Default HELP! - Display cabinet needed for 1/200

Hi all,

Just a quick question, im in need of a display cabinet, my recent purchase spree has resulted In a... few... models being bought so im having to look for something to store them.

Not looking at spending a fortune, I was looking at the Ikea detolf but its just slightly too tall. Trying to find something with the following dimensions:

H: 135cm (Absolute maximum0
W: 40cm
L: 40cm

Looking to store multiple 1/200 MD-11s, 757s, 777s, and maybe a couple of 747s....

thanks in advance!

Have you checked out the basic Besta frames and then adding glass shelves and doors.

Believe me you have to keep in mind future model plane purchases 😃. Each Besta section divided by a glass shelf can hold eight planes. Two on the stands and two underneath and then the same switch the self below

I have two of these glass cases. One for 1/200 (pictured) and one for 1/144 scale aircraft.

Roughly 100cm tall and 42cm wide and sits on a desk/worktop. Rotates if you have room and glass door opens from left.

Bought them several years back - one on ebay and one from Wayfair. $299 retail if I recall correctly.

Not sure this will serve you well as you are displaying some larger aircraft and the center rotate bar would cause issues for a 747. Thought I'd throw it out there for you to see.

Mine are all Howard Miller and Pulaski curio cabinets. (Not sure if they are available in the UK.) They can be pricey but if you have the time and patience, some gems occasionally come up for sale and they are perfect for 747s. The larger Pulaskis can display up to 8 1:200 A380s, possibly more depending on how many glass shelves one chooses to put in.

I have chosen the IKEA Kallax. They are cabinets with square compartments, each 33cm wide/high and 38cm deep. They are available in different sizes: 1x2 compartments, 1x3 (which is closest to the size you want) and so on... up to 5x5. They also come in different colours.

For the compartments themselves you can order so-called inserts. On the photos you can see a glass door and the glass shelf for each compartment. This makes it ideal for a display cabinet. The LED lighting is not from IKEA but is easy to install if you are a bit handy.

The photos are a bit dark, but I just took them, and it is already evening here. If you like I will post some pictures tomorrow that I will take during the day.

Cheers

Hi Antoine,

Thanks for the compliment. I looked on the IKEA Canada web site for you and I confirm, I couldn't find the glass doors insert either. Neither in the USA, I see, otherwise I would propose you to do a trip to New Haven.

I am from Belgium, and currently they are available here :
https://www.ikea.com/be/nl/p/kallax-...-wit-70340299/

But they where not always available either. I already drove to the Netherlands to buy stuff that was not listed on the Belgian web site.

Also, unfortunately, it is not possible to order from a IKEA web site , other than the one of the country you're living in... (at least here).
Maybe in the future they will come also available in Canada.

Prachtig!

Great idea when it comes to IKEA cabinets though, I won't deny it, they have all sorts and sizes, many thanks for sharing the one you used, I really like those

I too need new cabinets these look very interesting, they come with glass doors as well right?

My B747 models are in my main living room cabinet which I also bought from IKEA, don't know the name of it tho.
Dad & I modified the doors with translucent glass doors, normally they were mat white glass instead, old pic though, but good enough for the thread.
