa...

The moment I get a notification, I will put it in this thread, at least you will know something about how things are moving.

Cheers, Deephalo

Well, on the pictures you see of course the two pilots I was talking about…

Regarding the model, I got it directly from HERPA as I work very close with them.

It is not officially out but it is nearly sold out at HERPA to their retailers.

These Herpa DC 4s are fantastically good and are worth collecting, despite my very strict collecting criteria, I have a few of them, including of course the AF model.

Long time ago, I bought a WM Swissair DC 4 with the original bare aluminium livery.
It cannot be compared to today's standards but I love it.
Just an opportunity to share a picture.

Jean Pierre.

I visited the original aircraft yesterday - sorry for being a bit off topic. It’s a neat little place between the new air cargo area and the highway - but worth a visit.
