Pics: G-VBIG - A Not So Common Fairy

I bought a copy of this model last April & even moved it with me to London in May. When I had to return to America in August I had no room for it in my baggage & was forced to sell it because I had accumulated so much stuff in London! I wanted the flaps extended version again & thankfully, JetCollector still had 2 in stock. So here's Tinks again! Many thanks to Russell for posting his photos of this beautiful model at my request. It was his photos that convinced me to buy the model last April. Unrelated: On Sunday, I watched 2 new videos featuring plane spotting at LHR. There were no four engined aircraft in either video, not even cargo. Don't get me wrong, I love the 787 & A350, but I'm concerned that I'm going to become bored with aviation in a few years due to the lack of variety of aircraft types. Everything is twin engined now. Yes, there are some 747s & A380s left, but nothing like before. I wish so many airlines hadn't swiftly & permanently retired the 747. I'm sincerely saddened about this.

I'm having an issue with the light grey backdrop I'm using when photographing white models against it. I suspect it's because I take photos outside in a covered patio. It's very bright in Palm Springs & white models get washed out against the grey due to glare. My backdrop consists of 2 pieces of 1/8" plywood painted light grey. Today, I painted the reverse side of the boards satin black then took a few photos. Yes, the back panel is satin black though it appears grey due to glare.

Aircraft and model details:
Boeing 747-4Q8; G-VBIG "Tinker Bell"

Serial No. 26255; Line No. 1081
First flight 28th May 1996

Gemini200 G2VIR766F, produced 2019
Special Notes: Third 747-400 delivered to Virgin; stored at St. Athan Airfield (Wales) 22nd November 2019

Thanks, Agent CV! I've deleted all but one of the photos I posted this morning that were taken against the grey backdrop & have replaced them with the photos I took a little while ago.

I received a few models last week that I've already taken photos of against the grey backdrop, but I think I'll take new photos against the darker backdrop.

Nice to see that you have the G-VBIG back in your collection Randy. I have it too, but not the "flaps down" version :

https://i.ibb.co/vHp0R2k/All-focus.jpg

It's the only Virgin Atlantic model I currently have in my collection, but in the future maybe an A350 will follow (at least if G-VJAM "Queen of Hearts", G-VLUX "Red Velvet" or G-VPOP "Mamma Mia" becomes available).

But back to your topic : I always try to find and collect videos from Youtube about the 1/1 versions of the models I have. Watch here the flying skills of the pilot in Tinker Bell during a landing in Manchester with strong crosswinds:

My vote would be for G-VPOP because I flew in that aircraft 16th August 2020!!

She is indeed a real stunner.
A not only adore the billboard text, but also the fact that they choose for a very stylish slim font type. It results in a very strong contemporary branding.

Just received my "Flaps Up" version, and I can confirm that it is simply stunning. Now that I am holding it in my hands, I'd venture to say that while you guys have great photos, photos don't do it justice in my opinion! :) Glad to have one in my collection now!

Isn't it a gorge model? I've been trying to find G-VXLG (G200's first VS 747 release) but I'm uncertain if it's any different than G-VBIG.

It is different...

Take a look here at my thread:

https://www.diecastaircraftforum.com...c-experts.html

BTW are the cockpit windows from your copy of the G-VBIG OK ???

Would be happy to see a picture from the side view of that part ;)

That's awesome!

I know Virgin's livery is not much better than other Eurowhite liveries out there, but at least it's pearlescent which gives it a bit of pop.

Randy, not an even an hour since the upload and had to post this right away. This guy's reviews are good. I just love that view at 2:42 still in the box 😋. ...btw go to 9:30 when he finally lifts her out of the box 😉

Thanks for the link, LeFreakie! I liked hearing about some of the technical features of the actual aircraft, too!
