Judging by the prices of this model by Gemini and the United Saul Bass B744 (JFox) have gone for on ebay. Both of those will sell quickly.

Great aircraft for a polished release.

The frisbee fairing is the airflow divider below the number 2 engine, basically spliting the airflow to two sides in a manner without creating (too much) additional drag and blends with the airframe. Other (earlier) L-1011's did not have profiled type fairing.

Is that the same identical faring that come out with the -500s?

yes, l-1011-250's came that was from the factory, -50,-150,-385 were designations for older l10's that were retrofitted with newer engines, most of the refits also got the frisbee faring.

Model differences. The Delta here is the Aviation 200 version and the TWA is Inflight.

I was curious as to what the difference was between this newest release and the previous ones by Inflight and Aviation 200 since I already have those. Now I know and can feel comfortable parting with my money for this one.

(I suppose you can never have too many L-1011s!)

A little off topic but considering how costly these models are, im curious as to the composition of these models. Recall the zinc rot of the 1/400 aeroclassics in the early 2000s? I hope that doesnt happen to the variety of 1/200 models made by different mfgs!

This is the 'frisbee fairing' airflow diverter fairing, designed to reduce interior noise levels and smooth the flow of air around the number 2 engine inlet.
This feature is installed on all L-1011-500 models as well as models built after 1980 (ie. any series -1, -100, or -200), the TWA L-1011 fleet were all retrofitted with the frisbee fairing.

This is a quotation from a Airliners.net poster.

And just in case you thought it has anything to do with a flying plastic toy, no, the Frisbee Fairing was named after the Lockheed engineer that designed it - Lloyd Frisbee.

Delta L-1011 is my favorite aircraft of all time so I'm probably going to have to pick this up even though I've got most of the releases already
snowghost and D-AIHB like this.
