I’ve got a general questions, folks. Pre-orders are okay, and I sense some manufacturers use announcements and pre-orders as an instrument of evaluation whether a model would sell in quantities that ‘make sense’ in their calculation.
Something that appears quite uncommon and hardly understandable to me is: why pre-ordering an announced model on an online auction platform like ebay? Is it so much cheaper than through regular retailers who usually don’t charge any money before the model actually hits their stock? Is there any other reason? You’re free to do so, of course. I’m just curious.
I preordered 2 models from there in March 2019 and still haven’t received them .
Message him loads of times but kept getting fobbed off about they haven’t been released yet and he hasn’t replied in about a year .
The most frustrating part he still has the models listed for preorder on his eBay page

I must say you are a patient person to be waiting almost 2 years for those 2 models. T7 (sorry to hear you are experiencing some problems with your pre-orders)

I have no choice , I spoke to eBay on the phone but there’s nothing they can do and it’s the same with the credit card company and I’ve sent emails and tried messaging him through eBay but I’ve not got anything back .
It’s either hope they eventually arrive or take the £200 loss

Man that sucks with having no recourse. Hoping for the best for you that they eventually end up in your 1/200 hangar.

Ebay does have regulations for offering pre-order (presale) items;
Presale listings must guarantee that the item will be shipped within 30 days of purchase.
The date the item will be available to ship must be clearly stated in the listing.
Listings must clearly indicate in the title and description that the item is being offered for presale.
Unfortunately they probably don't act against sellers that offer pre-order items which are not shipped within the mentioned 30 days
Maybe people that are waiting for (much) longer for a pre-order item they bought, can contact Ebay with this issue?
Maybe then they might enforce their own policy

I know for a fact that they read these fora and indeed, the 2 models you bought from them are announced a long time ago and still not released.
No doubt in my mind, their intention is to deliver these models to you, but they do need to have them first
I know that it’s not their fault that the models are yet to be released , it was just the lack of communication and I’ve been down £200 for nearly 2 years .
In all my years of collecting I've only preordered 2 or 3 models! I've always been able to find in the past releases after release, albeit some have a little premium added to original release price. Seems my preorders have been over the last year though, as post release copies are harder to find, unless one want to pay 2 to 3 times the release price!
As a general rule, I don't pre-order JC or IF models anymore until I see shots of the actual models show up with some of the Chinese Ebay sellers. Then I can reasonably infer that other retailers will be getting their stock soon and it's not just vaporware. If they are using quantity of pre-orders to judge what to make, then I suppose that more people following my strategy is going to result in certain releases being pushed back later and later, but I'd rather not carry the risk with my money.

I often use ARD for pre-orders, they don't bill you until the model is ready for shipping and pre-order demand can still be guaged. I would suggest any retailer taking full money for items that do not exist or may not exist are sharp practitioners. A deposit of 10% ought to be enough to secure a pre-order item.
