Looks really good from what I can see. Looks like I'll definitely have to pick this one up. Just to confirm, this one is diecast, correct?

Yes indeed, this model is made of diecast metal:

So Herpa think this is worth making in 1/200, but Aeroclassics don't think it's worth making in 1/400 I guess? Great shame - an opportunity missed!

Looks like great mould, although main windscreen windows are printed bit too tall. And I hope they corrected cyryllic name on the fuselage - on pictured sample in Bulgarian word there is "T" instead of "G".

Very nice model, looking very good.
Will land here end of this week.
Love those classic propliners!!
Have the next one (CSA) on pre-order.

Hoping in the future for a DC7, Airspeed Ambassador, HP Herald, Vickers Viking, Vickers Vanguard,... all from Herpa (in metal).

There are pictures of Il-18 on Aviation-Center-Berlin site. All is corrected - cockpit printing, letters, there are additional panels printed on engines, detailed landling gear with good proportion. And you can clearly see distinctive shape of non-pressurised nose section that was "added" to pressure hulk. Amazing model, they really paid attention to Il-18 characteristic shape. Congratulations Herpa!

Actually this Aircraft was delivered to Bulair -charter airline, not to Balkan, it was later integrated into the fleet of Balkan. Initially it had the blue livery, the red I think it from the 70s ... anyway so beautiful. I hope Malev is one the next ones ... there not so many IL-18 operators anyway

Mine arrived today from Germany to UK 5 days.
Have to admit initial impressions are it's a cracker and where I normally only have one issue per type, I may get addicted to collecting more these as can't resist the CSA next issue.

Will post pictures at a later date.

Looking forward to see the pictures. Mine is currently on its way. I am however worried that the seam at the front below the cockpit windows is a little too dominant as shown below (taken from an eBay auction):

The model is amazing , please stop digging into things that maybe doesn't exist. Because of people like you, this hobby becomes a nightmare ... Somebody posted for DC-4 Air France that the French flag shouldnt be there , which is right but still the model is awesome and made especially for the Air France museum ... Does worth buying ... yes definitively ...

CAAC Il18? Yes please! The Il18 makes a beautiful model in any scale. I flew on an Interflug Il18 back in the mid 80s, quite an experience.

Mine made it cheaply to Montreal in a record time (thanks Deutsche Post & Postes Canada!) and I confirm this is an amazing model. I am not an Il-18 expert so I cannot really comment on the model accuracy, but it looks great. Yes, on the model there is a seam under the front fuselage, but in real life it is barely noticeable, much more proeminent in the pictures.

Received mine. Can confirm the seam is very much visible and the predominant part of the forward section. Once you see it you cannot unsee it.
Correction: The seam is correct (see second-next post)

Rest of the model is fabulous.

It was my impression that the seam is not that visible on the original airframe but following your answer I did a little research, found more pictures which support your standpoint. The previous pictures I knew of weren't that obvious.

In that case I have to say this is an excellent model in every aspect.

On the real aircraft, this seam is the separation line between the pressure vessel and the front tip of the fuselage, with the radome and its supporting structure. Compared to most aircraft, it extends significantly more to the rear, below the cockpit. It is quite obvious on liveries with this part of the fuselage left unpainted (natural metal), possibly also because the skins are different. I would expect the unpressurised part to be made of thinner aluminium sheets, possibly even a different alloy, as the fatigue loads are totally different (no pressurisation cycle). Much less obvious if painted. Sorry if I am pedantic, this is my engineering background applied to model.

In any case, a nice model and I am very grateful to Herpa for producing such aircraft, far from the mainstream Max/NEO etc.

No. I have had loads of stuff coming from Germany, France, Spain, USA and even Argentina (mainly Ixo Airport Vehicles Foreign releases) and no problems so far. I avoid the ebay listings that add vat, as this shouldn't be applied on items under £39 according to post office literature, ebay are wrong.

Well, if they did it in Interflug colors as the aircraft that served the head-of-state of the German Democratic Republic (i.e. East Germany), rev. DDR-STD, I would surely take one too. I once had some 24 hours in that aircraft incl. cockpit in original condition; it was converted and now serves as a luxury suite in The Netherlands.

Maybe this one in 1/200. A flight calibration aircraft I believe. Already available in 1/500?

Great machine Neil...they nicknamed it ~ Grauen Maus~ or the grey mouse in English. She was a calibrator but appearantly a bit too fast to use usefully.. After the wall came down she became D-AOAQ with Berline and had an passenger interior installed again, than in 1993 she went to Air Ukraine as UR-75475...a few years later she was transferrred to Kryla airline...i even had a flight in her back in 2001...wonderful machine in those colours of Kryla ( @HERPA )....than after a few years she was transferred to Angola for an company ALADA....probably by now scrapped...

But anyway Herpa really made a great mould...well done! Hope TAROM will follow some day ...YR-IMF Old colours and YR-IMG new colours woud be very welcome!!!
