Default Another new collector

Hi there!

I've just started out with my 1:200 collection. Was planning to just get the KLM 747 when these were being taken out of service... but wasn't able to stick to just that model. In the end I seem to have decided to collect KLM and Greek models - as those are the two countries/markets I find myself most often. Against all odds and (financial) advise I must say!

So far I've found most of the models that I like from Inflight200. Many of them are either still on the way, stuck at customs, or did arrive but are at the front desk at the office - which I cannot currently visit for pick up! Bit of a pity. Once I do have all of them at home I'll take some pictures to share.

So far I've managed to get the KLM 747-400 Farewell model, 777-300ER Orange pride, and B737-800 (Jfox) in ~2015 colors. Then on the Greek side I purchased the Olympic 747-200, Aegean A321 Neo and - with a LOT of searching - the Aegean A320 CEO SX-DNA (Old color scheme).

With the exception of the Olympic 747 and new Aegean A321 neo I have flown each of these specific aircraft registrations. Some of them (Like SX-DNA) many many times.

There is a missing link in my collection though. The KLM MD11. I've flown the MD-11 when I moved to the US for studies so I have great memories about this aircraft.
However Inflight200 doesn't seem to do any MD11's. Gemini/JC Wings do, but the only model currently available (the retro colors) is not the color scheme I flew. So I would much prefer the one with the newer color scheme...which is impossible to find (barring some crazy $350 eBay listings).

So I have to make a choice here. Go for the Gemini retro color scheme which isn't my fav, go for the HobbyMaster model which is part plastic (Don't like that much either)... or wait. But wait for what? I'm doubting that Inflight200 will introduce an MD11 mould at this point. And Gemini won't repeat existing models. So... not sure what options I really have here.

Another model that I would REALLY like to find is the inflight200 Aegean A320 'Acropolis Museum' (SX-DVV). I've flown that registration many times so its a must get. But quite a rare one though, so chances of find that are slim. But who knows.. will keep on looking.

Welcome Xandrios,

I think most of us in this hobby say we will only collect certain airlines or aircraft and stay on course. Good Luck.

There are a lot of over price models on Ebay, but you can find models at good prices if you check all the time. Again this will led you to buying more models because what you're looking for is not for sale, but some other model is at a good price and you buy it. Check the "For Sale, Trade or Swap" in DAC also.

You never know if the manufactures of our models will make more of what we want, but the more popular the airline, the better chance they will make what you are looking for again.

Welcome to the forum! Like was previously said, you never know when a manufacturer might make the same model again. Gemini has done 2 or 3 releases of some popular ones, and I like their quality and packaging best.

I said that I’d stick to certain criteria when I started collecting, and then kept breaking it because I’d see something that I thought was really cool. I’m back on track now!

Welcome to the forum! As a fellow KLM collector the best tip I can give you is to try and get the Hogan MD11 in the farewell scheme. Not so hard to get and a wonderful model (allthough plastic). The Hobbymaster is not that good but if you find it for a nice price it aint that bad... The gemini and JC versions are hard to get by these days. .

I also started this year and spend way to much money to come up to speed... And questioning if 1/400 was not a smarter choice...

When I started I was only going to collect 747s but have now only 1 one and a very large fleet of KL777s....

I also decided to get non KLM flown planes from Air France...

And now I want a Tristar... a 757 and a couple of other models too... so I am already lost..

Welcome to the forum. You have made a flying start I read. I hope you will venture into the classic KLM props as well. Some are more difficult to find these days, but is is very rewarding when you do find one!

Since you collect Inflight and Olympic models, how about this one? Checks both boxes! (Photo from jumbliesmodels)

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody!

Regarding the KLM MD11 I did find the HobbyMaster for about 130 euro - which is on par with what I'd expect to pay for a diecast version (Well, diecast metal - I guess that technically even plastic models are probably cast from a die.. ). The Hogan version I haven't found available yet.

But I'm not sure. Plastic models often have a certain 'look' that I don't like. I'm not entirely sure why, maybe because of the way that they are colored/painted which seems different from how diecast metal models are painted?

And thanks for the picture of that Olympic A340! That's actually the first actual picture that I've seen of it - everywhere else it's just "pre-order" with a render rather than a picture. Also on the jumbliesmodels website this model seems to be preorder still though - I'm a little scared what Brexit will do to the customs charges when things get shipped after new year.

Edit: That Olympic picture is article IF3431116 which is actually different from IF343OA0420 which is on pre-order everywhere (including jumbliesmodels). Doesn't seem to be available any more. However the new one should, theoretically be out early next year. I'll definitely try to pick that up when available!

Welcome Xandrios to the DA.C forums! Hereby hoping you will enoy your stay here with us as for collecting aircraft models it's lots of fun and it's always a challenge but it can also be very addictive, it's like a drug at times! Always worth it in the end
Always happy seeing an other B747 collector here even it's from two airline carriers
As for me B747's all the way man, grabbing my 38th toorrow all 1:200 and diecast of course, one you go metal you never want to go back to plastic

So I hope to see your reviews & galleries of your collection and curious to what direction you plan on going.

Rock on man and stay safe

From what I understood only a limited number has been made (Saw somewhere that its 96 pieces), so once these are sold you will have to buy off somebody who sells theirs. For example off eBay. My SX-DNA model is still stuck with customs (for a month already ), once I do receive it I'll share pics.

Meanwhile I also ordered an Inflight200 Olympic A319 - which I believe would fit nicely with the Aegean A32x's. I believe this is still available on eBay at this time so I'd advise to jump on that one!

Thanks for the reply.
For the last two months I am trying to collect all the types of aircraft I have flown.
So far I have collected
- Olympic Airways B737-284 SX-BCA Lupa 1:130 although plastic I find it
quite good.
- Olympic Airways B737-484 SX-BKN Aviation200 1:200
- Olympic Air A319-132 SX-OAK Inflight 200 1:200
- Aegean Airlines A321-271NX Inflight 200 1:200.
I am searching for an Aegean A320 and Olympic Air's dHC8-Q400.
I am also looking in ebay. So far no joy.
I wish you all a Happy new Year. ( Covid free )

Not sure if you've tried this or not, but you may want to also try your luck in the 'For Sale / Wanted' section of this forum. Just create a wanted listing in that section, and maybe someone might have what you're looking for.

Anyhow, best of luck with your search!
