Thanks for sharing the pics! It will be interesting to see what people pay for them on Ebay going forward. I wonder if they will reach what the Mustard Rocket was/is going for!?

I personally hope very little. I think it’s pretty cruddy when people buy these things just in the hopes that they can gouge someone 30 days later.

It amazes me how yellow this model (and the 1:400 version) look compared to the actual aircraft. In this video, the actual aircraft appears more gold than yellow, depending on lighting.

Great livery, great model.

That makes me think that a B 727 made from the best existing model with the flaps down would be highly successful.

I have the model too (and the 1:400 version). Inexcusable that a 1:200 model has the complete wrong color. These past few months of Gemini are really starting to show their lack of care in QC and overlooking how things are made.

Re: G2SWA961F B737-700 Southwest Airlines 'Classic

I just received the model today and I have to say that it's not that bad when I see it in person. And the only comparisons I have are photos and video, which sometimes do not represent color 100% correctly. For example, look at some of the photos in this thread:

https://i.imgur.com/4AQJxWIl.png

And there are even differences in photographs of the actual aircraft:

https://i.imgur.com/cOQMMWXl.png

For some reason, the southwest colors are very difficult to solidly capture. My assumption here is that it depends on the camera, lighting, angle of the sun, shade, saturation, exposure, etc etc. as you can clearly see in the comparisons above.

So I would posit that whether or not the colors are "correct" is in the eye of the beholder, and when I am the beholder, I think they look ok. Other "beholders" can disagree and that is also ok.

I would challenge that, since the colors are very distinct and change under lighting conditions, if we really want to confirm whether the model matches, someone should take their gemini model and stand right next to the real aircraft, and get both in the same photo with the same lighting. Then we'll really have our answer

Can someone explain me why this is the case with this particular model?
Is it just because it is classic?
Being from Europe, I don't know South West that well, so it is hard for me to guess why it was selling so quickly...

That's just the way it is. Same for United, American, Delta... I suppose a lot of US people feel nostalgic about it because they flew in these planes...The only people that would bid crazy high price for them are the ones from US

I don't think it's correct because the vast majority of photos of N714CB show it as a brown/gold color and not having any yellow hues in it at all. Is it minor? Maybe, but should color really be an issue if you are paying a premium for these 1:200s?

I don't understand why Southwest sells so well, either. I've not flown them in years. The last time I did, they offered seats that faced each other. I know they did away with that a long time ago. And I didn't care for the boarding process, either. That may have changed. As for their livery, I don't like the current one at all and haven't liked any of their special "states" liveries. Dreadful. I like the previous liveries a lot, though. The above said, I understand they're a good airline with a loyal customer base and they're in the top 5 largest airlines in the World (by passengers & revenue).

When the colour covers the vast majority of the fuselage, then I don't think it's a minor issue and yes, IMO it should be an issue when paying a premium for a model.

Its probably because they are colorful and not the boring eurowhite a number of airlines have today! Also nostalgia.

From the one picture above, Gemini I guess didn't get it right as the front of the engine cowling is faded/different color than the rest (kidding of course)

Hell, when I used to fly on United all the time they would piece together their planes so much sometimes the nose and other parts were 2 different liveries!

I can live with the color and happy to have it in my collection...now the first release IF200 "root beer" Mexicana DC-10, that is a different story!LOL

It’s more yellow than it is gold or brown. It’s closer to the New Mexico SWA livery than anything from the 80s/90s aircraft. It truly looks like a mix of yellow mustard and brown mustard, and ever so slightly metallic. I’m not saying any of this is good or bad. It’s just what it is.

I continue to encourage the manufacturers to produce more special and regular Southwest liveries. Would love a Gemini 727, and Silver One 737-300 with the brown tail, and the blue tail.

I very poorly worded that. I was trying to articulate that this release is disappointing and that the color issue is inexcusable given the price point. Sorry about that.

Look up photos of N714CB. They are all brown/metallic brown. I don't know what you're looking at if you're saying it's more yellow

You know the more I look at this in the more I see it it seems that Gemini really missed the boat on this one, I’ve spent some time looking at the real aircraft online and this one is not even near matching… What’s amazing is it still sold out with the color being so off. As long as you’ve been doing this gemini you should do a better job with something like this….

I believe you’re spot on here. I’ve been asking, is it a “retro” color scheme..? I guess I’m really just trying to find an excuse for the little yellow model. I don’t even know was a retro release would be defined as. I think I’ve said in the other thread, some 737-200 1:1 were more yellowish, and maybe some -300 and -500. But I don’t think there are any 1.1 dash 700s that faded this badly.. into a yellow color, like the Gemini 1:200 release.

You are so correct. And even then you could not be 100% sure, but it would be the most reliable method indeed. The dicussion about colours being correct or not (which is fine in se) did me more than any other similar thread want to write an article about this fenomenon. So as I'm bored today I started writing and it will be in General Sqauwk Talk very soon. :)

Before looking into the details into the colors of Southwest's Classic, I thought it was a mustard rocket. 1/200 collectors have not had a chance at a mustard colored Southwest on a good 737 mould for probably over 10 years. Gemini's first 1/200 releases included a Canyon Blue Southwest 737WL on an outstanding 737 mould made with an aluminum fuselage with spinning turbines and rolling wheels with detailed hubs. Even the spinner on the turbine had the little white swirl on it. Absolutely fantastic how they included those details! Gemini Jets brought 1/200 scale collecting to another level that made you feel like you were holding a real airplane that was shrunken down to 1/200. Opening the box made you feel like you were opening something grand, and sure enough, I was! The Shamu from JC wings was a recent treat to the mustard rocket era. Great mould, and at least the tail was mustard!

At least from my point of view, SWA has proven to be the little airline that has outperformed the other domestic carriers here in the US, and in my opinion, a great airline that simply uses all Boeing 737's. Headlines will feature SWA posting profits despite times of economic downturn, and is a popular site at domestic terminals of the big airports throughout the US - Atlanta Baltimore Chicago–Midway Dallas–Love Denver Houston–Hobby Las Vegas Los Angeles Oakland Orlando Phoenix–Sky Harbor to name a few. I will use that word again, aesthetics, and when looking at a southwest jet before boarding, from a plane window, or just walking on the sidewalk, I always thought to myself, "Wow! Thats a good looking Southwest Boeing 737!" Even a bigger treat when spotting one with a special livery.

One of my most fondest memories flying, was on a Southwest flight from Houston Hobby to Chicago Midway, I put a plate of pizza on the floor (Yes, that was pretty gross, I was a kid, don't ask me why I put it there), and shortly after takeoff, the flight attendant made an announcement on the speaker, that someone's pizza slid to the back of the aircraft. My head sunk down in embarrassment, and i slowly raised my hand.

If and when Gemini releases a non-wingletted Southwest 737-500 in the mustard rocket colors, it will be a sure sellout. Please make it happen Gemini, and if the unparalleled details from first generations of the 737 mould can be brought back, that would be terrific!

Agreed - I also have fond memories of WN - shuttling back and forth between AUS and DAL in the early 2000's on the remaining -200's they had - there was usually a flight every hour and even on the half hour sometimes. I managed a ride at some point on N96SW which was the only -200 that made it into Canyon Blue. I'm very pleased to have the IF model of that one.

+1 for that. My "flown on" list that hasn't been made yet is pretty extensive - I hope to see all of these at some point:

737-300 Mustard
737-300 California One w/Canyon tail
737-300 Lone Star One
737-300 Shamu (I have the Hogan but it's pretty poor)
737-500 Mustard
737-500 Canyon
737-700 Shamu (I have this Hogan as well and it's better)

And since we're also discussing the new GJ's retro color here, I posted this in another thread but again:

Check this thread that I started on airliners.net - https://www.airliners.net/forum/view...?f=3&t=1433593

It seems to me that the -200's were all the original 'pea green' color (or 'ochre' as some call it) that was sourced from Braniff. How it became known as 'mustard' is probably a whole other story. You can see in this shot below that the newer color on the radome is more of a golder-toned brown. That newer radome color is what ended up on all the -300's and NG's.

So I think the retro is meant to jazz up the lighter toned brown as seen on the NG's with a little more gold. GJ has the right idea I think, but I don't feel like it evokes the 1:1 that well.

l.

The state flag liveries are some of the best out there in my opinion. I hope they come out with all the special liveries SWA fly's. I have the Shamu from JC, Missouri, Florida, Illinois and Louisiana from Gemini. Hoping for New Mexico, Texas, Maryland, Colorado and California at some point.

As for the color of this release, I'm glad my order got cancelled, I don't like the color at all. I want the real mustard one, this one is just off for my tastes.

For me it's nostalgia. As a kid, I used to see these and the canyon blue 737s whenever me and my family flew into Phoenix. I have a lot of good memories of these planes. Also, the previous liveries look way better than the current one in my opinion. I miss the orange.

I got mine. Pretty satisfied!

Here is the most important picture that everyone has not mentioned:

What do you guys see?!?!

That's right! REMOVABLE GEARS!!!!! the same thing also on the recently released American TWA 737-800!! I have the gemini 737 max 8 and 9 that was released a while back and those didn't come with removable gears

So does anyone know if this is an improved gemini 737 mould because i was thinking that gemini used to only have removable gears on widebodies....
