Default My SW flaps down 737 pre-order has been cancelled

Note from my retailer:

I apologize for the inconvenience, but we have learned that this specific item will not be available. They informed us that due to COVID, miscalculations on their production estimates caused this problem. We understand this is very frustrating for collectors but there is no solution except cancel pre-orders on this item.

Did anyone else get this (WTF is due to COVID has to do with anything anymore)?

I had something similar on the Eastern 727-100 for March, but mine was not a cancellation...it was the retailer informing me that they were not given their full allotment and retailer saying it would be shipped after May 21st. I just received it today along with the 2 others I purchased from the April announcements. When I got the note I immediately bought an Eastern from another retailer that had one left in stock in fear of missing out or having to pay the out of stock/sold out premium in case I did not receive the initial one I ordered.

The pre-order game was bad enough, especially with some mfgs, but now when one pre-orders and has the pre-order cancelled is not a good way to do business!

DiMA shows 20 in stock at Waffle. Sounds too good to be true but it's worth a try

Yes, a retailer told me this. Demand far surpasses units made.

So I'm assuming the non-flaps down version is still game for pre-ordering??

well FLYING TIGERS in U.K are still showing pre-order. but obviously like others no idea if they will get all their allocation. ARD + AIRSPOTTERS are out. but FT sell mostly military. so a good chance they don't sell so many commercial. and they only take payment upon release! Richard the owner is very good. will try and ring them tomorrow.

Wow, sorry to hear that.

I also have the LATAM preordered through Diecast Airplane and haven't heard when they will be shipping out. Hopefully we'll get an update soon.

Just ordered a flaps up version from RM. Hopefully it doesn't get cancelled. They are supposed to get in June 12th. I'm very surprised at how quickly these sold out.

I was late to order this one. I ended up making another order about two weeks ago and saw that it was still available for preorder and said what the heck and added it. But if it doesn’t show up then I really won’t shed any tears over it. It did change to sold out after I placed my order so I know I’m last in line.

Just in case anyone is interested, RM store’s website has the fedEx tracking number and my order is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow June 5th. I’ll update tomorrow. But seems to me that RM is getting the job done!

May as well ask.. RM, are you going to expand your offerings? Any plans to add older Gemini, JCW, Inflight, Sherpa, Hogan, Starjets, etc. collection sales? How about a military section, 1:200, 1:72 and 1:48?

Do you have any hookups for sourcing sold out models? For example, I need the 1:200 SWA Missouri One 737!

Here we have a states side retailer engaging the forum. Can’t beat this resource right now Thanks for that, RM!

Getting older models, regardless of brand is hard to do since practically the only way to get them are though collection sales, which we try to get as many as possible. The demand for these models are getting higher than ever, and some models that used to last for years on shelves are selling out in a few months nowadays. We are always looking for hidden treasures, and often go back to older models that are buried at the bottom of distributor's stock lists, and try to hold as many models as possible in store.

Older Southwest models, especially 1:200 models are almost impossible to find, but I do often come across older rare models. One category we're looking to expand upon in the future is military, specifically Gemini MACS, JC 1:72, Calibre & Hobby Master.

Bingo! Same. Cool. Well I for one just appreciate hearing this from a retailer. There are so many good ones out there, and top notch customer service goes a long way in this hobby, especially with the frustrations of PRE-ORDERS. I just think they’re awful, and frankly unethical, and as a collector it’s very irritating. The blame ping pong ball bounces around between manufacturer, retailer, and yes the customer. And I wish just one of these groups would unite and endgame that noise On this, a shout out to Gemini for being by far the best of the bunch!

Southwest was tough to get five years ago, and damn near impossible now! Even the over-saturation of new paint -800 and MAX versions are now adios.

I was gonna wait til I landed a Missouri One, but maybe when the mustard flaps gets delivered I’ll do a little amateur hour living room table top photo shoot with all my SWA... Gemini, JCW, Inflight, Hogan, Herpa

I do have to agree, I don't really like listing pre-orders that have an ETA over 1-2 months, but at the same time, many manufacturers such as NG Models and Aviation400 rely on preliminary demand from pre-orders to decide the quantity needed for production. As such, many retailers use pre-orders as a sample size to determine how many to order, not to over-stock and under stock. A happy medium, I find is pre-orders without payment. That concept has worked very well for us, and we find that most customers do stick to their commitment of paying for the model once it arrives (as we don't ask for payment info beforehand). At the same time, I have dealt with many people who like to pay upfront and get the payment done beforehand, even if the product might take a while to arrive, as they like knowing that they won't have a bill to pay for their long awaited model once it's released.

There is no right or wrong way to do it, but I strongly feel like pre-orders have enabled increased production size of highly anticipated models, as many of these model companies are in China and do not know the demand in the US market. A recent example of this would be Midwest CRJ200, which I would assume NG at start would have not made very many due to the fact that most of the niche retro CRJ200's NG has made hasn't sold very well, but the Midwest CRJ200 was one of the best selling models of last month's release due to very few releases of Midwest Airlines models.

If these long term pre-orders from Inflight200 and JC Wings are looked more as future preview's or sneak peaks rather than releases, it would really decrease the frustration that many collectors face. Having the option to reserve without paying upfront is also very important in my opinon.

So, you’ll buy this one from a retailer on a regular basis? That’s great!

Here’s the Southwest Airlines Table Top Fleet.

The new mustard flaps is definitely a mustard yellow rocket, where as the older 737-700 is a mustard brown rocket. The difference in color is greater than what’s shown in my pictures. Raymond has it correctly in his thread.

Hope you like the shots of specials, states, blues, browns, and yellows!

Very very nice collection !!!

BTW the difference in the Mustard colour won’t bother me, as in reality there are also so many different sorts out there (I personally prefer the sweet Bavarian type. Together with their white sausage a perfect combination…) 🙂

Absolutely. I did a little web searching, and what I found was that the yellow color was almost always on the -200, which I never realized or thought much about. So.. if this new release is in fact a retro, than it’s a retro of the -200, and probably not the -300, -500, and -700.

Any thoughts on that idea?

think you will find its the NON FLAPS version. as it does not have an F on the end. the other one is 1/400 version.

Sean: Thats a really nice Southwest Collection! Gemini Jets have yet again done a fantastic job! This time on the Classic livery!

With these flaps down versions, I feel like we will be seeing SWA releases with extended flaps and slats, since there are so many to be made. Still hoping for a Lone Star One before the latest livery.

I had mine on pre-order ordered it pretty early on, got a notice that it was processing as far as shipment, then the next day the retailer emailed me and said my order was canceled… I’m not very happy about it

There will probably be tables full at AI. I remember years ago coming on here when people were saying certain models were sold out everywhere and then going to AI or other airliner shows and there being tables that had plenty! I wonder how many retailers hold some back only to get more money for them later!?

Kinda doubt it - I think it's the other way around, sort of. Check this thread that I started on airliners.net - https://www.airliners.net/forum/view...?f=3&t=1433593

It seems to me that the -200's were all the original 'pea green' color (or 'ochre' as some call it) that was sourced from Braniff. You can see in this shot below that the newer color on the radome is more of a golder-toned brown. That newer radome color is what ended up on all the -300's and NG's.

So I think the retro is meant to jazz up the lighter toned brown as seen on the NG's with a little more gold. GJ has the right idea I think, but I don't feel like it evokes the 1:1 that well.
