Judging by the prices of this model by Gemini and the United Saul Bass B744 (JFox) have gone for on ebay. Both of those will sell quickly.

Great aircraft for a polished release.

The frisbee fairing is the airflow divider below the number 2 engine, basically spliting the airflow to two sides in a manner without creating (too much) additional drag and blends with the airframe. Other (earlier) L-1011's did not have profiled type fairing.

Is that the same identical faring that come out with the -500s?

yes, l-1011-250's came that was from the factory, -50,-150,-385 were designations for older l10's that were retrofitted with newer engines, most of the refits also got the frisbee faring.

Model differences. The Delta here is the Aviation 200 version and the TWA is Inflight.

I was curious as to what the difference was between this newest release and the previous ones by Inflight and Aviation 200 since I already have those. Now I know and can feel comfortable parting with my money for this one.

(I suppose you can never have too many L-1011s!)

A little off topic but considering how costly these models are, im curious as to the composition of these models. Recall the zinc rot of the 1/400 aeroclassics in the early 2000s? I hope that doesnt happen to the variety of 1/200 models made by different mfgs!

This is the 'frisbee fairing' airflow diverter fairing, designed to reduce interior noise levels and smooth the flow of air around the number 2 engine inlet.
This feature is installed on all L-1011-500 models as well as models built after 1980 (ie. any series -1, -100, or -200), the TWA L-1011 fleet were all retrofitted with the frisbee fairing.

This is a quotation from a Airliners.net poster.

And just in case you thought it has anything to do with a flying plastic toy, no, the Frisbee Fairing was named after the Lockheed engineer that designed it - Lloyd Frisbee.

Delta L-1011 is my favorite aircraft of all time so I'm probably going to have to pick this up even though I've got most of the releases already

Don't know the reason, but my retailer has notified me that this model has been cancelled.

My all-time favorite movie. Orsen Welles, Joseph Cotten, and the real star, Alida Valli, with the zither in the background. Spellbinding. You have great taste in movies, Doug

I am not going to start a new thread, and continue on this one, now that I have read N907CL's message.

I also was a bit sad today. I received an email message from AviationMegaStore regarding the Tristar of Delta Airlines, which had been announced by B Models since the end of November (if I remember correctly) last year. "Item discontinued"... Strange expression for an article that never came out. I was looking forward to it for 3 months. Of course, there are worse things in life. And with enough patience I will have one sooner or later, maybe from another brand.

It is however the first time that I am experiencing this. "Item disconinued" messages for watched items that have been available for a long time but are no longer in stock, I have of course received them several times. However, this was an announced model.

I am curious to know if any of you have had similar experiences, and what the cause of this might be.
I have little or no background information of the different brands or scale models. Do you know if B Models can be contacted in any way?

Letter also said "They are however hoping that it will be made at some point in the future". Hopefully it won't be too long or maybe Gemini 200 will make another.

Aviation Megastore has also sent me a notification that this model is discontinued and removed from their store. I have not pre-ordered it, only on my watchlist. But not sure what happened here!

I believe B Models is essentially Inflight minus the licensing so I’m guessing Delta found out and didn’t like it.

According to a Facbook post (take it as you will), the cancellation was due to a licensing issue with Delta.

I pre-ordered this model from EZtoys, and they haven't said anything about this as far as I am aware of? I could be wrong though.

Delta is applying the pressure on dealers who sell models made by manufacturers that do not pay royalties.

Airlines have gone mad with this licensing thing since (I think it was) Singapore Airlines and Qantas (and a few others soon after) started this witch hunt in the mid-1990‘s. It prevents manufacturers of releasing high-quality reproductions of their original aircraft (and some very good advertising for the airline) in favor of a very few $$$ of license fees. However, it’s the companies’ decision, and we just have to cope with the situation.

That being said, I don’t know if this particular model was cancelled due to Delta’s intervention. However, the cancellation of announced models does appear from time to time, even without licensing issues present. Just think of the announced Inflight L-1011 “The Flying Hospital”...

Sad that this model is cancelled... could buy the AV200 for a great price a while back but didn't do it because off the new announced model. The horror!

It’s a shame Delta decided to start caring about licensing now, now that we’ve got the IF 757 and 767, which had so much potential with delta and it’s subsidiaries alone, like we could have had widget, wavy gravy, interim, song, northwest ones, some of the special stickers, all the 767s delta has had, but now nothing, plus it seems like a dumb thing for Delta to worry about right now, like their probably losing a million dollars a day and their biggest concern is a run of 120 L-1011s
