true, but a bidder with over 1000 fb has pushed it up to that? do they know each other and having a laugh?? me and you could agree to run up a model, but never pay.

I think this happens a fair amount with sellers trying to get other people to bid up a lot higher than something is really worth. Doesn't even require 2 people, just a seller with 2 accounts.

Honestly, I think people put too much stock into eBay feedback -- especially buyer feedback. I get it...you would be rightfully cautious around someone with 0 feedback but personally, once someone gets to 5, especially 10 than it is no different than 1000 when it comes to buyers. You can't leave negative feedback on a buyer so it doesn't really matter. And like everything, they will either pay or they won't pay. eBay doesn't do anything to enforce payment or likewise, preventing a seller from simply cancelling the sale under the disguise of the item has become broken.

Shill bidding came up recently in a Facebook group. I stated on the group and I'll state on here that I don't really think shill bidding happens that often. Regardless, if you're bidding the actual maximum you are willing to spend than you have nothing to fear from shill bidding. Sure, if you found out that the seller did it then you would be rightfully upset but if you ended up paying, say $200 and that is what you were actually willing to pay up to, then at the end of the day...you got your item for a price that you thought was acceptable. If someone is putting in a $1,000 bid because they just want it then they can only blame themselves for that mistake.

The only thing I have noticed lately and I do find it rather amusing, are sellers who try to charge $40-50 for US domestic shipping. Yeah, there is no 1/200 model you can sell in the US and spend more than $20 to ship...most are going to fall under the $15 range.
Grizz likes this.

well I know the seller and we meet at trade shows. so don't think he is running up bidding with second account. but what ALWAYS amazes me is when a rare model put up for a huge amount as a buy it now and it sits there month after month after month. yet when someone puts one on auction the bidding goes WAY past that B.I.N, with at least 2/3 bidders bidding over the B.I.N model. YET after it finishes the B.I.N model STILL never sells. yet 2/3 bidders were willing to pay more on auction. weird!

I have noticed that too. The only thing I can come up with is that people feel that the people who putting up BIN listings at $700 are greedy but somehow bidding up to that same amount or even over makes you feel better. Maybe that's just my take.

I think an eBay silent auction feature would provide some interesting results.

I’ve avoided purchasing my models from eBay for a number of reasons. These auctions were one of those reasons. Other reasons included risky and/or unreliable sellers (Ik it’s rare but there’s always that chance), crazy prices, etc. Problem is I’m missing plenty of models, a majority of which are rare and only turn up on eBay once in a blue moon for absurd prices...

well as a buyer you can't really lose. if you win a model for a $200-300 and it doesn't turn up or arrive damaged, ebay will give you your money back. as its a 'item received not as described'. in u.k its up to £500 gbp. I assume its similar for u.s.

I will have to look into eBay's policies more in-depth. Thanks for your insight.

Whoa!...seriously $1000 for a 1:200 Gemini Concorde!?
Now, I'm thinking how much would my Concorde model [G2BAW599] be worth, not to sell mine [cause I don't think I will ever sell it], but simply out of curiosity to understand its current value

Paid a more reasonable $320 for mine a few months ago. The gemini one is the best one with all the featres, nose tilt, gear up down, engine outlet open closing.

Noticed a landor on at £400.
I have seven so may have to consider disposal?

Paint damage isn't mentioned in the description.

This is what pee's me off with ebay, this bidder placed a bid for £1000 for this model and 5-6 days later is just allowed to retract the bid. Only the seller can see the reason, but probably the bidder has used the excuse that he entred the wrong amount. I find it difficult to accept, if it was the wrong amount he would have realised straight away and should have retracted there & then, but to be allowed 5-6 days later just before the 24 hour cut off, is wrong, he entered into a binding contract when he placed his bid and should be sanctioned by ebay. I tend to block bidders that back out, from any future auctions and their full username should be seen so that others can block them too.

There got that off my chest.

I don't know what happened to the clown who retracted his bid but I was the eventual winner (and paid immediately for those who were speculating it would go unpaid) as it was high on my want list and was never a shill bid or anything unsavoury on the part of the seller. Just thought I would clear up any speculation regarding the seller or buyer (me).

Anyway happy to have nailed this one and the price was what I was willing to pay at the time. As a long time collector of many various things over the years something is worth whatever someone is willing to sell for or pay in the end, no more and no less.

So visit my want list that I just refreshed! This plane was on it!

''The only thing I have noticed lately and I do find it rather amusing, are sellers who try to charge $40-50 for US domestic shipping. Yeah, there is no 1/200 model you can sell in the US and spend more than $20 to ship...most are going to fall under the $15 range''

Are you sure this is for domestic shipping? If the seller has signed up to the 'eBay Global Shipping Programme' i appears ludicrously expensive. I am selling a few items on eBay and charging only $4 for P&P. But eBay is charging customers $30 if it's an international buyer! I've had so many messages asking me why i'm charging so much for P&P but it's not me!!

Welcome to the forum. You're right about the GSP, but I still use it for my sales because I've been screwed over by Ebay too many times with postage costs using the 'regular' international shipping that they offer. But I have also had US domestic shippers charge quite a bit - I got a resin An124 from someone in California that had to go in a fairly big box, but it was light - shouldn't have been more than $25 or $30 and he wanted to charge $55!

EDIT: it used to be a trick to get around Ebay's final value fees which are a percentage of the selling price, but they got wise and started charging 10% on the shipping cost too. So maybe some sellers still think they don't.
