Default A Highly Anticipated Virgin!

Greetings! Here's my most recent acquisition! This model is an exclusive for Aircraft Model Store in the U.K. I had no idea it existed; it's not even in DiMA. I stumbled upon it by accident when searching for Virgin Atlantic 1:500 scale 747 models. HUGE thanks to member robertjon5 aka "Agent RJ5" for assisting me with obtaining this beauty! (And to member leoteo for offering!) I flew on the actual aircraft twice: 24th August 2018 SEA-LHR and 7th January 2021 LHR-SEA. I had hoped to photograph this and any future models with a different backdrop but when I placed the model in front of it, I realised the backdrop was too light and the model blended in. So, apologies for the wood. I wish I possessed the high level of photography skills as some of you have.

Aircraft and model details:
Boeing 787-900
Virgin Atlantic Airways
G-VBEL "Lady Freedom"
Serial No. 37980
295th B787-900 manufactured
First flight 2nd March 2018
Delivered to Virgin 13th March 2018; 16th 787 delivered to them
Configuration 31 Upper Class, 35 Premium Economy, and 198 Economy class seats
1:200 scale Phoenix PH02010

I can't begin to tell all of you how much it means to me to finally have a model of a Virgin B789 that I've actually flown on. The feeling - at least for me - is kinda like owning a model of the car you own & drive!

Ta muchly, Robert! This is the first Phoenix model I've purchased in many years, the last one being an Alaska Disney 737.

I had no idea this was you, Randy. Was this your name even before?

Beautiful model and having one that you flew in makes it even more special. Besides your love for Virgin Atlantic is still as strong as from four years ago if not more.

I can't tell you how awesome it feels to have flown on A6-EEQ United for Wildlife which unfortunately even though having the same animals and a slightly different signage exists as A6-EEI. Hint Crowniv we need a 1:200 for A6-EEQ Have flown on many other registrations that exist in various scales . (Edited to add correct reg for Crownvic &#x1f609

Hi, LeFreakie! I think so? At one point, I was "RandySF," but I've been "KLM4me" for many years.

I'm flattered you remember how much I love Virgin Atlantic. I finally flew on Virgin for the first time on 30th April 2017. It was a life-changing trip in many ways. I'm looking forward to receiving Gemini's upcoming release of G-VZIG, as it's a model of the aircraft I flew on, on the return flight of that trip.

I'm unfamiliar with Emirates, but is that the same livery that's considered "Wildlife #3" (looking in DiMA)? I see it's been produced by Gemini in 1:400. I'm actually surprised it's not been released in 1:200 scale.

I've been gone so long you were probably KLM4me.... just that you were always a VS fan so the name KLM4me just didn't link it to you. Great that you actually flew Virgin Atlantic. Of course we all remember how much you loved VS. And now you flew on the Dreamliner

There is a 1:200 of A6-EEI made by Gemini same animals except A6-EEQ has the United for Wildlife wording different at the front. I'd be happy to get A6-EEI if I could but all 1:200 are sold out.

The nose gear is in back to front. Don't worry we are all guilty of it! Only 747 nose wheels go in that way. Not bad as plastic models go. Good catch for your collection

Oh yes it' s a Phoenix, in which case you have no choice its glued in. You need to re position the bottom half of the nose wheel to the correct position then. Never the less, a lovely model you have there.

Keep an eye on eBay and I'm sure one will come along, or post a "wanted" thread on here and perhaps someone will have one to sell.

It's incorrect in the first couple photos, but I realised it prior to taking photos of it on the stand.

Thanks so much!

Great model. Virgin is not in my collection criteria, but I had to have the A340-600 "A Big Virgin Atlantic Thank You", and a A320neo in Virgin America. Just because.

Missed my radar, too! Glad my post could be of some help. It's one of the reasons why I post photos, although my photos aren't all that great.

I really want that A346, but in 1:500 scale due to its size. As for Virgin America - it was my favourite "budget" U.S. airline. I flew on them many times. And I really wish I had taken notes of the registration/tail numbers of the aircraft I flew on. I could kick myself for not doing so.

I just picked this same aircraft up on Ebay as well! I had previously gotten G-VNYL which is also not in DiMA yet - looks like this box has the checkbox for both versions. I haven't flown them yet but hope to.

The 1:500 VS A346 looks great. My only hesitation for not buying it, is that I can't find any of the VS 747s in that scale that are on my list. They're all from 2002-2013. I'm on the fence about having more than 2 scales in my collection. (I already have one 1:400 scale VS B744.)

Thanks!

Phoenix has been producing 1:200 scale since 2005 and their models are diecast, not plastic. They've produced several 747s in this scale, but they're the -8i variant, for Air China, Qatar, and Lufthansa. They've produced close to 250 747s in 1:400.

I understand you completely. I have the same feeling with some of my models that I have flown myself.

Nice model, and nice photos.

G-VZIG is already in stock here at AviationMegaStore. So I don't think it will be long before it is available in the US.
