Nice interesting set of releases. Just got the aeroclassic Delta Fokker so I guess I will pass on this one.

I am very happy that I didn’t bought the overpriced AC F-27 DELTA.

So a much better one, with more details like antennas, will join soon my DELTA fleet.

And also the other releases are top!!!

Definitely will get also the red Green one + of course the AIR BERLIN, which brings nice memories back...

Herpa certainly keep adding to their pre-orders!

The Air France DC-4 looks nice but that tail looks more DC-6 to me. The DC-4 looked shorter and more rounded at the top.
Am interested in their firebomber so may have to get the file out of toolbox.

I believe Herpa have used their F.27-500 longer fuselage tooling for the FH-227. The difference isn’t great on paper but if
you have a look at each model’s side view, the Herpa has 1 cabin window ahead of prop blades whereas the AC/WM has
the 3 as per actual a/c & the extra length of the FH-227 can be appreciated. I see Herpa’s artwork shows the 3 so will be
interesting to see pics of actual model.

Just realised I've become a rivet counter!

You know, I am not a "Classics" collector, but in all honesty, that DC-4 is a nice looking bird - good lines! Might have to get it and grab the hair dryer to watch to props go.

While the other six Herpa releases posted by EC are artwork photos and the other one, I assume is a pre production Air France DC4. The Air France DC4 looks amazing! A great release on Herpa's DC4 tooling

You are right, the trailing edge at the top of the rudder would need to be rounded up a little bit.

I have the excellent KLM DC-4, that's what would be needed to have a correct vertical fin.

I said that this AF model is superb but ...

The rear of the blue cheat line is not symmetric, this detail is correct, it was the early livery when this aircraft was delivered in 1946 with a bare aluminium fuselage...
...but if the national flag as shown on the model looks very nice, it is not compatible with this livery.

The national flag became mandatory much later in 1952 when the F-BELI was attacked by two Mig 15s in the Berlin corridor.
The aircraft landed safely at Berlin on three engines, badly damaged with passengers injured on board.

After this attack without any warning the ICAO decided that for a better identification, all the civil aircraft have to carry the national flag on the fuselage.

Also, in 1952 the blue cheat line at the rear of the fuselage was symmetric.

To make the story short, the national flag must go, the rest of the model looks fine.
Not too late to make this change.

Jean Pierre.

I confirm that F-BBDG is the rego of a DC-4, msn 42939 delivered to AF in June 1946.

Jean-Pierre,

I already have the HM model from some years ago... Should I pass on this one?

I was behind this HM DC-4, I exchanged many emails with William but despite showing evidences he never accepted to reproduce the asymmetric rear blue cheat line which was typical of the delivery scheme on the first aircraft received in 1946.

The other problem was that what was validated one day had to be renegotiated a few days later ...

With its symmetric cheat line and the small AF titles on the fuselage, the HM model is more representative of an intermediate livery, after the first one and before 1956, it only needs the French flag on both sides of the fuselage to have something accurate.
See document.

I will send an email to Herpa asking them to ignore the French flag on their model and the livery will be correct.

As I said, I have the KLM version of the Herpa DC-4, the details are excellent, so I will order the AF version too.

I never order a new model which is inferior to the ones I already have.
The Herpa model is different but it is equally good, too good to be missed.

Is the Herpa model diecast or plastic?

Thanks as always Jean-Pierre for your help. I believe that I will add those french flags with decals to my HM to get that intermediate livery.

If Herpa gives us in the future another livery for this plane such as the later "white top", then I will purchase...

BTW, from which book do you get those livery explanations?

All I know about the AF DC-4s comes from the excellent book written by "[I]Le Trait d'Union" team, a very exhaustive analysis of all the DC-4s and C-54s flown by AF.
53 aircraft with 58 different registrations.

Le Trait d'Union made a similar and fantastic work on most of the aircraft operated by AF.
The guys who wrote these books are true historians.

Coming from the same book, i attach another document showing the liveries after 1956.

Your aircraft pictured at Heathrow shows the intermediate livery after 1956 with large AF titles on the fuselage and ... no name on the nose of the aircraft.
Some aircraft kept their name on the nose, others did not.

The white top appeared on all the aircraft delivered new from 1953, Comet, Viscount, Super Constellation and Bréguet Deux Ponts.
Older aircraft received their white top progressively, some aircraft kept the bare aluminium livery, particularly true on La Postale DC-3s and later the DC-4s.
As you know, there are always exceptions to the rules ...

In any case it is important to work with pictures.

Jean Pierre.

Same thing I thought, herpa's mold is much better then the mold from AC. The DC4 is a beauty too so that will join my fleet aswell.
