Default Pics: KLM - Bridging the World

I can't really have the member name "KLM4me" without having a model of a KLM aircraft, can I? And given KLM is well known for their beautiful 747s, the model had to be a 747. I wanted a model of an aircraft that has some historical significance, so I chose this one. I also lived in Atlanta for 3 years so that ticked off another box. Gold Leader posted photos of this model recently, so I won't post all of the photos I uploaded to flickr. I mean, you've seen one KLM 747 model, you've seen them all. . (Unless it's a Herpa Premium!)

KLM: Bridging the World!

Aircraft and model details:
Boeing 747-406 PH-BFA "Atlanta / City of Atlanta"
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
Serial No. 23999; Line No. 725
First flight 15th April 1989
Delivered to KLM 18th May 1989
Configuration 35 Business Class, 36 Premium Economy, and 337 Economy class seats
Inflight200 IF744KLM0520, produced 2020
Special Notes: KLM's first 747-400

You need to check out the book. https://klm747.nl/

Mark my words, you won’t be disappointed...The book and the details covered in the would compliment these beautiful models...

Beautiful model. The book is also lovely. Thanks for sharing. I've only flown KLM once. Way back in 1989. YVR-AMS. PH-BUB.

Thank you, sir. I had hoped to one day fly on one of KLM's iconic 747s. I guess I still can if I pack myself into a crate and travel as cargo!

Hey grats with you PH-BFA tho! as for seeing one KLM you seen all, I can't agree with that, soorry just no rofl
The more KLM B747's I see the more I wan t to see, thing is they don't fly PAX anymore, the only ones we have now are the B747-406ERF/SCD's and well the Martinair B747-412BCF/SCD as well and that is really all that is left.

So I too might come with something KLM based soon, I am tying anyways, thanks for posting this KLM B747-406 tho, always nice to see others get this one, to me diecast models look better than Herpa's Premium overpriced PVC models, metal looks more realistic, just me though!

Not going to lie about this, but I find that Inflight 200 is very underrated as well, ion the end KLM B747's are very sentimental for us Dutchies.

But hey great job with the white backdrop, I am assuming you used the white inner boxes to make that as I ave done, it really helps you make great photo's

Great pictures and a good pick, the Inflight Atlanta 747-400. I also lived in Atlanta for about a year, flying out of Hartsfield-Jackson. Ocassionally Atlanta did indeed visit Atlanta in those days. As Gold Leader said, you can't have enough KLM 747's, but that is of course very personal.

Thanks so much, guys. Gold Leader, the backdrop is actually light grey. I had leftover plywood & grey paint from renovating the interior of my home, so I decided to use it as a photo backdrop!

At the height of my model airplane collecting (2011), I had a fairly large collection of KLM models. (Hence, my member name.) I was thrilled when Inflight produced the first 747 models, because prior to that, all of the KLM 747 models in my collection were made by Skymarks & Herpa. I once had many different aircraft types: 737s, 767, DC-9, DC-10, A330, DC-8s, 777s. I even had an A310. The model was very basic and didn't come with landing gear, but came with airport equipment. Produced by IMC. I painted the lower fuselage, wings, horizontal stabs, and added landing gear. It looked pretty good when I was done & it was fun doing it. The above said, I'm avoiding getting back into collecting KLM because there are over 200 models produced in this scale & I don't have room for them now. Here's a photo of the A310.

used to have that A310 as well in the past Randy. when i collected KLM back then i had around 40 KLM models. and that was BEFORE Inflight started pumping out the 747s. only had the first release.

Great addition of the 747!!

I remember this A310 model. Didn't they sell on board years ago? I also remember a large model airplane store at Schiphol airport in 1989. Not sure if it is still around?

Awesome collection, Agent RJ5! Isn't it fun to have a sea of KLM blue? And thanks!

Yes, I think the A310 was sold on board. Very hard to find these days!

I've been tempted to buy the Herpa City of Lima 747 model, just for sentimental reasons.

I like what you did to the IMC A310. I still have it somewhere and put a landing gear under it as well (Hogan). It was in my earlier collecting days. Since than, I have made some efforts to upgrade the collection. Enjoy your KLM 747.

Yes, they did. IMC models did sell well on flights.
The model store is still there at Schiphol airport, but it is not what is was back in the 80s when it was located under the trainstation, basically in the cellar of the airport.

I admire KLM but living in the Rocky Mountain west I have not flown it many times - maybe eight or ten.

747-200 AMS-ORD in 1979 is the only queen trip I remember. Only 1:200 I have in my collection is a 737. I believe the cabin service I've had on KLM 330s & 777s is the very best of any first/business class trip ever (2nd - LanChile).

Thanks so much! I'd really like to add one or two more KLMs to my collection, such as DC-9. Perhaps someday.
