Default MD-11 KLM - The world is just a click away - JCW

Hello, after 10 years of doing nothing I desided to pick-up and an old hobby of mine, collecting models .

After starting with the Skymarks KLM777 I decided to order the JC wings MD-11. I was suprised with the extrem detail of this aircraft compared with the Skymarks and some old Herpa Wings I did still have.

My biggest problem now... What will be my next airplane

Hello Frank,

Then... welcome back to the hobby.

The JC Wings KLM MD-11 definitely is a good choice. Since you started with a Skymarks KLM 777, I guess you have a special interest in the Dutch flag carrier. Any core interests?

Welcome Frank,

If KLM is your interest, I hope you will include some older props as well.

If I am honest, locating a more difficult to find model to me is more satisfying than "buying of the shelf", but of course this depends on your collecting criteria.

How about a DC-6 or DC-7?

Thank you all for the welcome

I'm indeed mostly interested in the Dutch carriers, however I also want to collect some other airplane models which i liked from my childhood and planes I have flow in as a passenger.

For instance the beautiful metal looking American Airlines DC-10 and some Tupolev 154.

Airplanes on my shortlist for now:

DC-9 KLM (JC Wings)
DC-8 - 63 KLM (nowhere to find currently )
B763 KLM (nowhere to find currently )
Fokker 50
Dutchbird/TNT 757 (JC Wings)
727 TNT (Inflight 200)

Several KLM DC-8-63 aircraft on ebay currently. 767's as well.
The KLM 767 will be released by Inflight200 so you can pre-order that one.

Oh great, thanks for the info.
My guess that on Ebay it will be an used example? Anthing i need to keep in mind for diecast models? And is INflight200 comparable with JC Wings?

My first model was also a Skymarks. I did a little bit of research after that purchase and discovered metal, and the wonderful world of diecast models. Great add!

My quess too.
The DC-8's are Inflight200 models.
Check Aviation Megastore for the 767. I have the JC Wings 767 in my collection, but the Inflight200 767 looks good from the pictures I have seen.

I personally like the Inflight200 DC-8-63.
Check their website for the KLM DC-8-63 models they have made in the past, to give you an idea what's out there.

Difficult to advise you on diecast models in general.
I guess this depends on the level of accuracy you are looking for and on the particular model. Some brands are better on certain aircraft types than others.
Personally I prefer checking out models in person. Specially on new models currently on sale, I have found it worthwhile driving to the store and buy it if I like it. It allows you to check fittings and decals more closely and avoids the model being damaged in the mail.
Sometimes however a model becomes available on the internet. Asking for some extra pictures may help to add some comfort before you buy. Fellow members online also keep track of "bad" sellers on Ebay.

Have fun collecting. Looking forward to some pictures of the collection in the future !

Nice McDonnell Douglas MD-11 there and welcome to the DA.C forums as for the next model well up to you really, some people collect only one aircraft type like DC-10's or B747's like me, others collect aircraft t they only flew with some go even per registration also something I did with a few.

And there are also military models some only collect F16's for example others only jets from the SAC aka Strategic Air Command , there are those that only collect Russian aircraft civil or military, you can go many ways when it comes to model collecting, with scale 1:200 for civil aircraft you made a nice choice, for jet fighters scale 1>72 is more commonly chosen.

I have the latest KLM MD-11 from GeminiJets and this new one from JC wings is exactly the same except the 'The world is just a click away' and registration. I compared them today.

Also I collected it at Aviation Mega Store and they said they only received a fraction of the models ordered and do not expect any new ones to come.

I hated the MD11 when I flew it on my bi-weekly commute to JRO but as a model I appreciated the plane more and more. I truly hope a polished one is coming next.
