I feel bad for those people that paid big $$ for the mustard on eBay in the recent months, but very happy it wasn't me. Mustard and AA TWA for me.

Don’t feel bad, I can make fun all I want about people paying stupid money for the southwest 737, however several years ago I paid stupid money for a house colors sunrise 747-8. I suspect we all have one or two in our collection that we had to have that we paid more than we should have but are glad to have it…

Good to see the 330 neo finally being released! Curious how the interactive 777 turns out!

I ordered the Delta A330. I was on the fence about the Southwest but decided to pass. I gotta admit I'm a little disappointed by the AeroLogic being an interactive only. I was really hoping to see a DHL get made one day but I really don't want it to be interactive.

Nope. The only AA 737-800 heritage livery that Gemini 200 has released is the Reno Air. There is an AA/TWA 737-800 but it is made by Inflight 200.

Sooo...now that GJ is producing "Interactive" 777s now, how long will it be before we see "Interactive" passenger aircraft models? It's just a matter of having cargo doors that open & close. Though having an opening port side forward boarding/disembarking door couldn't be too difficult. Herpa did it on their Air Berlin A320 back in 2007.

On the one hand, I really wish the TWA heritage livery was painted on an AAL aircraft type that was actually flown by TWA (MD8x, B757, B767, etc), so it looks very weird on the B737. It isn't like AAL was only painting on B737s (look at the airbuses they painted, etc)

On the other hand, this is the only example in the world of the TWA livery on a B737...

So I'm kinda emotionally torn on this

Good point but now all MD-80s and 757s are retired from AA fleet. Only 767s are still flying but might not be for too long. I guess the 737s represent the back bone of AA fleet now and mostly serve domestic routes. They will definitely last longer in the fleet despite some 737 retirements.
I just hope Gemini fixes the nose shape and cockpit details of the A320 family before releasing the heritage among the Airbus fleet. That nose needs surgery.
I am with you on the feeling of seeing TWA partially on a 737 still flying. What a rich history is TWA!

The 767’s were retired last spring.

In all reality, only a MD-80 or 767 would have really fit the bill. TWA didn’t acquire their first 757 until they had already rebranded for their final time.

I’d say it depends on the longevity of such parts and its color(s). As long as these are made of painted metal (= equal to the fuselage), I would not expect any problems. But if those parts are made of plastic, you will always detect differences in both, accuracy of fit and (dis)coloration... if you look close enough, you can detect these differences from the very beginning.

I'm excited to see an Aerologic 777! This one for sure I will get. As for the Southwest, I am also excited, however, I hope that Gemini Jets will not use the same glittery finish as the 1/400 release although it looks like there might be some metallic properties to the real Classic. I also hope the passenger windows are outlined in white and not silver.

NEWS FLASH 04/22/21 at 0900 CST! SWA Retro Livery with flaps/slats sold out at some US online retailers! I managed to place a pre-order with wafflecollectibles.com

I guess the Southwest Mustard 737 is the retro release for the month! I guess it means I am getting old when a livery I remember seeing regularly becomes a retro release!!!

I'm not a collector of Southwest models, but I like the airline, the few times I've flown on them. Would someone please educate me on the differences in the liveries? Is the "Classic" on this new release supposed to be exactly like the original mustard rocket livery? (Older IF release shown in the photo.) Or is it different and simply a nod to the original livery? The original mustard livery doesn't appear to have any metallic in it. And what livery is this on the IF B722? Or did IF get the colour incorrect?

That was one of the liveries used on the 727-200... they also had the titles in different style.

A discussion on Southwest mustard rocket liveries could get complex similar to that of the debates about the correct blue on a KLM. So here are a couple of pictures of the old 727 which seems to hint at some metallic properties, then a 732 which shows variations of the mustard color with fresh patches of paint over faded areas, which I feel there is a little wiggle room with how the "mustard" can be darker or lighter. I think much of the diecast models whether it be from Herpa, or Gemini Jets, or JC Wings, have done quite well with color match. Toward the end of the mustard rocket era when the canyon blue became Southwest's livery, you can see many mustard rockets that were quite faded. I also included a 737-700 much like the earlier release from Gemini 200, with a minimal fade in the paint. Probably giving off a more ochre appearance. It could be fair to say, please no gloss, and you didn't see too many glossy mustard rockets, canyon blue, yes.

Recently I noticed that Gemini 200 finishes appeared to have a flat finish, which gave off a more realistic look. Examples of this are the AeroMexico 787 special livery, and the Blue Angels C-130 in the new paint scheme for 2020. Again, this "Classic" 737-700 appears to be a one-off from the mustard livery and is actually referred to as Desert Gold with a more faded ochre. I think this new matte finish would be ideal for this upcoming release. The metallic appearance remains to be explained. It would be neat if someone could walk up to the real bird to take a macro shot to confirm this.

Working for Southwest and having worked as a ground ops agent on that particular "classic" livery it is very much metallic in person versus the "original" mustard color which was just a flat color. Just like on the new Heart livery the white/gray color stripe between the red and yellow and blue is actually a metallic as well.

Thanks, guys. I find it interesting that the 727s were painted differently than the 737s. That said, given GJ has the Southwest license, we need a Southwest B722.

As MG 727 stated above, from pictures of clean SW 737 Mustard's I've seen they are very much metallic (especially in sunny conditions)! Ordered it with Flaps Down and American Heritage TWA Flaps down...but what happened to retailer allotment of March releases to US retailers (maybe worldwide)!? Want my damned Eastern 727-100 White top...was told endish of May!...hope Gemini isn't getting like JC and Inflight!

Indeed - I started a thread on airliners.net a while back to discuss this - https://www.airliners.net/forum/view...593&p=21745359

While there were some good comments, I never really got any definitive answers to my question about when exactly the change in shade of the old mustard livery occurred. But here is the picture I used to illustrate the shift that happened back then:

The radome and the top of the tail are clearly different colors than the original 'pea green' shade - more of a brown.

Every picture of the retro mustard ones I've seen indicates to me that what MG 727 is saying is correct - the retro is metallic. The original wasn't.

I haven't seen this happen before on any other GJ200 releases but did you all have issues pre-ordering any of these models? The SWA and AA were sold out at some vendors before they were even listed. I managed to find a flaps down AA but would have liked to order the SWA as well but it was out of stock already.

When JC announced the "Shamu" 737 it was nearly the same. A lot of people seem to get excited about SWA.

Not sure which vendors you've looked under so far, but they are both still available at Waffle. The southwest is dwindling pretty fast though, and there are still plenty available of the AA.

Now is May 15, but there is still no product photos of April Releases. I cannot wait to see photos of the Southwest 737, I have it on pre-order.

A great looking set of releases for May! The Desert Gold looks pretty good, and very glad the metallic properties didn't come off too glittery. The Aerologic looks great as well. Nice to see tampoed lines on the engine nacelles.

I am very tempted to do some inking on the flap joints and weathering on the Southwest and and dirty them up a bit. I wonder if Gemini will ever go the route of inking the panel lines for extended flaps. I think it would stand out nicely.

Assuming that it is accurate I am very happy with the final color representation on the southwest 737

Why? This new model doesn't represent the standard mustard livery - it's one of the current retro birds and is a quite different color.

Wrong. My retailer still has the AA (either version) and DL releases available for pre-order. The SW is sold out on his site, but I've found the flaps up available on another retailer's site.
